For me the greatest movie of all time has got to be The Godfather

I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched it, but I never tire of seeing it.

Pacino's performance as the young Michael Corleone becoming the boss of New York's biggest crime family is amazing.

Yes, it is a good performance. However, try Lawrence Olivier in Hamlet, or Leslie Howard in Gone with the Wind, to say nothing of Olivia de Havilland in the same picture. Oscar doesn't always come calling to the best performers.

I would go as far to say that the Oscars very rarely go to the best performances these days.

As with any art though, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Ones view of it should be objective, rather than subjective. I don't need to be told by those in the industry what I should enjoy. I may know nothing about art, but I know what I like.

I do agree with you on Gone With the Wind though, they don't make em like that anymore !

Haven't been here in a while and I haven't been watching many movies either. I did go to the theater a while back to see Red Tails and to be honest, it wasn't that bad. Granted some can argue that the acting, dialogue and side stories are a bit corny but other than that it was a decent movie.

And my response to the new 3 Stooges movie-

The people who are making this have killed the legacy.. Trying to modernize a classic is one thing but to mix it with one of the worst shows on the air kills it altogether. And this is coming from someone who spent part of his childhood watching the films made in the 30's (I'm 16 btw)

Trying to remake the Three Stooges is a sacrilege. Next they'll be remaking Steamboat Willie. Hollywood is creatively bankrupt.

^Agreed. I even see promotions for movies coming to theaters that were made 10+ years ago. So far they have done it to Star Wars: Phantom Menace, They are doing it to Titanic and Lion King plus several others. This isn't a very logical move because these movies have already been seen my millions and the 3d craze is starting to get old fast. Movie makers in Hollywood better re-evaluate their directors and writers soon, people will eventually skip every movie until the cinematic industry falters.

Harry Potter (All of them).

Inception.

Alice on Wonderland.

Valentine's Day.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.

Indiana Jones (Most of them).

Wall E and Up was pretty nice too, won't list them as favorite though.

48 FPS.

The Hobbit Part 1 (and Part 2) were both shot in this higher frame rate. Both are 3D which I find interesting. The short clip shown disturbed a number of critics, but this is new so don't be surprised if you feel uneasy for a while looking at it. Since I am monocular, I hardly affects me at all, I suspect.

Who listens to critics?

how can you make a informed opinion about an unfinished clip of film?

There are two primary reasons that Hollywood dislikes frame rates over 24FPS. The first is appearance. We are so used to seeing everything at 24FPS that anything significantly higher looks unusual. It also doesn't help that soap operas are shot using high FPS values and soap operas are generally regarded as cheap and trashy. The second is costs. One of the side effects of the higher frame rates is better visual quality of the video. However, better video quality means that the teams that build the sets, props, and apply makeup to the cast need to do a significantly better job, because the viewer can now see all the places that corners were cut to save costs.

Who listens to critics?

how can you make a informed opinion about an unfinished clip of film?

Hollywood critics are paid to render opinions on movies. No one ever said that they had to actually watch the movie, and many actually watch less than half of the movies that they review. Creating an opinion about an unfinished clip of film is a walk in the park by comparison.

Many critics fancy themselves as wits. One of the nastiest examples was in the Boston Globe after WW II. I'll never forget it.

"Last night the Boston Symphony played Brahms. Brahms lost."

Opinions are nothing more than suggestions made by people to convince others the pros and cons of whatever subject they are talking about and also state risks involved. People who resort to extreme opinions (ex. Fords are awesome and Chevys are the worst) are either misinformed or ignorant (look at the comments of any given YouTube video).

That being said; opinions are like mouths. Everyone has one and they usually stink.

Inception and Avatar are still my favorites. The three stooges was funny but not that great.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Went to see The Avengers last Sunday, most fun I've had at the movies since Star Wars in '77. People of all ages were in attendance and the theater was packed full for a 12:50PM 3D matinee [$9 admission]. The 3D was pretty decent, especially the Iron Man flying scenes. The 3D was far better than Avatar, the only other RealD 3D film I've seen. The Hulk definitely stole the show, especially that little scene where he gave a certain someone a reality check and then walked away saying the only two words he spoke. Never ever thought I'd see that on screen.

It was pretty darn funny, funnier than a vast majority of comedies in the past several years. It was well worth the ticket price. Also, The Avengers just set a new second weekend gross with another 103M+ bringing it's domestic take to just over 373M in ten days. Insane.

It crossed the billion $$ mark this week. Second fastest to a billion dollars in 19 days, 2 days behind Avatar's record 17 days to cross the billion mark.

Not going to happen since FOX owns the rights to Firefly and they've said time after time there will be no 'reboot' of Firefly. Until that changes, don't hold your breath, you'll end up suffocating before FOX reboots Firefly.
