I got Nortons Internet Security so i think im safe now but I had to reset my compute a bunch and my Gmax dont work anymore. it wont accept my authorization code to start again either. Do any of you know what Turbo Squid is? Its  what they want me to register with at Gmax.

I think the textures are fine baldy but would have to render and look in Sim City to be sure.

Great work on Hudsons Wolverine. i wanted to do that building which is why I started Batting, but I never found enough pictures on the web to get an overall view.

Thanks FS!

For Gmax, you need to register at Turbo Squid now. Doing so can give you access to textures as well. If you have any other problems, let me know.

soooooo has anyone made a realistic detroit? i dont mean to sound pushy but im exited to see one

oh and for some reason when i searched for the BSP bats on the exchange i only got chicken shack, and like bell tire, wich is sweet, but i couldnt find anything else. i think it would be kinda funny if someone made a wallside windows, cus the say they are the factory, but ive never seen a wallside factory. haha. wht evr tho. um question for wolverine; hows the arcitecture department up there in ann arbor? i know its one of the best, but how do YOU feel about it? do you get enough attention? is it somewhat challenging? im just wondering cus i was accepted there and a couple other places and idk if i should go. it would be helpful for some details.(if you happen to have anyfriends in the environmental engineering that would be sweet to hear from them too.) thanks!

Okay, I'm done with the hardest exams, I have 1 left that is really easy, that will be next week. SO I AM IDLE FOR THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS!!!! Well, not quite... I went out with my friends tonight to party
ou.jpg

and get drunk.

All of this was in celebration that I am officially now in U of M's school of architecture, and my two years of pre-architecture have now come to a close.

So my opinion on the school of architecture. I will first say that it is clearly stated by the university as the most time consuming major at the university, and then take into account that U of M is one of the best public universities in the U.S., and well there you have it, a very difficult curriculum. But it's not that bad, you get used to the workload. But what I enjoy most about it, is the friends you make. Everyday of class for me was enjoyable, because you work along side your friends. Our studio class sessions are informal, the instructor walks around and offers help when necessary, and we turn it into a social hour, that somtimes gets out of hand and turns into a party. We listen to music, and eat while we work, but usually talk a lot. Lectures are not too big. There are about 130 people in my history of architecture course. You then have class discussions after that which are made up of 7-14 people, so you do get individual attention. Plus, instructors are more than willing to meet with you outside of class. Alot of the stuff you hear about not getting any attention is a myth. The professors get to know you after awhile. U of M also has a program where if you have a meal out somewhere with a professor, the university will pay for it!

So far, I am enjoying the architecture program at U of M, and couldn't picture myself anywhere else!

If you want to see videos and photos of my classes, I will post a link for you sometime in the future.

As far as a SimCity Detroit, no one has made one, and as far as I know, it is not possible to construct Detroit in SimCity 4 due to the divergence of the city's major thoroughfares.

I wish I had time to go out & party! Haha. I haven't actually slept since Sunday night. I've redone my design project three times now - twice in cardboard & once in wood. One more redo will make it just about perfect. Note to self: next time design a project that can actually be built!

I have a 15 minute presentation to give on Monday. I have to render my floorplans, elevations, site plan, & interior perspective by Tuesday. My final basic design project is due on Monday. I have a calculus exam on Wednesday. I also have one paper to rewrite, and another five page paper to write by the end of next week. That's in addition to a 20 page paper I'm working on right now. The end of the semester is so much fun! LOL.

As I Know that the site is under construction. I was very interseted in the Link entitled Detroit's PAst & Present Interactive Map and was wondering if any of you had that link? Also I love the Idea of a Detroit BAT project and once I figure out how to use that silly thing I plan to attempt one of the famous Detroit Buildings.

The portion with Detroit's past and present was dropped from the website. It could be replaced if someone is willing to take that portion on.

We don't belong on page two.  Now that I'm done with college, and home right now, I'm going to get back to work on the project.  I just have to finish doing some unpacking.

Farminsim, Yeah, I found out that the ID they give you for GMax expires after 30 days and you have to ask for a new one.  If you need the e-mail address, let me know and I can get that for you.  I still owe you some textures when you get back up and running.  Or you could send me the model and I could try to texture it and tweak them as I see fit.  Either way, I'll help out.

Wolverine, glad to hear you're done with classes and you were kicking ass!  I don't know if I mentioned it before, but your models are simply amazing!  It looks like you're really starting to get the hang of using 3ds.  If you need help with textures or texturing, let me know and I will see what I can do help.

BD, I noticed that NDEX (duskt) modeled a building that looks very similar to to main tower of the Ren Cen.  They have been releasing some of the models files to assist people and maybe they we could check if they would let us you get a copy.  Either it could give you ideas to model it more efficiently, or maybe you'd just need to tweek a few things, retexture and add a base to get it to work.  This is of course, with their permission.

Keep the thread a live and we should plan another Tiger's game gathering again.

Lookin nice farminsim. It's hard to know what the back looks like especially since it is shielded by other buildings

As far as Hudsons, I have been moving along on it these past few days. I would post pictures, but I think I'll wait until the entire building is enclosed with windows and the roof.

Here's some updates.

As you can see, I still need to add windows to the Woodward Ave. side of the building. I also need to put floors in for interior lighting reasons.

I'd probably be superhard to layout Detroit streets on SC4, since many of them are at an angle until at least 6 mile. And everyone knows it's almost impossible to build on diagonal streets...

I was thinking about doing Albert Kahns Free Press building, but the only good pictures I've been able to find are from emporis and http://www.freep.com/jobspage/club/321.htm.  Does anyone have any other pictures?

I won't be including the sign ontop, it's tacky 1.gif

I have lots of pictures and since I'll be downtown this weekend giving tours, I can get more if you need it.  I'll try to post some tonight and PM you with a link.  Also, if you'd like, I can make custom textures for you like I did for Farminsim.  I use pictures of the actual building and modify it to fit your model.

Also, my model of 150 west jefferson is still available if anyone wants it.  It needs the top floor, roof, the front entrance needs some work and some little details.  I have lots of pictures and can provide any help.  I will create the textures too.

Sorry, something came up last night and I got tied up in real life, so I wasn't able to get you the pictures.

Wayne State University has a very extensive collection of old photo which can be found here

It might take you some time, but this is the best collection you'll find.
