But if the suburbs were to change their zoning laws there wouldn't be any hoops to jump through. And it's to their advantage, the municipality gets a larger tax base for existing areas, with existing services. Even if they would only rezone areas close to existing transit, that still would go a long ways towards mitigating the sprawl on the outer edges of the metro and increasing the density of the inner suburbs. -

A track connection between the G and the L would be nice, eliminating the transfer to get to Manhattan from Greenpoint. Also, a crosstown line under Central Park. -

Great map, but I would change three things: 1: The best way to get subway service to Bayonne is probably to extend the PATH. 2: The current PATH system is extended way too much, a subway to New Brunswick is pretty useless unless it's similar to commuter rail in speed, Elizabeth is as far as I'd take it, but with denser spacing of the stations (I would also add express tracks on PATH). Instead, increase service on the commuter rail. 3: Convert the Newark City Subway to heavy rail and connect it to PATH. -

If it was really the free market that decided what kind of neighborhoods to build, we would have more neighborhoods of the kind gofeedthebears lives in. The reason dense, walkable neighborhoods are so expensive is precisely because people want to live in these areas, that's the reality of supply and demand. The best way to lower that prices in these kinds of neighborhoods is to simply build more real neighborhoods and less sprawl. The demand will be there or the prices wouldn't be so high. And in response to the more traffic argument, transportation in low-density and high-density areas are significantly different. In high-density areas, transit is prevalent whereas in low-density areas, everyone has to drive, they have no other choice. Also, the way to densify the suburbs is not to demolish and build anew, but rather to fill in the gaps in the inner suburbs, eliminating the need to destroy more farmland in the exurbs. -

Thanks, but I was referring to the modded Grand Central that can be used with underground tunnels on page 4 of this thread. (The MMTS Grand Central Station with Underground Connections by smoncrie)

Sorry for bumping the thread, but I was wondering if the Grand Central on page 4 was ever released? I couldn't find it on STEX and I couldn't find any threads on it.

I know about that one and its a great set, but I'm talking about the EMU's (Electrical Multiple Units) which make up the vast majority of the LIRR and Metro North fleets (M1,M3,M7 for LIRR, M1,M2(M1 modified to accept overhead catenary power in addition to third rail),M3,M4(Modified M3) and M7 for Metro North) M1 or M3 (they're pretty similar, so I'm not sure which) M7

This one? They run on the New Haven line and are called M-4 (M-3 with overhead catenary equipment added). They run on third rail power to Pelham, NY and overhead catenary power after that. In addition to the red stripe instead of blue, it has a ConnDOT logo since the New Haven line is owned by ConnDOT but is operated by the MTA.
