Well, I guess I'll let the cat out of the bag. I started modeling the press box for Michigan Stadium about a week ago. I was experimnting with the bat a bit and it just came to be. It's in its infancy so its not worth showing yet. I'm taking this on as my long term project. I've scrapped my plans for Yost for now that I've started this monstrousity. In the mean time, I'm going to continue to model these small commercial restaurants and outlets for fun, they're quick and easy to model. So there you have it. I should be working on Michigan stadium big time within the next week or so.

One of my biggest problems is that I don't know what I'll feel like modeling from one day to the next. To be quite honest, I'm pondering taking up the tire again. I think I figured out a way to make the rim look right and I want to test my theory on that as well. If that goes well I may put Michigan Stadium on the back burner for a little while longer..see my dilema...I change my mind like the weather...

I thought that the 150 WJ looked a bit short. Lookin forward to those updates. Good to see we are having some increased activity in this project lately.

I will get a render and game shot of Comerica up as soon as I can.  In the meantime, now that we have things moveing right along, I think we need a BSP Headquartes building and I whipped one up today.
    /idealbb/files/bsp
Here is the entrance to the parking garage it is  an above(12) and below (8)  ground garage.  Here is a picture of the above ground portion.
    /idealbb/files/bsp
The building consists of 6 entwined buildings (the garage is one of them) with the tallest building being 112 stories high, and it hosts satelite dishes and a radio/cell tower.
    /idealbb/files/bsp
The second tallest building has a helipad and entrance area.
    /idealbb/files/bsp
The 5th and 6th tallest buildings have balcony areas for the people who need to go outside and puff. And the grand entrance is locared in the 6th tallest.  Right above the entranceway is the best part of the building and it is located on the wall of the 5th tallest.
    /idealbb/files/bsp
The building is 324 m (1,224 ft) tall and will take a long time to render due to the fact that it has 430,916 polys.  Let me know what you all think, we need a grand building for this grand project, Barry Sanders deserves nothing less.

I am amazed at how quick some of you can whip out models now!  Looking good Jon.  The main tower, although much taller, kind of reminds me of Cadilac Tower, the building where Barry's image once graced the side!  Do we have to release a building in order to ride the BSP helicopter, or more of a senority thing?  Personally, I think 112 stories is almost too tall, and would rather see it in the 50-80 story range, but that's me.  Either way, I'll use it, I will just have to start Barry City for all these great creations!

BD, I just meant something larger like the Hockeytown Cafe, which I thought you were working on!  I didn't expect to hear about some monstrosity like the big house.  Good luck, I'm sure you'll need it.

Hey guys!  Wow!  Can I put my office on the top floor?  Those are some really cool windows Jon.  It looks like we're moving right along.  There will be a few days where I won't get work done such as yesterday.  I worked 9:00 - 4:00 and then went to the Midland co. fair immediately after that till 12:00.  So I wasn't able to do any work.  If you follow pop radio (which I don't much, I prefer classic rock), Kimberly Locke (american idle) Kevin Lyttle, JoJo, Ryan Cabrera, Petey Pablo, and Tista were all there to perform.  My ears have finally restored their hearing and I feel ready to take on more Ford Field.  I had a huge update to show you guys the other day, but Simtropolis kept crashing and the post thing was malfunctioning.  I'll show you it later today.

    Well, I think I finished.

    /idealbb/files/Star-ray_ford023.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Star-ray_ford052.jpg

Okay, my prank probably didn't work out well this time. These are actually renderings of the stadium courtesy of the University of Utah. I have no idea what is going on in the background or even why they made these. However, I figured this would give people who are not familiar with the stadium a better view of what is going to be built. Obviously, you probably recognize the warehouse portion above I am working on. Although this model is set perfectly to scale (Rossetti probably gave them the damn plans!) it isn't as nearly detailed as the one I'm going to create. Plus, they did not account for the real deviations that I have included so far in my model. (I'm jealous, can't you see? ) Again, for the people who have never seen Ford Field, the stadium dome is actually not transparent, but solid steel. You can thank the city of Detroit for that. I have already begun on the glass wall, and then will move onto the back warehouse portion, which is for some odd reason all gray in the above model.

So the glass atrium, I guess it will work. I thought it wasn't possible, but I began making the glass support structure and it appears to work! Here is a photo below.

    Image to big. 800x600 thanks.

As far as the question whether the warehouse will contain commercial jobs, the answer is Yes! The warehouse in real life is slated for commerical office and retail space, with the remainder to be a hotel. So the overall count on jobs may a bit exaggerated from that of a normal football stadium. I justify my reasons here, if people complain when it is uploaded.

EDIT: Oops! Sorry the perspective is so big!

Man that is looking good wolverine. The curved section is coming out fantastic. Jon, I hope you don't take this as being mean but that tower needs to be shortened like baldy pointed out. I think its a little too tall but just my opinion.

