I'm new to Simcity 4 and have been looking through the different Mods and there are so many I dont know where to start.

I have already downloaded and installed NAM. I basically want more buildings, more traffic features, mass transit, traffic and pollution solvers and any other you think should come under the catagory of "MUST HAVE"

Thanks in advance for your help

Well, you can add the following to the list: The Real Highway Mod (or Rural Highway Mod, as the current downloadable version is called). This mod allows you to build quite advanced motorway interchanges.

Read the Readme or drown in bugs and glitches; the choice is yours...

Deep lurk mode: ACTIVE

I'm just gonna make a list for you!

NAM - 100% essential

RHW - Very Useful

Pegasus - very good stuff

NDEX - Very great buildings

For some suburban houses, there are some really great things at SC4 Devotion...

Anything else you need, just search for it 2.gif

These people are my top favorites, they don't have a buttload of dependencies so they are easy to install, properly named and look decent in the menus and the lots are excellent.

    Fast food, restaraunts, dennys/mcdonalds etc.

School Packs, add some educational variety, amongst other downloads.

MadHatter106's items are MUST HAVE, Lower wealth commercial lots that grow. There are so many and they don't really have any dependencies either.

Simgoober also has a nice mix of real and fictional buildings, some of his lots have alot of dependencies though.

Cycledog's Tree Mod is wonderful too..

You could also go around in some CJs and if you find something you like, you could maybe ask them where they got that addon. I used to do this when I was new to the community. It helps a lot. Only thing is, if they don't remember where they got it 4.gif)

I wholeheartedly concur with this. 2.gif  Heheheheheh...

I would add dk1's Diners, as well as some of his other smaller commercials.  jmyers2043 has a few packs of small commercial shops which were a great inspiration to me when I first started out.  Simgoober has many great BATs, and must-haves of his for me include a set of apartment buildings he did to add variety to the existing Maxis ones.

There are lots of others, depending on your playstyle and what you might focus on in-game, but the ones I just listed are the ones I would absolutely have to have in my Plugins folder if I were to eliminate everything else.

GOOD TEXTURES ARE MADE, NOT FOUND.
(I get tired of saying that in BAT threads.)

"Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag them down to your level." - Quentin Crisp
"I believe in talking behind peoples' backs. That way, they hear it more than once." - Fran Lebowitz
"Ordinary morality is for ordinary people." - Aleister Crowley
"No one ever said on their deathbed, 'Gee, I wish I had spent more time alone with my computer.' " - Dani Bunten Berry

I might suggest BSP(Barry Sanders Project), Jasoncw, Nofunk and SimHoTToDDy bats. They modelled a wide choice of commercial buildings, and some industrial, residential and civics too, both pre-war and modern buildings.

Don Miguel did some other good buildings.

If you are registered at SimCity4Devotion you might want to search for Mattb325 (great single-family homes) JBsimio and Simgoober (little bit of everything) and Jestarr (old industrial and UK residential buildings).

    Hope this helps.

Interesting thread. When I think of this topic, the thought comes to mind: If I lost all of my plugins today, which ones would I start downloading first? NAM absolutely. Not everyone is a RHW fan, so you may find disagreements there. I would also download a terrain mod and water mod immediately as well. These 3, IMHO, have the biggest impact on the game in terms of cosmetics and function. Secondary for me would be enhancements to existing functions within the game: PEG's seaport, commuter stations for rail and El, and various subway stations. Keeping it short, that's my take.

... on a side note...madhatter's BATs ARE indeed an excellent choice. Come on, "Juanita's Washateria?" Instant classic.

    Trust Christ.
