Simcity 4 tips and Tricks
donkey_kong_jack replied to hazo2010's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hey everyone, I'm back with a few more tips and tricks. Place parks! If you want to see those high rises then build lots of parks in your residential area. In an area where you have zoned for $$$ residential, but are only seeing those ugly brown box condo things, place a few parks in the area, advance in time a bit, and watch the high rises grow. Works for me every time!! Also do the same in your Commercial zones, except use plazas. Always remember that water is not the only thing you need to get high wealth, you need to provide your sims with plenty of services too. In one city, right off the bat I zoned for high wealth, built a school, a medical clinic, several parks, a bunch of different transportation options, and water, and got high rises almost right away.(Don't do this though, it cost a fortune. Just an experiment.) I quote this line from the ea games simcity website under the "Getting Skyscrapers" Section: "You need to build your city wider before you can build it taller". This is not nessiscarily (sorry for the spelling) true. I've found that if you force your sims to build up by only zoning a small amount of residential, it works! Try it!! If you are making way more income than paying expenses, lower your taxes. This will greatly increase your demand. A good way to make a lot of income fast is to zone a lot of dirty industry, then set the tax rate to 20% or something like that. The industry doesn't seem to go away, so it's easy money. (Your City Planner might complain a little but who needs him.) Another way to make a lot of money is to do the U-Drive it missions. They will put money into your bank acount, but lower your mayor rating a little bit. DON'T TAKE OUT LOANS!!! Loans are very bad in the long run because they constantly drain money from your bank account. Not Good! This is all. One again, Good Luck! -

I agree 100% with A Nonny Moose about the advisors. Don't follow your advisors advice. They just want you to spend more and more money on services. Also my advice is to plan your traffic routes. I like to place a zone and then surround it with an avenue. Not planning your traffic routes can lead to some major problems later on. e.g. You have to tear down a bunch of houses to build an avenue because a different road is completley overcrowded. This can become very frustrating. Don't follow what Maxis suggests to do in the beggining of the manual. Your city will completely fail. (I've tried what they suggested several times and all of those citys failed.)I suggest using Peg's hydrothermal power plant available on SimPeg. This is because it is inexpensive, produces a fair amount of power and no pollution! One more thing: Don't build dirty industry in a city where you want $$$ residential, there will be so much pollution you will never get your hgh wealth. That is all I have to say. Good Luck everyone! -
Yes simcity runs perfectly fine with a netbook. All the people I've heard of try to do it have been succesful. The only downside is that you need to buy an external disk drive. Mine cost $80 Canadian. You might want to also check this out: www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm

hazo2010:You need to right click on it and hit extract all and follow the wizard. If the file is not extracted, it won't show up in the game. You can tell if the file is not extracted if there is a pic of a zipper on it.

City detail lost not appearing in large cities

Originally posted by: GMT EDIT: taking a closer look at the picture in #1, what the heck is going on with the traffic automata? at first I thought it's crowed with bikes, but looking even closer it looks like the traffic automata models are incomplete?? quote> That is odd. I haven't noticed it until you said it. I have never seen that happen with anyone before. CaptainPi: How much ram does your computer have? If it is low, maybe that is your problem. -
City detail lost not appearing in large cities
donkey_kong_jack replied to CaptainPi's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Originally posted by: GMT well, someone at the sc4d tracked it down to a prop file from one of pegs creations (actually 3 or 4 timed props). that's about as far as I got reading the 20something pages threadquote> Yes, one of the causes of the prop pox is pegs CDK3-OWW2 lots. This is because they replace the original maxis files. More info here: www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php I had to reinstall my game because of it. -
Problem: Industry generates no workers traffic. Is this normal?
donkey_kong_jack replied to Zhim's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
This happens to me too sometimes. Usually it is because the industry is too far away from the residential area. Sometimes it just takes a while for the game to generate the traffic route that the sims are taking to and from work. Try advancing in time a little bit. -
I play simcity on my acer aspire 1 and it runs perfectly fine. Thought I was the only one doing this but I guess not. The only thing that doen't run very good is the lot editor for some strange reason.

Oh, thanks, also whenever I try to do a night time preview of my building, the Gmax crashes. What might be causing this? -
BAT - Troubleshooting & General Discussion
donkey_kong_jack replied to Jasoncw's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Sorry if there is a tutorial or something else for this somewhere but I couldn't find it so I came here. I created a sign for my building and put it on as a bitmap image and everything is fine. Except now I want the sign to light up at night. Is there any way to do this. I am not very experienced with the b.a.t/gmax.(Just started using it) so any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -
Oh sorry, I didn't mean to say prop, I meant to say building. When I try to replace a maxis building with one I created in the BAT, my building always goes down and to the right a little, but when I try to replace the maxis building with another maxis building, it works. So am I doing somethig wrong?

Hey, I am having this weird problem. Every prop I place in the LE doesn't go where I place it, it ends up going down and to the right outside the lot, so I can't build anything with the LE. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it. Thanks.
