Make Cities With Me

Anyone wanna make cities inside a region with me?  I can start a city, upload the city files, someone downloads them and starts a city next to mine, reuploads both city files, I download both, etc etc.  Playing this game solo got too boring for me.  I want to play next to a city that someone controls that makes the roads/highways/jobs/demands/etc variable!  I want something new!  I'm tired of playing next to cities where I already know exactly what will happen.

So, anyone up for it?

If you do find someone to do this with, and you both have identical plugins folders, you can't use the STEX to trade files, as we do not allow rendered regions or city tiles on the STEX.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

This would be extremely hard to do. We would have to plan out how many plugins everyone is to have, so that someone doesn't wind up with missing textures or brown boxes. Not to mention there aren't to many places to share files like that, you couldn't do it on the STEX, however places like MediaFire or Sourceforge would work.

So long story short, it isn't as easy as you think. However other sites have collaborative regions you may be able to join.

A simple way to do it would be to list only a few plugins, such as NAM, and run the program through a digital dropbox. You'd have to set rules for certain things such as neighbour connections (roads and rails) and you'd have to make everyone stay in contact with each other.

Managing a thing like this is too complex to keep most people's attention for long.  Why don't you find some local players who wnat to work with you and exchange things on DVD or CD?  Face to face meetings are necessary to keep something this complicated going.  If you all have laptops, you can meet, greet, discuss, and play.

The way to keep your individual interest alive is to use your imagination and assign a different mayor name to each city, then switch personalities as you move from city to city.  This takes a powerful imagination and good self-control, especially if you use names like 'Jack the Ripper', 'Fiorello La Guardia', 'Jason', etc.

I was really just looking for 1-2 people. Vanilla simcity4 since I don't wanna mess with anything and it's really fairly easy. I've done it with my siblings before. Someone plays for a day, gives the other person their city. The other person plays for the next day, gives the first person both cities (Since both will be affected). Then just switch every other day.

Didn't there used to be collaborative regions on this forum? I thought there was a thread a while back that had a number of people who picked specific tiles to work on, and the region was put together afterward. I don't remember the title of the thread though, or how it ended.  May have been quite a few years ago, I'm not sure how far back the forum search goes.

If you don't want to mess with mods or anything, that may make it hard to find people to join, considering not to many people like to play vanilla anymore. Including me. But if you only mean 1 or 2 people, then it might be fairly doable.

You might be thinking of the Three Rivers Regions project or the Grand River Valley. They may have had their early beginnings on Simtropolis but are now on SC4Devotion. And I'm not sure how active they are currently.

Well I just installed NAM so I supposed we'd use that as well.

Been done on numerous occasions over the years.. doesn't often last long because of L O N G region development.. (usually), Problems with plugins synch and updates, and the fact that really there isn't much room in SC4 for "interacting" with others.. most give it up in short time.

It is not a bad idea, it would be nice a region style multiplayer, i think it would be realistic because it's like the cities are, the cities of a region in real world are not controlled by the same mayor, they have its diferences, but in sim world this diferences means plugins diferences that makes the idea becomes hard in my opinion. But if you want to play vanilla game only with nam i wish good luck to find some mates to do it with you, you'll take long to develop this but seem to be cool.

I tend to upload my Plugins folder and Region that I'm working on to my AtomicGamer file and then download it where I'm at.
