As I'm only the little tinker, such thread name is adequate, I think, so welcome to my NYC workshop!

I'll try to put here any progress of my projects. As usually, any comments and suggestions are welcome.

    Currently on the table:

    automata

    NYC ambulances

    090727fdnyems.jpg

    091202nycems.jpg

    100707nycems2.jpg

There is some skins to do left and all flashing / night models.

    NYC MTA subway trains:

    100112r16001.jpg

It's the first of the NYC subway trains serie - if I only will manage the LUA scripts to spawn more than one type of automata. So far there are no night models for any of my R-160 car. I'd like to research how to mount the engine at the end of a train, as well.

    BATs

    MTA Laguardia Bus Depot

    mainz5n13311.jpg

    mainz5e13311.jpg

    mainz5w13311.jpg

    officez5s02.jpg

The main hangar still need some work, especially with windows on the west side. Beside this, there are still some buildings to do from the scratch.

    NYC MTA subway stations mtasubs.jpg

Designed to be part of RTMT (that's why the dimensions aren't exact) - just like the published bus shelter pack. Except of such generic stations, I'd like to make some unique ones (such as Union Square stations) in the future.

Wow this looks great gwail...as far as adding the engine at the end of the R-160..perhaps the clue to doing that lies in studying the way Maxis puts the caboose on the end of every freight train. Maybe you can find the instance that does it and use it to put the engine car at the back of the train...I hope you can find a solution but if not, these will look great regardless. I gave up on my r142 a long time ago...I just can't figure out the whole process but it's great to see your work!

gio10469, that's and idea, I'll try to find out more about the caboose. I do hope you will finish your R-142, it looked very well.

GuerrilaWarfare, afair I've made a "Q" line sign, sorry 2.gif.

Halo1dragon, no, I don't plan to release them, just teasing you 2.gif.

I've decided that it's time to start something more challenging that simply "box modelling". Here are the first results:

    1008191usqw.jpg

There is still many details to do, but the building seems to be "previewable", at last 2.gif. Some details have disappeared, I'll have to texture them carefully, I suppose.

The main problem so far are the buildings dimensions - it doesn't fit to w2w at all, I'll have to make some additional fillers or maybe create a whole quarter (ca. 7 buildings, 10x4 tiles)...

You will need to exaggerate some of the finer details in some cases (depth specifically). Its not MR's fault, it is just that a zoom5 is still very small, making one pixel quite a length when you think about it. The other way is to make the elements contrast with each other so that they are easier to see, but this may be difficult depending on the color/material of the building.

Personally, I think interior modeling and transparent glass is a inefficient way to go about glass. The result of opaque glass with a good bitmap is generally more attractive then transparent glass, especially for small windows like this.

Anyway, yay w2w!!! Nice to see more models from you, lovely progress.

Sure, Paul, already working on it.

Thanks, Todd. I'll have to experiment a bit, still.

Honestly speaking I don't plan to leave the transparent glasses (it's temporary), maybe only on the first floor (and arrange well the Diesel's exposition).

@halo1dragon: No Gwail is never going to release these models 34.gif. It's a shame isn't it?

@Gwail: Nice start on your next project! May I ask what building it is? By the way, are you using 3ds max now or are you still using spreadsheets to make your models?

Nice start on the later one!

Can't wait to see how it will turn out.

Could you think about doing a version of the bus depot without the writings?

While it would be great for someone doing a "NY" cj to have the "bus la guardia depot" with even the MTA logo on one of it's buildings, maybe it would be a good idea to make a version without the writings too, for people who don't want to use it in a "NY recreation" 2.gif.

Well, i can't say that i'm completely disinterested in expressing that suggestion 4.gif....

@halo1dragon - Are are you blind ??? 47.gif How many time's do people have to discuss with you to stop spamming our threads with your useless comments about when someone's going to release!!! It's so stupid and annoying. STOP 7.gif Everyone's tried to be polite and it's obviously not working so can you please just...shut up.

    Thank you in advance.1.gif

I don't hate you or anything, cause I want to know when they're going to be released as well ... but please keep it to yourself. That's the most polite way I can put this.

gio10469, all presented models are still "hand-made" (plus one bus model waiting on the siding for textures), but I'll try to get the another vehicles 3d modelled with acceptable poly count.

Francis, I think I'll be able to make a "generic" version of the bus depot, why not.

halo1dragon, you just must be patient, my friend. The proper time shall come, some day 2.gif.

A small update meanwhile, perhaps? It's 1 Union Square West, called Lincoln Building, sometimes.

No bodies spoken here in such a long time, and i think all the work here is marvelous, but only thing that strikes me is that R-160's Subway Car has Graffiti on it. I live in Queens, and I haven't seen any Graffiti ridden subway trains in the past 10 years, any of which that have graffiti on it are taken off the system, and especially the brand new R-160's that have only been in use for about 5 years, it wouldn't be very Realistic to have graffiti on the train.

I recommend you make some older series Subway Trains for players who are making a NYC before 9/11, and add the graffiti on those trains, since it would be most fitting since this was NYC's more crime affiliated era.

But nonetheless, I REALLY want to know when you're planning on releasing these, it's been showcased for about a year now 15.gif

GW, thanks for the tip, I'll consider that. Surely, I plan to add some older trains as well, if I only learn how to do that - it isn't so simple as adding another bus, it needs to create brand new LUA script.

I can't set even approx. date of release, as my free time varies a lot - last year was really busy (new living place, new job, another baby coming within next two weeks), so I'm glad I can spare 4-5 hrs a week this year. And I spend it finishing the RMIP 3.1 project, first.

Btw, I just stumbled upon that stunning bus depot again, and I thought that it might also work rather well as industrial building - minus the lettering, of course. Anyway, I hope that RL is going well for you and your family. :)

@Guerila Warfare: NYC Subway trains, particularly the r-142s, r-143s, and r-160s have a total of 4 engines per train. I'm not sure about the r-143s and r-160s but I know that the r-142s are coupled as such [engine][car][car][car][engine]--[engine][car][car][car][engine]...though its most likely impossible to have all four engines...having two engines, one in the back and one in the front adds to the realism of the actual trains.

How is 1 Union Square W? Are you still trying to get that whole block done? I can still do that other building if you'd like me to.
