City detail lost not appearing in large cities

Hello,

I'm running SimCity 4 (vanilla) on a (fairly new) Windows 7 64-bit OS. Out of the blue, the detail has been missing from my cities on the largest squares. A screenshot is shown here.

Note the medium plaza at right.  When I demolish and rebuild it in the same position, the detail reappears. https://imgur.com/XiQ9j

However, when I reload the city (after saving) the detail is lost again.  This does not occur in the cities on the smaller squares and is not concurrent with any changes to the software, the addition of plug-ins, or with display settings (and I've tried resetting or fiddling with display settings).

I've done a search and I found one thread that looked similar but the issue hadn't been resolved there.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It affects the whole city. The Prop Pox seems fit the description. Is there a cure? (Reading that link...)

I doubt you have prop pox, but it's possible. How large is your city? Is it a large tile or smaller? If it is, no there is no cure.

Prop Pox is rare, but since you mentioned it only occurs only on large city tiles and you are able to replace affected lots until the next time you open a city, it could be a possiblity. You might read through the information on file sizes in the thread and check that to be more sure. And as SC4BOY mentioned, there is no "cure"...

Thank you everyone for your help.

I'm not sure what the "network subfile" is in relation to a city, but the .sc4 file for this city is 8986 KB and another city which has the same problem is 7361 KB.

That said, I don't have any custom content (the game is newly installed), so according to that thread I can't have Prop Pox.

    This city has 280 000 residents (140 000 C and 14 000 I).

And what about the PG resource file tweaking that is mentioned in the related thread over at the sc4d?

Is this a disease of the original SC4 game?  It might be cured by installing Rush Hour.

well, someone at the sc4d tracked it down to a prop file from one of pegs creations (actually 3 or 4 timed props). that's about as far as I got reading the 20something pages thread

Yes, one of the causes of the prop pox is pegs CDK3-OWW2 lots. This is because they replace the original maxis files. More info here:

I had to reinstall my game because of it.

No, this was tested. The original game without any plugins does not develop the pox. Installing the EP1 patch does not cause it either. It seems to be certain timed props in custom content use in cities with huge numbers of props that cause the issue.

And it is not just the Peg file as some have seen the pox before that file was even released. It seems to be caused by certain timed props that just happened to be in that file. They have also been found in others.

More information can be found by reading the first few posts of the thread. And testing is still going on...

My city started suffering from this, and when I read the topic about this, I reliased it occurred shortly after i plopped some of those items...

    I did this:

2- Open the PEG_OWW2_BDK_RESOURCE.DAT file with the ilive Reader, delete the items 11, 12, 13 and 14 (exemplar names R1x1x2_BeachChair_29B2, R1x1x3_PatioChair_290D, R1x2x2_Recliner_2911, and R2x3x2_$$Beachumbrella_2900), and save the file again. The three first props will no longer be time-dependent (the umbrella will still be time-dependent, appearing only during day time). But the lots will work fine. With no Prop Pox.

And..... so far, it looks like it is helping immensly (if anything so I can spend a bit of time and screenshot my work)

testing is still going on... omg.

I got something like prop pox aswell, only in a certain area of a city tile affecting everything, and the peg prop thing didn't help at all.

EDIT: taking a closer look at the picture in #1, what the heck is going on with the traffic automata? at first I thought it's crowed with bikes, but looking even closer it looks like the traffic automata models are incomplete??

That is odd. I haven't noticed it until you said it. I have never seen that happen with anyone before.
