Build a Skyscraper

The idea is for each post, you create a floor in a skyscraper, and design it any way you want.

Aside from the normal forum game rules, the only rule is that you can't add a floor that's a roof or otherwise would prevent additions to the skyscraper. Also, remember to number the floor.

Nov 5th, 2010 edit: Adding a new basement floor is also allowed, as is adding to one of the most recent floors.

To start

Ground floor:

An ordinary lobby area, as well as a snack bar.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Well Duke, the fact that British-English and American-English are different, is what's messing us up2.gif

Displacement from ground level British convention American convention
3 story heights above ground "3rd floor" "4th floor"
2 story heights above ground "2nd floor" "3rd floor"
1 story height above ground "1st floor" "2nd floor"
at ground level "Ground floor" "Ground floor" or "1st floor"
...and the Wikipedia article: Link

I don't want to mess it up, so I'll just go on from 7th floor.

8th floor:

Medical clinic and dentist.

I'd have to agree with Ozzi on this one, but since this website is based in Canada we shall use their convention. Just be glad this isn't the Myer Centre in Brisbane - the floors are S, T, A, E, Q, 1, 2, 3 and 4. Named for Sizzler (no longer present), Target, Albert Street, Elizabeth Street, Queen Street, the four floors above Queen Street. Yes, there is street level entrance for three different floors. It's that hilly.

10th storey: Management,

Security and Maintenance.

Office hours 9-5,

Sundays 9-4.

Going up!

I stayed at a 24 floor luxury resort in Toronto for one night a week ago and it went M, 2, 3, 4 etc. In this case M is for Main/Lobby, the only time G is used is when the main floor is not the ground floor (very frequent here because of the hills).

I'll just go with 11th floor.

Indoor mini shopping mall with over 20 boutiques and tiny luxury tourist traps. (Just said the first thing that came to me 3.gif)

24 Large Offices and meeting rooms. I have a picture, may I post it? I made it myself in the style of SimTower (using 32bit color).

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3
