jacqulina - Glad you like the fire station.  I hope you've found a good home for it in one of your cities.

This will be my last post until after christmas, so I'll take the opportunity to wish you all a very happy christmas and will leave you with a progress shot of the Bradford w2w corner set ...

This looks interesting! great detailing on the stone corner building. Will it be a bank?

The fire station looks very nice! The corner building looks very realstic and nicely built.

Your highstreet shop, the square one looks great, and it just featured in the latest update of my CJ! Keep at it! We need more buildings like the beautiful ones you are developing!

gascooker - the stone corner building is the offices of the 'North British Housing Group' in real life (probably to be the 'Northern Housing Group' when it appears in-game); I'd guess they're either a housing association or a quango.  You're right about it looking like a bank though, I could imagine it with a NatWest logo on.

chocolatemax - I'm glad you like the look of some of my buildings and I'm always pleased to see how other people are using them.  It's also good to see my stuff cropping up in a high profile CJ like Green Depra.

Here's the latest on the w2w corner set.  The shops in the ground floor are probably going to be a cafe and a deli - each with a canopy above the window.  I'm also still debating about what to do with the roof of the taller building - whether to leave it flat or add a shallow pitched roof with galvanised panels similar to many of the existing w2w buildings.

Looking good, rp, and these will fit in very well with GC's too.

barby - I don't know how well this will work with GC's shops; it may be too tall to sit comfortably with his market town style buildings.  I'll have to see when I get it into the Lot Editor and can see it alongside the taller buildings in GCs set.

wallasey - This is an experiment to see whether I can make a decent job of more decorative buildings.  If it works out OK then Bradford and Leeds are both in line to have some buildings brought into the game.

I've now added the third building so all the basics are now in place.  There's various things to tidy up that I've left as the buildings were put together.  I've also got to do the final detailing (downpipes, interior details etc.) and of course there's lighting to do.

At the moment it's looking like this:

cjah, wallasey, 6underground - Thanks for the new year wishes.

As Jo is a pro has said in his/her first post the corner set is now on the STEX.  Here's a street level render ... don't look too closely though you'll see all the shortcuts I've been able to take because of the scale and angle in SC4 43.gif

its not cheating to use shortcuts at all RP - in fact its sensible. Whats the point of rendering hairline cracks in a plaster wall if the entire wall ends up only 4 pixels wide. Looks about the same level of detail on my stuff. BTW - they look fabulous in game.1.gif

gascooker - I don't consider it cheating, but looking at the buildings rendered at that scale does show up things like overscaling brick textures or leaving a shop empty because the awning blocks it at the game angle.  Thanks for the comment on the look of the corner set in-game - for a first try at more classical architecture they came out far better than I was expecting.  So more will follow.

cammo2003 - I've run out of e-mail addresses to validate additional users, so the name won't be changing this year ... unless a mod can change my display name to rp2006 for me 42.gif

The next building is another one from Bradford.  This time I've kept the real occupant which is the Britannia Building Society.  This isn't too far away from release - the actual shop area needs fitting out and lighting and I've some work to do on the back of the building, but I'd expect to release it within the next couple of days.

Love your british houses, maybe a bit more details in the shop windows or another texture. Looks a bit... blue.

Yeah, they're blue because there's a blue floor and nothing in the shop yet - I'm working on it 19.gif

Here's a shot from the in-game test - I've really only got detailing and lighting to do now.

The main doorway (under the red sign) needs something to give it more definition, and I've not decided what should go in the little unit accessed by the door at the front right  - I was thinking a sandwich shop would fit  (IRL it's empty).

Sorry you can't see it previewed with GC's stuff - for some reason they won't grow for me at the moment.

looks like it should fit into city centres beautifully. Any plans to separate the buildings from your last corner BAT to make individual lots?

Odd from Sweden  - As I'm sure you know from doing your excellent Berlin buildings it's the everyday buildings that really give a city it's sense of place.  Corporate towers are so international they can be anywhere - you need the smaller commercial and residential buildings to tell you where in the world you actually are.

EnigmaticUK - Because of the size in relation to the SC4 tile width none of the buildings in the corner set can be released individually, but I am going to release in-line versions of the tall building and the bar once I've created suitable filler buildings to make up the tile width.

Wow, these shops all look really good - along with GC's Georgewardian shops, Ill_Tonkso's contemporary ones and my Postwar ones, we'll almost have a complete set of UK shops!

GaryReggae -  There's still plenty of scope for more variety, so there's more to come ...

But for now, the latest is now on the STEX

Wonderful the amount of small details you are putting into your BATs. I also like the fact that the latest buildings are so nicely textured, it is all very tastful and quite subtle.

I'm someone who plays the game at the slowest speed and spends a lot of time looking at the city at zoom 5, so I tend to notice little details on other people's buildings.  When you do that it tends to encourage you to add little things to your model for other people to notice.

The comments on the textures are especially pleasing for me as it's something I find really difficult.

I've decided that I like the way the Britannia building looks when it grows in rows, so I'm going to create some variants with different shops in.  But before I do that I need to finish this 2x2 corner building which is the latest in the Bradford set ...

These look really good and I like the way that they blend in with the others. The new corner shop should tie of the set nicely. Well done!
