There has to be a Minecraft thread on all forums...

Um, well, I play Minecraft. It has some strange bug right now that prevents the game from saving every now and then, making the building of the medieval city I'm trying to make (Unoriginal, I know :P) very hard. I'll just wait for 1.4, it looks quite promising so far - witches and bats, skulls, wither boss et al, beacons, carrots, potatoes...

I first bought the game during Beta 1.6. I wanted to play the Aether Mod but IndustrialCraft was incompatible because MCForge and ShockAPI are incompatible with each other.

Lately, I have been trying to make custom Norman villages for Millénaire. So far, I was able to rename and change attributes for the core replacement mod for Millenaire to make a custom Gros Bourg.

Optifine helps lag and FPS issues somewhat for me. Otherwise I'd suggest decreasing your graphics or render distance settings. Allocating more RAM for Minecraft might help, since Minecraft is more RAM dependent and less dependent on graphics, if I'm correct.

I have the same problem. The game is laggy and it has low FPS rates on my laptop.

Minecraft won't use any more than about 512MB of RAM, no matter how much you give it. It's also very dependent on the Graphics card. With Occlusion Culling turned off and the draw distance on high, you can be rendering more polygons than your average scene in any modern AAA game.

That is, unless you're running the server, in which case it'll sleaze itself over all of your RAM.

As for overall bad performance, turn the settings down, enable Occlusion Culling if your graphics card supports it (And is fast enough to derive any benefit at all from having it on, Display Adapters like the newer Intel HDs and modern cards with no dedicated memory should benefit), installing Optifine and making sure you have the 64-Bit version of Java installed are the best ways to go.

you should definitely try optifine, this really helps both to tune it up and down.

also, may I ask what your system specs are? because even with increased rendering settings, especially distance, the worst fps I get is at about 10, give or take a few.

And I can put my finger down on the CPU being the bottleneck here (non oc q8300 isn't exactly great) as I sport more than enough ram (8gb) and a very decent graphics card (2gb 560ti)

lol gmt my specs are very similar, anyway im gonna clean up my computer see if that helps; I haven't dusted in months....also i suspect one of my mods is one of the primary sources of lag...and i got optifine too.

dusting is always a great way to keep the system in shape, you won't believe how much dust collects in these boxes.

earlier this year I completely disassembled and dusted my pc for the first time in over a year and good lord I wonder how that thing was able to cool itself at all... the heat exchanger of my water cooler was pretty clogged, same for other parts supposed to be in freeflow air. applied some meshes here and there aswell to at least give some shielding against larger stuff like hairs (my cat has hazardous hair).

and of course keep track of your mods, the wrong mod in the wrong place and a smooth game turns into a slideshow. happened to me very often with other games (mostly bethesda's wellknown titles).

always gotta be picky when it comes to graphical mods, many give you only a slight difference in gameplay experience but really bring your hardware to it's knees. things like 50% fps drop for betterlooking clouds or other stuff you barely appreciate in regular gameplay are something to think about a second and third time...

The Millénaire mod certainly lags Minecraft a lot.

I'm having some Minecraft troubles myself. On the family desktop, Minecraft runs smoothly, even on the highest graphical settings, but after five minutes or so, it causes the computer to crash. It doesn't turn off, but the screen goes black and the only way to fix it is to turn it off. It didn't used to do this; it just started happening recently. I don't know if it is due to one of the recent patches. I think it started doing this around when I updated to 1.3.2, but I could be wrong. Minecraft always worked fine back in 1.8 through 1.0, which is when I used the desktop computer. My dad dusted everything inside the computer and moved it to an area where it could circulate air better, but the computer still crashes after five minutes of running Minecraft. I've tried deleting all traces of Minecraft and re-downloading it, but that did nothing, I tried changing to a 64 bit Java installation, but I still get the "64 bit Java is recommended for far render distance" message. Any ideas of what might be causing the problem and how I can fix it? Thanks.

You must have made a mistake with Java. There was a vulnerability that was not patched until almost a month after publicized so it could be a virus, or worse.

Sorry for the double post.

It's fixed. After all this time of not playing, the solution was as simple as changing the Advanced OpenGL settings. Go figure...

Talking about Java, I just upgraded to Java 7 yesterday. I probably should have done that earlier. Have any of you tried the new snapshot released today?

I didn't know you could combine enchants to get higher tier ones. Now that is a feature I like. Is it possible to get higher than five tier enchants or is five the highest tier you can get by combining enchants? I'd love to have a Efficiency VI pick.

I know Jeb is planning to add higher level enchants on SOME things but I don't know what. for now Efficiency V is the best tier along with Sharpness V and like Power V or something. In creative using the enchants and anvil I got a:

Sharpness V

Fire Aspect II

Looting III

Knockback II

Its like the best possible Sword and i called it the "Sword of Destiny" it probably cost like 150 levels all up too!

GMT: I'm making a stab in the dark here, but I'm guessing it's either the Great Lighthouse or the Hagia Sophia. I'm probably so wrong it's not even funny.

Found this while I was caving in my SSP world:

20121125065350.png

It's a spider dungeon connected to a zombie dungeon. I don't know if that's rare, but I think it's pretty kewl. There are so many dungeons in this world; I've found at least six in a small area. There are a lot of caves, too.

no and no, but still funny.

I I had some progress, not much but the time-consuming devil lies in the details and scaling everything correctly...

EDIT: nevermind the interior of glowstone blocks... couldn't think of anything good yet but wanted to block bats from spawning anyways... and see something in the dark as the shaders I use are really awesome but darkness really means darkness

I might add this is a VERY ambitious project, considering that this is but a tidbit of a tidbit of the final thing...

I wish anvils didnt take damage when being moved. Then I'd be more content to build a comedic anvil dropping machine :P
