Being portuguese I look up to portuguese and spanish cities as an inspiration. for example I use a suburban system of my main island that is pretty similar to Lisbon.

This is because I prefer the mix of urbanism and classicism instead of tall glass buildings but that is actually a personal choice so if you prefer modern american-european styled buildings, build them... I have nothing against it and I apreciate them in another cities 3.gif

Mineral Wells is a fast growing rural community with 18000 residents and tons of traffic. That is exactly how my cities wind up as.

I only use parts of cities and regions in SimCity:

- My home city Zoetermeer has its main roads (in SimCity we refer them as avenues) layed out quite freely: No buildings are facing the road (their entrance is at another road), only main access roads intersect them (so there are no street connections) and they are usually surrounded by trees. This concept I use quite often in my fictional SC4 country Imaginia, especially in the city Guilliano.

- There are quite some dutch aspects in my cities: the wellknown dutch canal homes, canals (not so very often used) and a quite dense building style. Also, one half of my region is flat, just like the Netherlands. Other aspects are in my motorway system, like long acceleration/decelleration lanes and catenary lights.

- There's also some Belgian influence in my region. A large part of my motorway system is lit by Belgian styled motorway lights. In fact, it's also typically Belgian to light a very large part of your road system, which I do in Imaginia. There are more stretches of road with lights than without.

- Finally, my own designed signage system contains Dutch, Belgian and German elements.

Best,

Maarten

My current region is greater sydney. I am keeping the suburbs in their proper locations but vastly changing the transport layout. I also tend to get influenced by American cities than European or Asian cities but none in particular that i can think of.

Being from New England, I use a lot of cities aroud me for influence. I like to use the old industrial cities like Lowell and Fall River for influence on my industrial cities and I often use Boston, Worcester, and Providence as ideas for larger cities. I have also used inspiration from cities like L.A. and Miami.
