Very nice looking. It'll be even better with a locomotive that matches the cars color scheme.

Wow, praise from Caesar.  50.gif  Thanks!

That coach was just a temporary measure -  I'm finally getting a handle on how to stretch the cars, move the wheels, move the inter-car cowlings, and so on.  Right now, I'm making new trucks. Then back to getting the stainless steel to look right (very hard!) and it's on to the lounge car.

Amtrak never had a locomotive to match the Superliners, did they?  Probably the Pepsi Can scheme was the closest, but they didn't have very many of those.  In the West, all I've seen is the blue/gray scheme on GE P42s for some time now.  That's what was pulling the California Zephyrs I rode last week.

If I get stuck, I'll probably throw some New Jersey Transit paint on your River Haven coach as a stopgap - the NJT fans have been waiting too long.

Here's a more complete Superliner set.
    /idealbb/files/ingame11.JPG

There are a total of nine cars, each with its own night-lighting and number.  Car numbers are taken from real Amtrak cars.

The archive is split into two parts for size reasons.  Part one (attached) contains a reworked original-replacement coach car, and a set of extra short-distance/commuter cars containing three coaches and a snack/lounge car.  That's a total of five cars, four coaches and a lounge.

    /idealbb/files/SuperlinerCoach1.JPG
    /idealbb/files/SuperlinerLoungeCar.JPG

As usual, each extra car has its own unique ID that should not conflict with any other of my cars, so you can mix them my other sets if you want to.   [Note that Superliners have higher doors than usual, and will only line up properly with the Amtrak California car.]

    Part one attached.

Here's part 2.  It contains cars for long-distance trains.  There are two sleeper cars, a diner, and a coach/baggage car.

    /idealbb/files/SuperlinerDiningCar.JPG

You can use Trolca's Amtrak locomotives from his Train Set (it's in the Mods section) until I get some GE P42 Genesis ones built.

    Enjoy!

Simply amazing. Goes perfect with my new NorCal-ish region. I might be starting a CJ with it soon, after I feel confident in how a few cities look. I'm only working on a small suburb town now.

Here are a couple of Amtrak Genesis locomotives to go with the Superliners.  There are two of each in the set, one original replacement, and one extra.   These go in the Maxis/SC4/Plugins folder, you know the drill.

    /idealbb/files/GenesisLocoP4.JPG
    /idealbb/files/GenesisLocoP5.JPG

Between Trolca's Train Set and mine, there should be a total of four distinct Amtrak units out there now.  You can use mine and Trolca's at the same time if you want to.  Only one original at a time, though.

While I'm at it, I noticed that I had used incorrect window and door placement on the bottom deck of the Superliner Sightseer Lounge car.

Here's the fix.  Let it overwrite the old file - the file dates are your guide.

To everyone who's responded, thanks for the kind words - I've been too busy making new stuff to respond in a timely manner.

Amtrak can't run Superliners in the NorthEast Corridor, as the tunnels are too small.  Instead, they run their Amfleet series, based on the Metroliner cars.

    /idealbb/files/AmfleetMetrolinerCoach.JPG
The attached ZIP only contains the regular rail cars.  My next post will have the elevated and subway versions.

    /idealbb/files/AmfleetMetrolinerCafe.JPG

Because of their low-slung, rounded shape, these quickly earned the nickname AmCans.  They are common in New England and on the Chicago-NYC/Boston/DC trains, and look right at home behind Trolca's Amtrak engines.

This is my first true custom model, and as such, it should be considered a beta.  It seems to work OK though, and features the truckless wheel set as seen on these cars.  There is no night-lighting on these cars yet (this is for a reason; my next post will illustrate).

Did you ever want your Sims to ride an electric Metroliner in from the suburbs, then dive underground to arrive at Penn Station?  Now you can do it.

    /idealbb/files/MetrolinerElSubAddOn.JPGhttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/MetrolinerElSubAddOn.JPG border=0>

This set contains two Metroliner Cab/Coach electric locomotive units for regular rail, a matching pair for elevated rail, and Metroliner coach cars for both elevated and subway.  The rules for Elevated are the same as for regular rail, you use one original-replacement engine and optionally, extra locomotive(s)EDIT: The extra elevated locomotives are not recognized by the game - it uses them, but puts them on regular rail.  Sorry about that, it looks like you get one original replacement engine for the elevated and that's it.

DO NOT USE the elevated Extra locomotives.

    /idealbb/files/MetrolinerCabHeadlight.JPGhttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files/MetrolinerCabHeadlight.JPG border=0>
This is also considered beta.  The cars don't have night-lighting so I could put headlights on the cab units.  There's a way to do both but the custom night-lighting model I need to make for it is a HUGE task and will take a while.

    For now, enjoy.

Silly board's eating my attachments again.  It's supposed to be beta1, not 11. *sigh*

Sure.  To avoid cluttering up this thread and making it hard for people to find things, I have a request thread going here:

    https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=49485

Just put a link to the photos (to save bandwidth), or post them if there's no site link, and I'll put it on my list.

I have seen Amtrak run something like the superliners in the Northeast corridor before.

I have to say but the metroliners look good.

I have seen Amtrak run something like the superliners in the Northeast corridor before.

Those were probably Amtrak's new ViewLiner cars.  They're only single-deck, but they have a second window above the normal one for a better view in coach, and so that sleping-car passengers on the top bunk also get a window.

EDIT: Here's a better look at the Metroliner elevated version.

This is great guys!  I'm really impressed with your achievements in modding the trains!

Just a couple of *begs* requests - could you make the sounder commuter trains in Seattle, Washington, and the Amtrak Cascades that travels between Eugene, Oregon and Seattle, Washington?

Since I live in the NW and am building a NW-flavored region, I would love to have these trains in it!

Thanks - and here are some info links you can check out:

She's actually got both of those on her request thread, https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=49485

Sounder relies on a custom car and probably engine model, and the Cascades will be impossible to correctly do. There can't be an constant engine on both ends, and the finned cars behind/in front of them also couldn't be constant. Since I live in Sno. County, I'd love to see both of them too.

Thanks for fielding that one, K-man.

I had a breakthrough last night, and went to bed at 5:00 AM with the Sounder/GO Bombardier car model built!  There's a photo in the request thread - it's wearing a rough test skin that I use to line things up, nothing spectacular, but painting and detailing them is the easy (if a bit time-consuming) part.  We should be seeing GO Transit within a week.  Also, it seems that people really like to take pictures of the Sounder, so I've found a wealth of good images to work from.  These trains have the highball now.

As for those Cascades Talgo trains, if I did one without the tail fins would that be acceptable?  I could probably fake the one on the lead car by putting them on the locomotive.

My pleasure to take the pressure off of ya. Looks like we will be seeing a new set soon. 2.gif

Go ahead and play around with trying the Cascades. I say faking the fins on the engine would be your best bet, as long as you get the regular cars looking good, it should be fine. We can just pretend they decided not to run two engines. Heck, make an Vista Dome, since you seemed to be dissapointed they didnt make one!

i dont know how you manage to have enough time to deal with all these request lol, it took me ages per train skin. 14.gif
could you consider doing some european trains though? something a little closer to home would be nice. but if youre only limiting trains to the US then thats fine, i can understand that. good luck with future mods! 51.gif
