I have older versions of the NAM May 2010 version, RHW, NWM and NAM Essentials installed in the plug in folder.quote>

Yes, delete all older versions.  They will conflict with the Version 29 installation otherwise, and may be causing some of your issues.

The RHW and NAM files on the STEX will also be getting updated slightly sometime later today.  An old copy of NetworkAddonMod_GroundLightRailxRoad.dat had slipped into the NAM, and on the RHW end, I've fixed the missing preview model texture that had been occurring on a few RHW pieces and gotten the EMIS draggable sharp 90-degree curve working properly now.

The new files are already up on the LEX at SC4D as well.

If you used Cleanitol, you should be good to go!  I really wish more people would use it--it really makes the whole job a lot easier. 4.gif

I Downloaded NAM V29 today. Reading the posts in here I knew to remove the existing version of NAM that I had installed. I did not use the uninstaller. I just moved my folder with all things NAM ( NAM May 2010, NAM Essentials, RHW, and SAM ) to a folder outside of my Plugins folder. Then I installed NAM V29, RHW 4.1, And NWM 1.1 by using the installers that came with the download.  I then moved SAM back into my Plugins folder. Now, every time I try to use SAM, I get immediate CTD. Are there issues with the SAM and NAM V29? Am I going to have to use the uninstallers and completely remove all the NAM files from my computer (new and old) and then reinstall NAM V29? And lastly, how will this effect cities that I have started with NAM May 2010?

The Red Arrow bug is symptomatic of one thing and one thing only--improper installation/the presence of conflicting RUL files in your Plugins.  See NAM FAQ #1.

It took awhile to download it... now I am anxious to try it out.... the DDI, is especially intriguing --- there was a modified one in Tacoma, WA the was built about 10 yrs ago at the intersection of SR 16 at 19th St. en route to the the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, which was notorious back in the day, of constant traffic jams... way to go!

ozdaniel: Clear out any NAM files you have (including any datpacked versions of the NAM - you shouldn't datpack the NAM in the first place) then install the NAM properly. Also, you might run into this issue if you don't have Rush Hour or Deluxe version of the game, though attempting to place any piece will result in CTD (if you get a green arrow in the first place).

I don't know what to put here anymore.

That's a good question. I used to have an older version of NAM, then I updated to version May 2010. Many of my cities were giving me CTD. I had to delete them.

I'm installing this mostly because of the fix on car & passenger ferry. I hope I'll be able to play with all the cities I've done while using NAM May 2010.

You guys do a wonderful job and I'm thankful for it. I can't imagine SC without plugins, specially heavy work like NAM. But it really is complicated if every time we want to update NAM we have to basically start playing the game all over again. I've been working on the same region slowly for ages now. Last NAM update I had to start over 6 cities. Now it would be around 20 cities. I hope not! 3.gif

Don't delete them yet.  I was getting crash to desktop and even video card lock ups where i had to hard down my pc.  I noticed it happened a lot more often in RHW intensive cities.  Turns out I had a rural highway and a real highway folder. Deleted the rural highway folder and now everything is fine.  You probably just have some residual legacy NAM stuff.  Check your plugins with a fine tooth comb.

Thanks longhorn, for the advice.

So I've finished downloading, and even though I forgot to use Cleanitool as recommended on the readme file [if there's one thing I learned working with IT support is that users are idiots, and I'm no exception to the rule], everything worked beautifully.

So here's a message for you guys on the same situation I was in: if your cities have plenty of NAM Version May 2010 stuff, you're good to go with this update. None of my cities crashed so far, and some of them had heaps of NAM stuff. But keep in mind that I don't use yet most of the fancy stuff [RHW, GLR, etc]., so there could be other causes for conflict.

Thanks again for this, guys. Gosh, I can't remember the last time I've placed a C&P Ferry Terminal! I haven't tried the new stuff yet, which seems to be great... But so far the fix for the Ferry terminal is the most exciting feat on this release! [i wonder if the cities that crashed before because of placement of Ferry terminals will no longer crash with this fix].

EXCUSE ME FOR SOUNDING AN IDIOT BUT what is CLEANITOL ? is it an exe file or is it some list of things like a txt file?  will it take away important files I will need & thus crash my game to desktop? Cause I've usually found its better to double up on things even if your pluggin folder is messy than be missing vital pieces because you were into some spring cleaning. Sure I have 4 or the same highways ped tiles & other stuff at the moment so obviously i have too much of stuff but I have the 19 mbs of this new nam surely by pressing it it could replace the old files with the new ones or is that just asking too much simplicity? We are not all gen Y tech savvy people you know. Why doesn't this 19 mbs exe file have a list of things its going to put in & which folder so i can manually go into those folders & remove it myself. Like an anti virus program; I can let the program get rid of the virus or i can go to where i see the short cut is & delete it manually myself because i can see where it is.

Its never a good idea to have duplicate files in your plugins folder. You will have issues, not all of which are visible, but the most common unnoticed effect is game performance.

Clenitol is a program that can find and remove incompatible files (listed in a txt file) and also check if you have the required dependencies for that (also listed in said txt file).

I don't know what to put here anymore.

while a lot of good stuff seems to be in this update, i am having quite a few issues with it. first im seeing a HUGE decrease in performance of the game. i have a pretty good setup and the game has always run smoothly, now it is very choppy. also any city where i had used the alternate street textures (i dont remember what the mod was called, you place a starter peice and the texture changes) no longer has the street, and dragging street where it used to be does nothing. only two bugs ive seen so far, otherwise a good update! thanks!

Cleanitol is exactly that--a program that uses a text document to find old files which will be replaced by newer and/or consolidated ones. The old files are not deleted, however. They are moved and stored in seperate project folders in Cleanitol's location. If you ever need to retrieve something, you are capable of doing that.

I have used Cleanitol since its release and I have never had a problem with it. It is an extremely useful tool.

I'm a new member but have been playing SC4 on and off for a long time.

I recently updated the game with the patch from the official website and discovered the NAM. I downloaded and installed and followed the instructions (a bit unusual for me 4.gif ) but I get a crash that I can replicate every time.

In some cases icons for the NAM items do not show, they have a shotcut not found placeholder. Each time I select one of the new NAM items, the mouse pointer goes red and then the game quits to windows.

My system is Windows Vista.

I have an orginal Sim City 4 (not deluxe or with Rush Hour)

Things I have tried:

Read the FAQ, checked out forums and technical information.

Completely clean install of the game.

Empty Plugins folder (apart from the default backgrounds ).

Unpatched installation.

Patched installation.

Minimum, full and recommended NAM installations.

Along the way my saved cities have gone walkabout so I've even started new cities from scratch.

If there is any help out there it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

That's the crux of your issue right there, unfortunately.  The NAM (and in fact, just about everything available on the STEX and other exchanges) requires SC4 Deluxe or Rush Hour.

NAM 29 seems to work fine so far for me from a gameplay functionality standpoint, but I'm having on-screen rendering issues when I move across the map, it artifacts and some parts of the map stay in view despite moving away from that area. Any ideas? I've tried both hardware and software video modes to no avail.

Sadly, I notice NAM 29 also doesn't support Paeng's parks as they don't render properly (or at all) when placed 15.gif
