Is SimCity 4 Dead?

I just wondered... Now that CXL 2011 is out, and SimCity 4 is pretty much 8 years old, does this mean that it is dead? I mean, how many people actually are still playing it these days?

I do, but my system is old. I don't know whether it works on Windows 7 or not, so until I upgrade my computer, I don't know compatibility issues.

Sim City 4 can Work on Windows 7, I try it so you are ok, Sim City 4 to me is far from Being dead. I do still see the game being sold in stores for about $19.99 with some other Sim City games and everyday there's an upload on ST if theres a time when there are little post and have not seen any new uploads for weeks or months then you can say that Sim City 4 is dead, but for now this game it still going strong.

It is a dying game but it still is a somewhat popular game. It was made in 2003 and most of everyone on Simtropolis plays it (as said by Sgt. Pepper). I actually think CitiesXL is a ripoff of the SimCity series. So I don't ever intend on playing CitiesXL.

I wouldn't say it is dying at all. And yes, I have Windows 7, and it works like a charm. Everyday, there is still a lot of custom content being released, and just now we are finding out more info about SimCity1.dat. To say the game is dying is preposterous.....with SC4, this site would barely be anything.....

many people still play SC4, not only on this site but on many others too, Simmania, SC4D, Simpeg, ect. Just because something is a few years old doesn't mean it is dying, I think that SC4 is a timeless game, if EA was smart though they would release a simcity 5 with all the amenities we want but thier not that smart so... SC4 lives on!

SimCity 4 is not a dead game, but SimCity is a dead series. Let's face it, SimCity 5 is never coming. We may see another cheap gimmicky spinoff or two, but never a true sequel. City building is very much a niche market; there wouldn't be enough money in it for EA to consider it worth it to actually make another full proper game.

Me personally, it's been a few years since I played SC4 or anything like it. I've... outgrown it. Besides, SimCity is a huge time sink, and I just don't have that kind of time to waste anymore.

This game is far from it, and I'm not exaggerating that. If Sim City 4 is still sold on the shelves, it means there's still demand for it. Most PC games today rarely if ever get reshelved after two years on the market.

Also, with how big the modding community is just for this one game, I don't think anyone would let it die.

You could say though that the Sim City franchise is dying. I've played Sim City Societies and it's a nice game if you only want to play a simple, casual, 3D city builder.

but for a dedicated sim city fan, it's a spit in the face.

I just can't stomach making a new terrain and civilization, so basically all 6 regions I made are developed to where I see fit and its boring unless I really lower taxes and let the skyscrapers go crazy.

you must be new or something..because the game is far from being dead (check out the CJ section)...unless you're talking about the 'straight-outta-the-box' vanilla SC4...because that version is dead...at least dead to me...
