Update: Springfield! Eastern Columbia...Freeway and inner city development...

Sunset County now has 13MILLION+ Sims

A growing city brings with it a load of cars! Here is a map to show the main highway routes in and around the city...NOTE, the new cross city tunnel! The blue section is where the freeway ends but the inner ring continues. It was built as a boulevard to make downtown more pedestrian friendly...

    SpringfieldMap.jpg

    Springfield Park at night...

    Springfield3.jpg

More and more highways were getting built. A lot of the sims were getting annoyed that their city was being demolished to make way for big 6 lane motorways! To help the problem, the roads have been sent underground!

    Springfield2.jpg

The tunnel comes to the surface in parts to let cars on/off

    Springfield.jpg

The end of the tunnel has seen a lot of development since opening as it provides a fast route to downtown!

@Benedict My city needs it! lol. Its so busy!

@nathanthemayor Thanks! Im looking to grow it more!

@wwetom1 I love night shots aswell! I just wish the car headlights looked better!

    Update: Springfield subway map!

Springfield is growing a lot! The congestion is very bad in parts! The big dig urban freeways help but more subways are needed!

This map follows the same routes as the in game city, but I have tried to make things looks a bit more curved to make it look more real etc

@nycsc4: I love the map! I used to love in SC3000UK back in the day. It has a lot of good features with plains and mountains! And is also be enough to build several cities at once!

    Update: Farnborough!

The north Columbia city of Farnborough is growing fast. The population is now over 300,000. Congestion is increasing on the roads. The inner ring road has just been completed but has already been used way beyond capacity. The middle ring road (Farnborough Beltway) is currently under construction...

The new interchange on the inner ring road...

Farnborough Beltway tends to dump a lot of cars in the city at a small number of areas, all of which get very busy! This was the worst so a whole new traffic circle interchange has been built.

    Farnborough.jpg

Olympic Boulevard. It is the divide between downtown and the dense residential area...

@ Kusajika Yachiru: Thanks for the comments! The 14+million sims isn't all in Columbia haha. There are several other huge cities near by, Richmond has over 9 Million which is to the west...And yeah my highways are crazy haha, but they are crazy busy!

@9988: I like my golf courses! And lights :)

Wow if that entire metro area existed in RL, it would be like one of the largest by population.

@Kusajika Yachiru: It is a bit of an odd mix! They are nice apartments tho no slums lol

@nathanthemayor: Thats true! A lot of cities in here have a region population of under 1 million but I tend to build pretty fast.

    Update: Development in Farnborough

Farnborough has grown a lot of recent years. The ever expanding subway network is struggling to handle all the people, a large big dig project is taking place to get cars and sims out the city fast without having to demolish as much...

Here you can see some of Farnborough's ring roads. The Inner Ring is just a large avenue but after that comes Farnborough Beltway which was originally at the city limits but construction has since out grown this boundary. Further out is the Cross Link Expressway...

    Farnborough2.jpg

A place for the poor sims...

A new skyscraper in the west...

    Update: Forestlawn...

This is the point that the Richmond and Columbia metro areas are meeting. The once far apart cities are growing size so much that they are meeting together. Forestlawn is one of the best commuter towns ever. Its right in the middle of 2 big cities both with several million sims and good motorway links...

@Kusajika Yachiru: Thanks! It is a nice mix, with all the crazy tall buildings and freeways, but also quiet suburbs

@976: Yeah the region is running pretty well! Some places seem to have bad congestion problems but I'm working on that aswell as expanding. The only problem place I have is Letchworth which seems to suffer from abandoned buildings due to commute time!

Update: Forestlawn - Massive rail lines, suburbs and freeways...

The all new rail line linking to massive cities. It has 12 tracks! There are also a lot of park and ride stations outside of the suburbs...

Update: Hollywoodland, A village troubled by airport expansion! Crazy suburbs!

Sunset County with over 14million sims has many airports. All of which needed huge expansion. The main problem is that they are all in built up areas. The best solution to the problem was to build a whole new airport between Richmond and Columbia to serve both cities, it also has good rail and motorway connections.

...Hollywoodland is a small farming community. Over the last few years it has been turned into more of a commuter suburb as the city around it grown. The small landing strip that once server the village has been demolished, and a whole new 4 terminal 2 runway airport put in its place.

This was not very popular with the resident of Hollywoodland, and many residents have moved out due to the aircraft noise and high pollution...

    Location of the new airport...

    Hollywoodland4.jpg

Hollywoodland before it was blighted by the new airport...

    Hollywoodland3.jpg

    The original small air field...

    Hollywoodland2.jpg

    The new airport...

Many feel that it was built too close to the village. Several houses back right onto the airport and suffer from a lot of noise. Many people protested against its construction. People who's home's have been affected did get financial compensation.
