Libraries and Museums

Hi! I'm running a large city right now with a network of 5 local libraries and the main one. However, i've noticed that after the main library is in place, the local ones are almost not used anymore. I started to demolish them since it seems only the main library is being used. Same happened with the small museums and the major art museum.

Should I keep the libraries and museums anyway to extend coverage or something, even if the usage is so low? (like 20 visits or so for the museums, and less than 1000 books checked in the small libraries)?

Thanks for your time!

I would. Even if the library or museum isn't being used its placement will influence the desirability of the neighborhood. You might try removing them and replacing with a nice park or playground but I generally prefer a library to a grassy lot. If it is a neighborhood that you intend to develop further into higher density then leaving the building until demand increases is a good move.

The neighborhood is already developed and I'm not that good on cash right now. That's why I prefer to demolish them if they have no impact on education anymore.

Well, a library that's not being used can be dropped down to minimum funding ($12, I think) with no negative consequences... You just have to make sure the # of books available stays above the # of books checked out. The library still has an educational effect within the radius shown on your map, so I would keep it, just at the minimum possible funding.

I find that the Main Library, and the Major Art Museum, are the only things needed after they are placed. I usually place them, then rip out all my other libraries and museums since they aren't needed. If you want to keep some around for the heck of it, that's your call, but game-mechanics wise I find that they are not needed.

yeah, i usually plan on bulldozing... plop the libraries and museums down needed to unlock the master building... build the master building and delete the other facilites... it is only when the the gifts are used too much do i build more of the small libraries and museums

I think the main library and museum have city wide coverage anyways so anymore are not nessasary until you fill up the capacities of the main ones.  If you want to keep them for their nimby effects lower their funding.
