    Woah, page 2 all ready?

    Replies

DCMetro34- Hey thanks! I hope to see you and more people comment here. The Marrast Embankments work really well with the water mod I'm using.

wwetom1- Thank you! I did what I could do with Irfanview on that. 29.gif

And now for another short update(like the previous ones).

    currentfinancial.jpg

A current view of Branhattan's Central Business District(Financial District), with some new skyline editions and much editing. You can see many famous buildings and areas here. Like the City Hall Park, which now has a large light brown and orange, luxury apartment building built in front of it as a result of residential demand and investers buying and demolishing old buildings.  Also in this photo, there is 5 Buildings that participated in Branhattan's very long Race for the Tallest Building. Can you pick them out?

And while we are in the Financial District(I think I'm going to start calling it the Central Business District)-

    wtcroof.jpg

On a early morning day in Branhattan, a few citizens enjoy breath-taking views of Branhattan on the observation deck at the WTC. To the south, they can see far beyond the Watergate District, towards the city of Hudson and beyond. To the north, they can see much more of the City of Branhattan towards North Branhattan. To the east, they see the eastern part of Branhattan as well as the mid and high rise urban areas in Branhattan's Metropolitan Area towards parts of Prosperous's Coasts and Coastal Ports. To the West, Joisy City is in full view from its small Downtown of a few highrise buildings towards more suburban areas.

And the last pic of this once again short update-

    apartmentsnight.jpg

A close up night view on some of Branhattan's Housing Projects, which mix with the older structures.

That's all for this update, but next time, we will see a longer more detailed update, of consisting of Branhattan's Race for the Tallest Building from where it began to where it ended.

Thanks, and you get to see it today.

crushedcar- Thank you and yes, very dense. I always like looking at the dense areas myself. 4.gif

Aaron Graham- Indeed, demand for most things randomly goes high frequently, might be the other city connections but I'm glad how its coming out.

Schulmanator- You really think so? Thank you very much!

DCMetro34- Thank you! I'm glad you like the realism.

Chuck NorrisSirron Kcuhc- The population currently is about 1,118,000. The main area of Branhattan is almost a million, while the other cities add the extra 200,000 or about 100,000. Thanks for stopping by!

    UPDATE

A Branhattan city history lesson with several intresting pics. Today you will learn about some of the participants in Branhattan's big Race for the Tallest.

Locals refer to it as the "Race for the Tallest", even though it is more like several races in different time lapses. It all started when the idea of Skyscrapers was first introduced. The idea for the "Tallest Building" crossed the minds of many business owners, architects, and construction companies. The race lasted a very long time, and their were even "mini" races for the third tallest and so on. Just about all the buildings that participated in this race, even at the begining, are considered city landmarks and are still standing to this day. It all began in the early 1900s....

    oldphoto.jpg

Here is where it all began folks, that triangular building with the slight pyramid roof. Formally known as the Branhattan Publishing Building. The base once was occupied by a department store, while the publishing company occupied the other floors. It currently stands as the Casino Club Building, since the original owner's no longer operate there. It was built in the very early 1900s at the same time with another building, which surpassed it. This building held record for Branhattan's tallest building only for a short month, before being surpassed by the Prosperous Steel Building on the same block. In this late 20's photograph, you can see citizens lined up at the windows waiting for the building to open. The store on the bottom floor was more popular.

    forties1.jpg

In this photograph, years after its completion, you can see the former Prosperous Steel Building standing tall. It is wall to wall with a local fire station, which was wall to wall with the Branhattan Publishing Building. The Steel Building surpassed the Publishing Building's 7 storeys with its 15 stories. It remained Branhattan's tallest for 5 years.

    smittytower.jpg

Here, you can see the building that surpassed the Prosperous Steel Building, the Smitty Tower. It stands tall with it's triagular spire. It managed to be completed first, before many other skyscrapers rising to hold title for Branhattan's tallest for a short time. Half a month later, the building was surpassed by many other slightly taller buildings. This race was being barely won yet victory was yet to come. The small towers that surpassed this one, were soon eclipsed by another tower.

    branhattantribune.jpg

The Branhattan Tribune Tower was Branhattan's tallest for probably the shortest amount of time in the race. It held it's once proud title for only 2 Weeks. It was famous for the Branhattan Tribune operating in this building. However, the newspaper company moved out in the 60s for a more modern building. Leaving it open for rentable office space.

    late30s1.jpg

In this late 30's photograph, you can see the tower that surpassed Branhattan Tribune Tower ver quickly since they were built about at the same time. The Neo-Gothic and ornamented Spoolworth Building held record for Branhattan's Tallest for about 20 years. It has been about 10 years since the construction of the earliest tallest buildings when construction for this cathedral of commerce construction began. It is currently one of Branhattan's most Historic Buildings. No other building rose to challenge it...yet.

    goldenbanktower.jpg

Local residents were astonished as the Golden Bank Building was completed. Most skyscrapers at the time since the Spoolworth's completion were much much shorter. The Golden Bank was a tall and big tower, however, what really astonished local residents was the fact that this building was shorter than the Spoolworth Building. This gave residents hope that this silly race for the tallest building was over and that the sunlight would be blocked by any more massive(considered massive at the time) buildings. However, shortly after, they were very wrong.

    lindbuilding.jpg

The Lind Entertainment Building was half way up when the Golden Bank Building was completed, as well as another tall tower near by. The Lind building surpassed the Spoolworth Building but only held record for Branhattan's tallest for a month. grelson.jpg

The Grelson Building was fully completed a month after the completion of the Lind Building. It surpassed the Lind Building, but only held the tallest record for only 2 months before the next candidate took it's place.

