It seems that some people are having problems with the DRM (SecuRom) that is installed with the new CXL2011 download.

It keeps getting better all the time 28.gif

That is why I NEVER buy games on their release dates. I wait a month or two until all the problems are ironed out + the game is cheaper as well.... I'll wait for steam's christmas sale to buy CXL 2011.

yeah, I had a problem with the activation. The freakin site kept telling me I've entered the security code wrong. I even thought one of the other codes is wrong. Turns out you just need persistence - after some 10 tries the generator finally spewed out the necessary code.

P.S. The key you received in your mail with the links is the one you need to enter as 'CD key/Product key/whatever' , despite the weird name 'Multiplayer key'.

Lol! Securom? I thought everyone learnt their lesson about that with The Sims 2 9.gif

Don't forget Spore as well.

If CXL uses SecuROM that is a definite dealbreaker.

and steam is decent, but the automatic updates kill modding for lots of games because you dont get to wait to update your game until your custom content is updated as needed.

I mean its not as bad as SecuROM but is definitly annoying.

Did the original Cities XL have SecuROM? I thought it had Tages. Are you certain that Cities XL 2011 uses SecuROM? I thought that it used Tages.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Oh, well. Guess that I won't be buying this after all. SecuROM has done enough damage to my system already; I'm not going to allow it to install again.

CXL does not use SecuRom. It uses a different system, as Ilikeseatle pointed out. And frankly, I see only one person in this thread who actually had trouble with the activation process. And frankly, "some people" isn't much of a condemnation of a game, since one must factor in user error in at least half of cases. This thread was light when the OP started it and is still light even now.

Incorrect, CIties XL 2011 uses SecuROM. It asks upon first launch to activate it.

Does it suck? Yeah not sure why Sony came up with this crap and I thought we've seen the end of it when EA got hammered over it.

Now Focus Home is going to be next... just a matter of time before some lawyer steps up and pushes them into the ground for it.

Cities XL (2009 or whatever it's called) has something else (NOT SecuROM)

Cities XL 2011 has SecuROM.

That should clear things up ^_^

You can tell individual games not to auto-update in Steam.

Go to your game library, right-click on the game, go to Properties, then go to Updates and change the setting.
