Hello, I just joined Simtropolis this week, but would like to say this:

You need to become a civil engineer, your portfolio is already complete.

Secondly, approximately how long do you spend each day working on this? Or even total time so far?

Lastly, my largest no mod/plugin region reached a population 907,000 people, yours is absolutely incredible, you inspire those who play and enjoy SimCity 4 as is.

    KEEP GOING

i wouldn't say anything is complete yet... but it would be awesome if someone got a job as a civil engineer for playing simcity well.

i've spent over a year on this and i average about 2-3 hour a day...maybe more as some days all i do is play simcity... i would say i've put a total of 1000 hours or more creating this region

I'm not really going for population... but its an added bonus since the region view only has 2 options... Transport or Satellite... the number shows me how many sims my region is accomidating... if only there were more views... like all the data views in region mode... it would be cool to see the busiest areas from the region view... or where all my garbage is going

thanks, ive been working on getting more and more sims to use ferries and will start populating the ocean with either natural islands like my last update, or make dubai-like islands where everything is planned and have some fantastic pictures to form the land.... however, my computer has been in a box now for almost a week and ive been gnashing my teeth out wanting to play, but first i need to get a desk to setup on... it's going to be a while before i can do another update...

well, i would show you a region view... however my region size has just increased... i will need a more powerful computer to show the entire region at once... and im doing all the terraforming by hand this time around...

    there will be:

                                1,584 Districts (small)

                                180 Sectors (large)

                                1,188 Zones (medium)

which means my city now has 2,952 city tiles

and i figure by the time i upload these remaining 87 remaining pics i will have terraformed enough to not be embarassed

here is a bmp if you'd like to see if your computer can handle it...

    config-1.jpg

(this does not count as one of the pics)

87 more pictures remaining before i show the new region...

it takes my computer about 30 seconds to load the region in simcity

    pc specs:

    amd quad 2.5

    4 gigs 1066 ram

    9800gt 1 gb nvidia graphics

4 tb storage on 6 sata 3gb hard drives

windows 7 ultimate< sorry i was gone for so long, just installed

i run the game in compatablity mode for xp sp3, maxed graphics at 1680x1050... and have no problems with lag in game...

oh, did you know that when your region is getting pretty filled you can hear them in region view...

ill probably end up making a movie to show off the size of the new region, however untill then we must get through these remaining 87 pics

well, i can't wait to show you my new region.... i've done a lot of terraforming, but have hardly put a dent in the new map

to put it in perspective, it is now the size of 36 regions... and what you've seen me buid so far was only 9 starter regions altogether.... now it is 36... it takes ages to move from one side of the map and i can no longer open it with the region census... and since im limited to the amount of bandwith i can use ill have to wait a week till i can get somewhere to upload any videos i may make

im glad i decided to not use plugins, because now the tallest skyscraper or most detailed building would be only a speck on the map that is the municipality matrix...

oh and since i cant open the region with any terraformer, im forced to do it all by hand, which isnt a bad thing, however i believe it is going to take over a year to get it the way i want (and maybe a year naming all the cities... (good thing i decided to number instead of giving them names) anyway i said i had 90 pics to show you before i whip out the extended map.. so here are a few..

    8-8.jpg

    7-8.jpg

    3-13.jpg

i see a good place for a park

    6-11.jpg

and the next morning, the sims dont mind being so close to the factories

    4-13.jpg

    5-13.jpg

    2-14.jpg

district 127 isn't the greatest city in the Matrix, however there are 1,583 more districts, 1188 zones, and180 sectors that need attention also... and i dont even think ive shown a sector yet.... too bad i dont think i took any pictures of any for the 80 something more pics i have to show before i reveil the nation sized.... let me do some math here

a starting region is 16 large city tiles and one tile is 4,096x4096 meters

so a region would be 16,384 meters square

my region is 36 regions all together... so it's 6 regions x 6 regions

    16,384 x 6 = 98,304

which means all together it will be 98,304 X 98,304

    which is 61 miles x 61 miles

and if i've fit 3,600,000 sims easily onto one quarter of the size of the new map, my projected population is 14,400,000...lets keep in mind the protected areas... massive region size lakes and otherwise unbuildable terrain... im sure that the city will grow to way north of the projected population size...

oh, and im trying to think of how to start naming all these cities... i think im going to start at the top and scan across left to right and name all the districts over the entire map (i started out with the sectors last time) since there are sooo many of them... next ill do zones, and then sectors... then maybe i can think about filling up the city tiles....

when i play this game time seems to slip away... hopefully im not an old man when i finish this, however it looks like ive bit off a rather large peice and it will take many years to chew it all up...

still going without plugins as they would be moot... however i would like someone to build me an arcology that would be one large city tile in size (or make all 4 of them from simcity 2000) make 2 small city size.. one medium size... and make the launch arco one large city tile in size.... i will have some concept drawings as soon as i peice them together... i want them to be modular so you have to build them in sections (less likely to crash) and that connect to every type of transport tool (avenue, road, highways, train, el rail, monorail, and subway)

i may have to get into modding or batting, but im scared it will take away from my building time...

    thank you for listening...

so this will be a zone update... a few more pics than a district

ill be going to the coast for a week in a few weeks... i hope by that time i will have been able to put together some videos or something to show off the recent expansion to my region... i hope it will show everyone why simcity 4 is truly waaay better than cxl... and i havnt had to use any mods...

