Link to National Resources Canada Earthquake Centre.

This was quite a bit north of Ottawa in the Canadian Shield.  Apparently there is a fault line there, but quakes of M 5 occur only about once a decade.

Interesting that this link was on the USGS site.

It wasn't felt in Huron county according to my sources.  I certainly did not notice it, and I've been awake all day.

Expect a big one in California soon.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

ITs obvious not everyone in the area felt it, however according to the USGS- the fault line in that area runs NW to SE- its not unheard of to have an occasional 6.0, that last one at that magnitude that caused significant damage was 1732, most recently in 1935. the shake map also revealed the quake was relatively "shallow" 12 miles deep below the surface, reports came from as far away as north Florida.

I felt it here in New Haven, CT. I was sitting at a traffic light waiting for the little green left turn arrow when it felt really weird that my truck was tipping back and forth side to side just ever so slightly. Very odd sensation indeed. I thought maybe I should stop smoking that damn LSD.

Believe in only what you can prove.

And just to add insult to injury, there was a tornado in Midland, Ontario the same day.  Midland is well within the bump of the quake.

Hmm... I was out biking around that time and I didn't feel a thing. Either Western Massachusetts was out of the way or my attention span is really that bad.

We never have natural disasters, I think I'd remember something like that.

I felt it during my exams, at first I thought it was just somebody furiously erasing something but the entire class felt it.

Second thought was a Tripod. Yes, I did watch War of the Worlds before going to my exam...3.gif

Whoever that guy is from the NDP (it was not Jack Layton) would have died if the quake had been M7 or M8.  He was more interested in gathering up his papers than evacuating the building.

Gives you an idea of the kind of people Layton has.  They are either very brave or damned fools.

It's a fine line.  I cross it all the time, much to my chagrin.

Yes, but did you ever regret it to the tune of being injured?

The local news here in Pittsburgh is continuing to make a big deal of this. Yet another reminder of how much I despise local news. I'm sure they're working on a story right now about how the quake effected some of the Steelers.

DATELINE! - Hines Ward's cookout disrupted by moderate shaking 600 miles away! Tongs dropped on patio.

Something like that.

I was in the middle of rushing around the house so I wasn't paying attention to even notice the shaking. My mother at work though saw the lights shaking and flickering a bit.