As for updating page 1, it will happen soon and here's why. I figured out how to mod my lots so the ploppables will have jobs. I will also be adding custom icons to the previously released lots. I have yet to master the custom query and such but I'm trying, that may have to wait a bit longer. I'd like to add that as a feature along with a custom sound (of course I want Michigan Stadium's query to play The Victors when it is finished) I may contact someone like SG or EQ for some help on that. I hope to have updates on all my lots here in the next day or so and I will post when they are complete. One more thing, baldy mentioned that the pizza joints were too much as CS$$1 so I'm going to redo them as CS$2or 3. That means I'll be leaving the bat alone for a day or two.

[jaw drops] - picks jaw up and wipes eyes.....  unbelievable wolverine.  The reflections in the curved section of the glass adds so much.  I really want to see more shots!

BD, if you get good at all that stuff, we might be sending our models over to you for the finishing touches!

Actually, those aren't reflections, but the tower showing through.  The glass wall is actually trasparent, so that in the future you will be able to see part of the support structure behind it.  Although, in the renderings, the glass comes out semi-reflective so that some parts of the warehouse can be seen.

Progress Report---Just to let you all know I have got a good hold on basic modding of my lots. Thus far I've only finished one as it has taken me a little while to get all the quirks figured out. The Belle Tire has been updated now so that it includes a ploppable with jobs, a custom icon in the landmark menu, a new sign out front, and to top it all off my lots will be grouped together from here onwards in the landmark menu. I recommend you delete the old Belle Tire file as it will conflict with the new one. It still doesn't have a custom query but I thought this was a good start. I will post when I have updated the other lots so keep your eyes open for them. I should have them all modded fairly quick.

I'm glad you got the hang of that Bud.  I have no idea how to do that stuff.  I'll make sure I remove the Belle Tire and replace it with the new one.

I decided to spice things up a bit with my updates.  The following is two spliced, medium renderings.  You can still see some imperfections in some of the spaces between wall panels not showing up.  However, in the high rendering, SC4, and with textures, they do.  So they are of no concern.  Anyway, Construction Update-atchya!

[uPDATE REMOVED TO REDUCE LOADING TIME.  YOU CAN VIEW THE MOST RECENT UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS THREAD OR ON THE NEXT PAGE]

I think my parents can't wait till I go back to college in a few weeks.  Although one rendering takes about less than a minute, my laptop's exhaust fans kick into high gear sending a nice hissing sound down the hallway and into their room.  Especially most convenient at 2:00 a.m.  Thankfully, I have a single room at college, although my friends are all in the rooms around me, so I think our noise will rival my computer. 19.gif

That is one helluva an update wolverine. That is on par with JT's Olympic stadium as for being the best looking stadiums ever made with the bat. Wonderful work. When it is finished I can help you out with whatever you need, should you need it.

The pizza pack 2 has now been updated so the buildings are CS$2, landmark ploppable with jobs, and have custom icons. As I progress, you will see the icons grouped together in one spot like most batters do. Should anyone want to group theirs with mine as to keep this all together within the game the value for item order I assigned is 0x00000023. I'm not sure if that means anything to you guys but I thought I'd let you know. If you want to know how to mod your lots I can try to help (or even do it if you want), although my knowledge is still limited. You can also refer to SG's thread on it as he has written a very simple, yet very brilliant tutorial on how to do this.

EDIT at 4 something in the morning---Geez I should go to sleep. Anyways the White Castle has been updated as well. Some stats have changed on it as you will see should you check it out. It now has a ploppable with 50 jobs and a custom icon which is a slider (their hamburger for those who don't know what a slider is). Midas is also finished with a landmark ploppable with 35 jobs and a custom icon in the landmark menu. Once again I urge you to delete the old file before downloading the new ones. One more thing, Pizza Party Pack 1 will be modded at some point tomorrow. I will let you know when it is done.

The Dominos and Little Caesars released in Pizza Party Pack 1 are now updated. A fair amount has changed from the original files. I transformed the lots from CS$$1 to CS$2, gave them fewer jobs, made the landmark ploppable with jobs, and gave them both a custom icon. So that is finally it. All of the updates are completed. I can finally get back to the bat....hooray....

These updates are incredible. I can't believe how awesome everything looks. I unfortunately have not got back into the BAT yet. My schedule has just been Cross, Sleep, Wake up-eat, sleep. I still need shots of 1WA so if anyone knows where I can get the roof and base pictures, it will be greatly appreciated.

Well I'm back early and I must say Ford Field is freakin awesome! 3.gif Great job wolverine! That's great that you got the modding skills down bud. I agree with bud and baldy that our HQ should be much shorter. Maybe like a mid rise building or evn just a small two story office that could be very detailed.

EDIT: spidey, do you have a sepaerate account called 007 Spiderman?

EDIT 2: wolverine, do you know somebody else is using your av?

