That's weak, Duke. Have fun with that!

Have a safe trip, hittwice, although I've no idea why anyone would ever want to leave Sydney... what a great town!

Well, I'm now over half-way to 10,000 posts!

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Heh. No, I would never make such a comment if it were associated with a particular person. Then it would be very much a private matter.

What that was was a product of a session of letting my mind wander (I have a lot of those). I was running through a rant about silly things people do that serve no functional purpose, and jewelery came up as an item on that list. Then I realized that wedding rings were an exception; they actually do serve a functional purpose. As for why airplane restrooms came up as the thing to compare them to... let's just say my mind can be a strange place.

Actually, I thought restrooms on trains first, but airplanes seemed to make for a better comparison because most people would probably think of that before trains.

    Presenting....

Duke frees his car: a photographic story.

    dscn8092l.jpg

This is the spot in my driveway where my car (and my father's car) will be going.

    dscn8093.jpg

Here is the driveway. It is plowed now; yesterday it was covered in six inches of snow and impassable. We had to leave our cars on the street, and they are visible there in the background. Mine is the one in front.

    dscn8094.jpg

A closer view of the situation my car is in. Not that bad, actually. Snow plow didn't bury it as much as I thought it did.  Getting my car into this position was a slip-sliding adventure, though. In case you didn't notice, I'm parked on the wrong side of the street. That doesn't really matter since this is a quiet street and no one ever parks on it (we all have driveways and garages), but still seems to be poor form. Nonetheless, yesterday when I was parking there were 2-3 inches of fresh wet snow covering the street, and once I was successfully at one curb I was going to settle for it regardless of which curb it was!

    dscn8095u.jpg

The front of my car. Tempting to try to pull out this way since there's less snow to go over, but forward is uphill, and there's still snow under all my wheels. Let's check out the back.

    dscn8098.jpg

More doable, but I shall have to move my father's car first. He got home later after the snow was mostly over (and after the street was plowed), so his car I can just move. No big deal.

    dscn8106.jpg

The next step is clearing the snow off of my car. And, as I soon discover... a lot of ice! (which I blame the snow plow for)  Here I've gotten a patch of the back window cleared.

This video is an attempt to show what I'm up against here.

    dscn8108.jpg

Whew... all clear. Now we have to attempt to move this sucker. Looks like that may actually be doable without any digging. One other hurdle remains, though...

    dscn8103.jpg

I'm parked up against this wall of snow. I had to climb out through the passanger side yesterday afternoon, and I shall have to climb in through the passenger side this morning.

    dscn8109v.jpg

    I'm free! Yay!

    dscn8110k.jpg

    Mission accomplished.

Looks like your next mission Duke, should you choose to accept it, is to get out of the neighborhood now.17.gif

We got some snow a couple of times this week, but nothing to scoff at.

We usually do not receive quite so much snow in any given decade.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

Well, first of all, the picture you posted is of the coupe (2 door) version, mine is a sedan (4 door). But still, yes, there are going to be some stylistic differences. Most noticeably, my car has a huge trunk, the Euro-sedan seems to have almost none. Probably a consequence of the fact that European cars are usually smaller than American cars.

That's nothin. We had snow up to our second story window last week. 6.gif North Dakota in the winter isn't exactly, erm, nice.

@Larks the cars are built to withstand that. As long as you get it running regularly, it should be fine. Of course that's where garages are handy, too.

I just realized that life would be boring as heck without music.

Nah, the paint protects the car. It can tolerate being left covered in snow.

Besides, car bodies these days are made more out of aluminum than steel, so they wouldn't "rust" in the traditional sense anyway.
