Heres an interesting community layout.  Is this reproduceable in SC4?  Is anyone familiar with this design?  I believe this is in Copenhagen,Denmark.

Possibly, if all the houses were made as one model and then put on a big square lot.

This is like, the epitome of auto-centric, and yet there's hardly any parking. I wouldn't move here unless I had a helipad or worked from home. Then again, I just wouldn't move there, period.

Looks like something they would build in Dubai. Its a good idea but the wedges should be bigger because right now it almost looks like row housing in a circle.

I was thinking the same thing, about Dubai.

This really reminds me of Starrdaccy's project, Urbanz Suburban Project. I don't think it was ever released. For details on this project, see Page 17-19 on the thread "Show us your Suburbs" in City-Building Concepts.

If you modelled the cul de sac, the houses, and their gardens, then put it either on a smaller lot, where it would overhang, or on a square lot, then yes.

This somewhat reminds me of the original EPCOT plan. In the plan, the low density houses on the edge were arranged in a flower around a central park. In the middle would have been a peoplemover station that transports them to the city center.

Of course, this design only has cars. 3.gif

I wouldn't dare to say this design is pointless. I seriously think that all people living in one of this subdivisions have more social relations among them; this design seems to be intended to encourage the community feeling. Furthermore, this design solves the parking problem (if everybody has only one car, of course). Everyone can park just in front its house.

I was about to say that, but the circle is however an intersting design, maybe if it could be placed different to use the space better

Reminds me of an old-style railroad roundhouse and turntable. I wouldn't live there because I don't want to live in a railroad roundhouse.

At first you would think there is more community in those areas, but if you look closer, I bet there isn't. The communal space is a parking lot, surrounded by walls/hedges. You can't see any of the houses or their yards, and as a whole that communal area is quite faceless and anonymous. Then there's the open grass areas outside of the community units (and I'm assuming that there are gates that lead from the houses to this area), which might be nice for kids to play in, but as a whole this green space feels like the empty resultant space that it is, and not the proper, well defined and well designed park space that it ought to be.

I think cul de sacs and other spatial arrangements can have a lot of virtue, but this project doesn't, lol

Solid design, as usual besmirched by modern foolish pointlessness. In ye olde times it was a good lighted and patrolled palisade, and ward required sufficiently few magic users to maintain. And yes, cattle was right there, in the center. Build a wall - make them to pay extra for explosives XD