    bankofbranhattan.jpg

The 70 Story Bank of Branhattan Building surpassed all the competition and stood tall in Downtown with the Spoolworth and Golden Bank Buildings. For a year and a half, it held record for Branhattan's Tallest. It stood with the other triangular roofed buildings.

    prosperouscitiescivic.jpg

This tower was barely starting construction before the Bank of Branhattan Building's completion. The Prosperous Cities' Civic Tower surpassed all oponents at the time and it's mighty spire eclipsed the Bank of Branhattan. It is currently one of the tallest buildings in the Central Business District. It held its record for a year.

    chrystalbuilding.jpg

The Chrystal Building was completed shortly after the Civics Tower and was one of Branhattan's most Distinctive Buildings. Built by Walter P. Chrystal for his company, it became one of the city's and nation's most famous buildings. However, this building, like many other towers before it, didn't hold it's title for long. Only 2 years.

    empireprovince.jpg

The Empire Province Building became the city's and nation's tallest building to ever be built. It casted a large shadow on the city, and became an icon. It was imidiately given Landmark Status, and so did the Chrystal Building shortly after. It then opened an view platform on its roof near the spire to view the city which dazzled and amazed the citizens of the entire nation of Prosperous. For about 40 years, nothing rose to challenge it or take its place. It was considered the "winner" of this seem to never end race.

During the years after the Province State Building's completion, "mini" races occured for buildings to be at least under the top 5 or top 10 tallest buildings. There weren't many buildings in this race, and some were considered part of the race since they were tall, though the builders say they built it for enough space and size rather than to just have a tall building. One architect commented before "...really, I wish a really tall pole would have ended the race..."

How ever, in the early 60s, two towers began construction that would take away the Empire Province Building's long lasting title. The Twin Towers of Branhattan's World Trade Center, greatly surpassed the Empire Province Building after their completion in the 70s. The architect was not from the city, and actually never heard of the race for the tallest. However, the buildings claimed the right for the tallest buildings, and continue to hold the title to his day. They quickly became famous buildings and city icons.

    thewtc.jpg

You can see the towers in this current night view of the city.

And that concludes this update. Keep an eye out for more.

A small update for today, of one of Branhattan's parks that has completely been redone.

    6z8y3c.jpg

Branhattan City Park, one of the largest parks in the city. The area consists of a few ponds and many trees. It also has a zoo, and a large golf course.

    fymofs.jpg

A close up view of the park, surrounded by urban areas. It's known for it's wonderful sights, sounds, and even...natural smells... It's one of the only areas in the city where someone can go fishing without driving hours out of Branhattan.

Well, that concludes tonight's update. Short huh? More to come soon!

Thanks! It is very tranquil indeed, the only place there in the city to really relax and breath fresh air! 9.gif

    GuerrilaWarfare- I sure am! 3.gif

gio10469- Thanks for the comment and for stopping by!

wwetom1- Thank you! I unlocked those rewards and needed to put them some where, and Branhattan City Park was the place. 4.gif

De Ja Vu- Thank you so much! 9.gif

    Schulmanator- Thanks!

For this update, I decided to show North Branhattan. This area is filled with housing projects, and is another urban part of Branhattan, though the height of the buildings there don't compare to the heights of the buildings towards the south. Here's a pic-

    castirons.jpg

In the neighborhood, Requares, we see some old Cast Iron Lofts surrounded by modern apartments. Most of these cast iron structures ended up being demolished for more modern housing, however, most were saved as they gave character to such a vast neighborhood.

    replacingrowhomes.jpg

In a less high rise area in North Branhattan, many row homes are demolised and replaced with modern condos. Here, you can see some of the row homes left mixed with the modern structures. Some more modern buildings are being built, seen in the upper left corner of this photo.

    smallerprojects.jpg

Some mid-rise apartments stick out behind these wall to wall comercial apartments.

    largehousingproject.jpg

Lastly, one of the much more larger projects are seen here. Ah, I love seasonal photos, especially the fall...9.gif

That concludes this update. More to come soon!

I very much like the run down feeling of those wall-to-wall buildings. It's easy to build a shiny and spotless city, but to build something gritty... it's actually harder than it sounds. Great work!

On a side note: I agree with wwetom1 about the palms. There's a no-palms-mod-thingy right here, if you're interested.

    Aaron Graham- Hey thanks!

wwetom1- Yea those Palms can be very annoying. I tried looking for some street tree mod before.

MayorAwesome- Thank you very much! And you can get Marrast's Embankments on the STEX here- https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=16655 Or you can search on the LEX at SC4Devotion For them.

Mayorm- Thanks, urban renewal as been happening quite a bit North and South of Branhattan.

Biriali- Thanks! I work hard getting the buildings they way I want. It's hard to get the W2W ones to grow like that. And thanks for the link for that mod! It works great and looks perfect for Branhattan. 9.gif Many thanks.

    UPDATE

A small update for ya'll today, showing South Branhattan, where part of the Central Business District is and also the Watergate District, as well as Fortress Park.

    fortressparkoverview.jpg

An overview of the Fortress Park currently. Where the old fort and a church reside, in front of the urban landscape. You can see the famous clash of old and modern architecture in this area.

    shipunderwatergate.jpg

This one was just for fun. A freight ship under the Watergate Bridge which left one of Branhattan's ports and is heading towards the ocean.

    urbanarea.jpg

Lastly for this update, part of the Central Business District of Branhattan(cut off by the city tiles) close to the Watergate District.

And that concludes today's update. Comments and suggestions welcome!

The Distinctive skyline buildings of Branhattan are visible from here as well, the World Trade Center, Empire Province Building, Chrystal Building, Bank of Branhattan, Cities' Civic Tower, and more. Stay tuned for the next update.10.gif