Well, like Spidey, things are just beginning to get hectic.  Work on Ford Field is being done between my daily activities, which doesn't amount to much.  Today I had to go run some errands in Saginaw, then work for 7 hours, and then I went to a party with my old high school buds.  I just got back and I am exhausted.  I will be in Saginaw tomorrow again, but only during the morning.  So I'm hoping to get more work done.  I'd say the glass atrium is going to be the longest portion of the project, as it incorporates some new techniques I've never used in GMax.  Plus, using curved splines is a pain.
As far as this coming week, I work nearly every day until the 27th.  Some days have 8 hour shifts, but most are 4 hour evening ones.  My last day of work is the 27th as I will be in L.A. till the 1st.  I will be back at home on the 2nd packing up all I own to move it all back to U of M on the third.  From the third till the seventh, I don't know what is in store.  I will be meeting back up with my college buddies, and I'm sure we are going to be partying hard before classes start.  So I really can't say how much work I will get done.  So expect some slowdowns in progress.  Things are definitely going to take time.  I had expected to have the entire atrium done earlier this week, but apparently that isn't going to happen until after this weekend.  But don't worry.  My class schedule is less hectic this year, and I did find time to play Rush Hour during my busy freshman year.  The good thing is, I enjoy working on this model.  Despite some of the cumbersome tasks necessary to complete certain parts, I'm still having fun creating something that I hope you will all enjoy.

You should also be seeing some progress on the website.  The current design will be completely removed.  You're probably thinking, why do that? Won't it take more work to build a new website?  Actually, the stie is quite complicated to deal with right now.  It is very high maintenance, and seems to get screwed up when updates are made.  The site will be made simpler, but still kick-ass I hope.  It's time we start putting these already completed projects in a place they deserve.

Now, I need many hours of sleep.

EDIT: I don't mind if they use it.  In fact, I encouraged people to in the Where did you get your avatar thread awhile ago.  I've actually had it before the BSP was started.  I removed it to put up my M-14 avatar, which was later dropped for the Pistons one.

Getting those arcs in the right spots just about killed me. Then playing with the vertices of the cylander that became the hubcap were no fun either. To top it all off rotating the text to get it just right took a fair amount of time. This thing has just been a pain in my you know what but I'm finally progressing on it on like my 4th attempt. I know there are are like 14 arcs in real life but given the limitations of size and getting things to show properly it only has 10. If I put in 14 it would look like crap. I tried and it doesn't look good at all.  Nonetheless, I believe this is a faithful representation of it.

Argh, I feel like my brain is melting. This thing is tedious as hell. So many little nuances with it but I think I finally finished modeling it. I added the base, foundation, and fencing today. The fencing was the hard part, making it then getting it to line up properly. There are 2 quirks with it that I will let you know about.
    1. As I mentioned in my previous post I believe there are 14 cutouts in the rim. Given the reasons above I think 10 is the best route and it shall remain that way.
    2. There is a uniroyal.com text underneath the large UNIROYAL text, however when I previewed it, it came out some blob like I couldn't read it. It will be omiitted for that reason.

Unfortuantely these 2 things are the results of the sizing limitations of SC4 and the BAT itself. Otherwise it would have them included. The only other way I can see to remedy the problem is to oversize the tire. In real life it is 80 feet tall, which equals a radius of 13.5 meters. That is the size limitation I stuck myself with when I started modeling it. I could have made it larger but I did not want it to measure up to a small skyscraper within the game. So that's where it sits as of now, all that is left is texturing which I have begun. One more thing, does anybody know if and where the lights come are on this thing? Is it illuminated from the ground or within the tire itself?

    Here's todays update---

    /idealbb/files/UniRoyal3.jpg

I'm not exactly sure when I'll finish it. I'm done with it for today as I'm heading out to have a few beers. I think I deserve it 44.gif

I agree you can do it in the LE but the problem is getting the exact look I'm going for. For example the lot is rectangular here and trying to get that look perfected with the fencing that is in the LE (which wouldn't have worked for me anyways in thjis instance) is just a pain. I'm just not a huge fan of the LE. Using the bat gives me greater control of the look of both the building I'm creating and the lot base and any custom props I may make. It may take me longer but the end result is what makes me happy. I appreciate the advice but in this instance I was better off doing it in the bat. Besides, I think the fencing I made looks better than any of the default fencing.

That tire looks great Budweiserdude!  I'm glad it wasn't forgotten.  The fence looks great as well.  I think the fences in LE are a pain to mess with.  Your fence should look great in the game.  I look forward to seeing it with textures.

    Another Medium Quality Update-atchya!

This time, the canopy has been added.  It was a b**** to create with all those curved splines, not to mention very time consuming.  It also has the slight slant to it (for draining water in real life) which makes it look shorter in width from an aerial view.
Now,  I just finished the hardest part of the project!
