All Hallows Eve has become dangerous even for kids these days.  Unwholesome characters have taken to doctoring candy and chocolates with foreign objects, like needles.  I am very much afraid the whole thing should be dropped.quote>

Well, my mother always told me and my sisters not to eat any of our candy until she had a chance to inspect it. Seems like a reasonable policy.

Though, in our case this was also so she could pull out anything containing nuts (two of the three of us are allergic).

When I was a tweener, one of the good tricks on Halloween was to move someone's outhouse back three feet (yes, I lived in the country).  You can imagine the surprise for the guy who fell in the hole.quote>

Heh. Wow, that's evil.

Well at parties kids will get there hands on to beer and alcohol. Which we all know will get you drunk if having enough. Now some idiots after the party think that they are fine enough to drive home, but end up in a crash.

I even know kids who drink, the kids are 14 and 15 years old that go to the parties and get drunk.

Here in Greece we don't have Halloween, so our homes are safe 3.gif . However we have a Halloween-like holiday every February, called "apokries", were kids dress up with costumes. Not necessary scary, usually superheroes, fairies, celebrities, robots e.t.c.. It's very funny and much more safe 1.gif

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

I don't really hate Halloween. I live in a somewhat quiet neighborhood where everyone knows everyone and we all get along. Last year on the night of November 1st there were some sketchy people driving up and down the streets without their headlights on and they eventually parked, got out of the car and started sneaking around. A nice call to the police solved that problem.

We have never had any issues with vandalism on my street or anything, but it happens a lot in some of the cities close by. When I was younger I used to visit my grandparents on Halloween after a was too old to trick or treat. They lived in a decent neighborhood, but it was right next to a not so good one. One Halloween as we were driving home, we had our car egged by people hiding in the bushes.

I try to avoid driving on Halloween night. Between the vandals and all the kids you have to watch out for in the streets, its better to just stay home.

On the plus side, I always thought these two Maiko dressed up as monsters for the Setsubun in Kyoto were just the cutest things:

If only Halloween could be steered to the fun dressup and away from the nihilistic hooligans and drunks.

halloweens great when your a kid [trick or treating] and a teen/young adult [parties] but terrible if your a parent [you have to go trick or treating which seems terrible] or any other older adult [you have to deal with all the nonsense]

I like Halloween well enough. It's nice when you can do the activities, and when you're older it's nice to see younger people having fun doing the activities.

As far as Detroit goes, the Devil's Night of today isn't the Devil's Night of the 80s. There's a large community effort which has kept crime down.

Good to here that about Detroit, Jasoncw.

I have come to really enjoy Halloween myself. C'mon, women looking sexy in their costumes which in turn makes them a little frisky? Bonuuuuuusssss.

It's a great holiday.. mostly for the kids, but as usual USA specifically turns it into an excuse to paaaaarrrrtaaaay.. we're all just big kids anyways.. btw it's also the safest holiday of all of them! in spite of all the silly fears that everyone seems to want to focus on.. bad news day I guess so they all want to do what they can to get folk to watch their news.. work those ratings.. LOL
