    1. i only use click fill (click and hold the mouse untill an area fills) for zoning and dezoning all areas.. fill the whole region like this

2.wait till the entire map is zoned before unpausing (on large maps i create a seed that generates some money while i zone the entire map... sometimes i take out loans but that's only if i havnt filled the map up yet and im running out of money

3.for every click of residential i give about 20 clicks of ag (make sure you clikc on the end of a road so that the streets contnues to branch out to the edge of the map.

    4. maybe about 3 clicks of residential and i fill the map

    5. once everything is zoned i choose a power station (generally i use wind) and put them anywhere (other powerstations need workers... but not wind

    6. connect all the streets that made it to the borders

7.save to region come back unpause and let run for 10 years

    8. if a street is red in the transport map it becomes a road

    9. if a road is busy then i put commerical along it (not too much though try to always keep it positive)

10.farms with giant plants on them bulldoze

11.. all farms that dont ahve workers on them get some residental zoned near them

    12. zone a small landfill on the end of a street that doesnt go through

    13. zone residental on every street that doesnt go through

14keep upgrading streets and putting commerical on busy roads

    15 save to region often

16.. repeat steps 1-15 to all the other cities in your region

    17. pick a city as your capitol pick an adjacent city and zone some big landfill areas in that city and start buying all the garbage from your neighbors (and their neighbors buy their neighbors garbage and it all gets sold to you

    18. create a waste to power to deal with the garbage heap

19 with the extra power give the sims of this city all major eminities schools police fire health

20.dezone a 1x3 area at every point of a neighbor city and connect a power line to the neighbors and sell all your power

    21. this should help you unlock powerstations... build what you unlock and sell the power it creates... zone in farm areas with dirty industry

    22. go back to the city that is your capitol...make sure all its waste is being bought and power is being sold... maybe take out power stations

    23. zone all residntial on a road to medium and place water pipes under them and run a water lines to all neighbors

    24. add a few water pumps in a neighbor city that has a clean spot in the water quality map under map views and sell all water to your capitol

    25. let the capitol run

    26. all over used networks get upgraded to avenues.. bulldozer comes in handy where an avenue connects to a neighbor put a 1 way road that allows it to loop back into the city

    27. build reward buildings and maintain a positive cash flow

    27. keep zoning commerical on busy networks

    28. add high density in areas with little or no traffic

    25. keep upgrading and fine tuning... reducing intersections and maybe adding busses

    26. a capitol has to have a 2 city buffer in all directions

    27. neighbors to the capitol get industry

    28. keep going

maybe i should make a video...

Wow, those are indeed huge landmarks. As for the strategy, I'll try them. I'm currently tinkering with a feeder city from a tutorial by Simmy.uk. His tutorial seems very helpful, but I made my own tutorial to build a big city. But oh well. I can just use your tutorial and build up my very own big metropolis! 9.gif *Starts copying on notepad programme*

Well, I'm done with that. Now, I have downloaded a region and I'm gonna begin to build my region.

make sure that your region map has small medium and large cities to maximize inner city neighbor boder connections

all of one size tile minimizes neighbor connections

OK, then. Unfortunately, I've realized that most maps here on Simtropolis uses SC4Mapper. If you're thinking what the problem is, it is the fact that that many people use it. Oh well. At least there is SC4 Terraformer. BTW, how did you build the region? Through painstaking good old SC4 terraforming?

what i did for this map was start a new region in the game.... i then loaded a jpg using ctrl shirt alt r... it's dimensions are usually 1025x1025

when that region is full then i can teach you how to expand

    Oh, OK then.

And I know how to expand the region:

    1. Load the config for the region.

    2. Expand the config picture.

    3. Load your region.

    That's it!

yeah... but it's best to start out with a small region you can expand on... and remember the region can only expand to the right and down from the upper left-hand corner... and any mistake in altering the config can result in losing the region... so back up before expanding

Got it. I've started a new city in a Maxis random generated region and will expand with configs from other randomly generated regions.

for this region i just rotated and flipped the config's copies around it, but yours is also a good method... i think there are maybe 20 different random maxis config designs... water and land

i started wth a water region and the config with the most large city tiles then loaded my jpg

Good, then. I'm starting on a large map and I've almost filled up the map. I created it as a mostly hilly area and a river goes through it.

OK, then. I just remade the city and it is going fine. I think it was a bug or something and yeah, I use the Census building to keep detailed track of everything going on in my city.

there is the stand alone program the region census that can do all that data and doenst make your game have to keep track of it for you... and most pertinent data can be found in the data maps and view... the game is very counter intuitive... i always thought the most fun thing are the data views, overlays and graphs... anything that tries to simplifiy the equation only makes it more complex...

Well, my city has luckily been saved. Somehow, the game unexpectedly quit, so I frantically waited for the game to load. I found my sity still there. Its stats:

    5,030 Low Wealth Residents

    5,179 Agriculture Jobs

something is out of sway... there should be more residents than jobs...unless they are coming from a neighbor tile

I think it looks really good, and i would rather play the game than organize plugin folders. No one woud have the game if it wasnt for the art in my cj
