You can get attacked anywhere on the internet. I had my account here hacked once years ago.

With Facebook, the key is privacy settings. Only let your friends see sensitive information, and only accept a friend request from someone you trust. I know some people love to engage in "my friends list is bigger than yours" sort of nonsense and friend request anyone they can remotely consider themselves connected to. This is unwise, and it reflects negatively on you, not positively.

I don't really use Facebook for a different reason: crossing of things I don't want crossed. See, I like to keep my life compartmentalized. What I do on the internet is separate and different from what I do with my real life friends and family. The real world and the cyber world are distinct from each other, and I don't like seeing them mixed. Thus, I usually prefer not to interact with IRL friends via the internet and I avoid it as much as I can.

I tried to post earlier. I find that compartmentalization is inefficient so I email almost everyone I know personally. I actually have 5 friend lists on facebook. One for family members, one for schoolmates, one for those who I know from my camp/disability resource, one for those with the same disability as me, and one for those that play the same facebook games. Some friends are on multiple lists. Those on none of the lists are people I am unsure how I know them or I forgot to put them in a list. I never put any sensitive information in wall posts. I sometimes post news headlines and put the settings so that these headlines can be viewed by everyone.