its great knowing that i can jump to any sort of city i desire to play (manufacturing city, high tech, ag city, small town, commerical city, commerical office city, and all the others inbetween) all on the same map... with many more citys in between them... if there was any way to make the regional map unlimited and the whole world play on the same map... and it played like simcity 4 with some variations (like where does the industry go when it gets to the border) then i could be happy.. untill then i guess i just show you some pics of a zone in this massive region... i would catigorize this as a 'highway town'

    let's take a look at a 24 hour period in zone 33

the reason i placed it in the middle of the dirt fields is because i wanted to up the land value, so when i add water and some High density industry where those fields are it will be gleaming high tech....

and the university is one of those unique builds that effect the whole map... i thought it would look good once i have the research facility, and maybe a stadium near by... as to create to college of the college town, complete with high tech jobs for graduates and and place to let it all go cheering for the home team.... those residence that are zoned near by are going to be high density high-rises, and will be the student housing and dormitories

Or you could put in the center of the poor community, up the land value, clean out the low density zones and replace them with high density zones, destroy the dirty industry to create a high tech industry area, load it with parks, and try to max out the population of a small tile! We all have our own playing styles. : )

i see what you are saying... but there are so many more cities to work on... i remember laying the water pipes in zones that i wanted to have high rises in and zoning them high density, but i havn't bought any water from any of the neighbors yet or built a water pump, so untill then i guess the sims have to wait...

ill take your input and work on the city a little though... im not going for how many sims can fit on a tile or anything, but ill produce plenty of high tech industry and some high rises for the poor college students around the college... the reason im not going for a high populated city is because this is the break between 2 other larger cities that are many city tiles large and i dont want to kill my demand or cause everything to abandon... but i do need to satisfy some high tech industry demand, and this city will be the place... from farm town to high tech mega plex

looking at the region map the placement of this particular cities university is of minimal concern... but this city will take a turn for the better as soon as i buy some water

i have prepared 33 pictures from another area... and it looks as if im going to have to start taking more pictures of my region...i have terraformed over 300 cities for the video update i promised... but id like to make it 1000 (and even then there are going to be many unedited parts...

the new map size is unbelieveable... and just a fun fact: did you know when you have a substantial population that nearly fills your region you hear sounds city sounds... well after i enarged my city this time everything has gone silent again... its like im just starting out

and no one has checked out my math on the region size... so im sticking to over 61 square miles for my new map... when will cities xl get a 61 square mile map.... umm never <<<< why im sticking simcity 4 and saying that it a far superior time wasting device than any other city building game ever

and we're not even considering the mods that are filling up the stex.... which i wont be using, but are there for people anyway... here are those 33 pics i promised... and stay tuned to see my expanded region... (maybe ill take a few pics before the video to get your feet wet)

    74-1.jpg

    51-2.jpg

    52-2.jpg

    53-2.jpg

    54-2.jpg

well, i have about 7 more pics to show you before the video update... but they are all region shots so i wont bore you...

or maybe ill do only region shots for my next update.... i figure you can see one region size area on the screen at a time (minus the corners) so maybe ill take 36 picutres of the region to show you an overview of what i have before i do a video update....

this game makes my imagination go crazy... so tell me, what sort of geographical features do you think i should incorporate into the matrix.... i have rivers, streams, canyons, cliffs, mountains, valleys, gorges, highlands, lowlands, coasts, lakes, oceans, mesas, plateus, hills, islands, and if there is anything else you would like to see in the region, im taking requests....and tell me how many cities you would like to see it run through... i have plenty of space and would enjoy filling requests

oh, and terraforming by hand is soo fun, i almost forgot how fun it is... good thing too because i still have well over 1000 cities to terraform... one by one

edit: lol you cant see zone 127 on the region map i provided, but thanks for playing

i hope this post gives me a page jump...

    just a quick update...

of the 2214 tiles i added to the matix, i have 660 terraformed...

it has been a day and night process of constantly loading  and reloading city tiles to sculpt them all with the tools simcity 4 deluxe has at it's disposal... each city must be loaded at least twice to get it to look right...

i load a city, terraform, save, load a neighbor and reconcile edges and terraform, then load another city boardering the first city, reconcile, terraform, save back to region, and keep going ... im going to have to load all 2,214 cities 2 to 3 times before it looks right, then i can begin naming, i may name them all before i start building... and for this new area im going to have all large tiles easy, mediums medium, and smalls will be hard difficulty... i have no idea when i will finish... but i only have terraformed 660 tiles all together...

im not going to show much... only tease

this area is just to the east of the mines.... notice i havnt planted any trees... but i may once areas start to look a little nicer...

this area will be called the wetlands...

    MunicipalityMatrix-1289946328.jpg

this area, along with the other 2,214 cities still need a lot of work... but i no longer have any tools to do it with a 3rd party program... and since i dont have access to the internet like i did before, im stuck doing this work all by hand

i dont know how much i play, but i do know that the power bill is up $200 from last month.... so i am limiting myself to only 4 hours a day to construct...

oh and since i havnt named or played any of these cities yet, the area that used to be the ocean has islands popping up all over the place

let me know if you want 'moar' and ill try to show you what you want to see... but you'll have to wait till about mid december to see the video (by that time i should have at least 1000 cities terraformed and should make for a better video

what i have started so far.... the highlands, canyons, the true ocean and seaside cliffs, rivers, streams, lakes, and undulating terrain filling all the tiles going east about 2 large tiles deep and south about 4 deep... all the way to simnation

i never knew simcity could be this big, but the game runs smoother every day, and have only had one crash in the process, although saving to region takes about a minute

    our world is a simcity

Can I see the entire region? I'd like to see everything in the region! It would be epic with the amount of work you put into your region and cities. Great work.
