Best download for commute time

I noticed that the ability to design cities is severly limited by commute time and buildings being abandoned because of it.  Is there a mod that shortens commute time to avoid the devastating effects of this problems?

Thanks

Why not install the new Nam. Not only does Nam modify the game's system capacities, but also mods for better pathfinding (if you choose). You also get a few other cool neat modes of transport too like the GLR and EL over road + a few others. 3.gif

The most current version came out about a few weeks ago and includes features to allow you to specify exactly how you want your transit systems to function from capacity to air pollution caused by traffic to even raising or lowering fares to Sims using transit.

to add to walden's comment, I heard that the new NAM prevents buildings from being abandoned because of long commutes

I'm afraid it's not true, I still have abandoned houses 15.gif

By itself, NAM won't prevent buildings from abandoning if the conditions exist that cause abandonment. NAM "may" help decrease abandonment by incorporating better pathfinding into the game, but long commutes may still result depending upon the layout.

No matter how good they make it, someone can always play the game worse 2.gif

Don't forget also that some of the "commute issues" are not transit problems, but actually caused by improper mix of wealth/education levels of R for the levels of C and I that you have developed. If your residents are improperly matched to the C and I, they will be unable to find a job "close by" (actually anywhere) so they will report commute failures.

Better integration of R into C and I zones is about it. I believe there are some simulators for traffic that apply to SC4 vanilla, but I have no experience with it

I think I would have to agree with SC4BOY. You can only do so much with mods, the rest is the layout of the city. I find cities with wide rivers don't work unless they have seperate job systems. The bridges just make a long commute time.
