Well, DM, I think that I've figured out the problem.  I took your mod and added my modded EffDir (with opacity set to 100%) and found something interesting.  It seems that the fog only suffers from the 'no fade' problem when it goes into 'fade out' mode.  So I set the fade time property to 10 seconds (instead of 60) and the issue is much less noticable.  I'm still not sure what could be causing the problem in the first place, though, but I'll keep looking at it.

The problem was constant on my system. Neigher clouds nor fog faded out at all when I moved the mouse over them. They faded away normally and faded in normally when they appear and dissapear, but moving the mouse over them didn't have any effect whatsoever.

What exactly is the point in this? I can hardly tell the difference of it between fog and clouds. And it oly appears near water.

Well, thanks for the vote of confidence, jcab. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/28.gif>

Everyone has to keep in mind, I don't have ultimate flexability here. I can only enable what Maxis had hidden. I can't make the fog look like anything, or behave in a certain way. I can basically turn it on, and tweak it within the parameters Maxis has specified.

Alright, DM.  I'm still not sure what exactly is causing the problem with the clouds not fading.  I'm not sure which version of the EffDir that you're using, but my latest (attached) only affects some of the fog banks that were burning off naturally.

Anyway, I made a few more tweaks.  In addition to decreasing the Fade Time property, i also increased the size of each bank, stretched it out along the x-axis, and increased the opacity to 100%.  Here's a look at my last test:
    /idealbb/files/FogShot3.JPG
I think that the stretching, especially, has greatly improved the look of the fog banks.  When you compare this latest version, there is a more noticable difference between the clouds and the fog banks.  Take a look at it and let me know if the fade-out problem is still as bad on your machine.  And, again, let me know what kind of changes you need from my end.

    fog FYI:

I tried to use this mod but in game my 'god mode' tree tool failed to work properly and when I switch from day only to the day/night cycle it would never change.

So I deleted the mod and now those two things work again.

They also worked fine pre-fog mod so I can only assume it did something to those two functions.

Ah! Red, its looking much better. :> Are you making all of these changes in the effdir? Or are you also editing the exemplar? I need to learn how to edit the effect directory myself, as it seems you can do a LOT with it.

I'll test out your latest tonight.

You say that the fog goes on the day to night cycle every day! I have never heard of a city with fog every day. If you could possibly do something about that then it would be a nice touch in my cities. Good for realism.

chase n74704 didn't use a mod. he just used a image editing program like photoshop to put the fog in.

Glad you like it.  Almost all of the changes are being made to the EffDir.  The only property I changed in the exemplars was the 'Fade Out Time' property.  I'd be glad to teach you everything I know about the file some time.  I wouldn't recommend the tutorial that I wrote, though.  Major disaster it was.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/8.gif>

Incognito--I have no idea what is going wrong with your game.  I just ran a test with the mod and didn't have any problems with it.  Can anyone else confirm this bug?  Maybe it was a bad download (or upload for that matter).

    uhh.... reasonable requests please3.gif

hopefully in a few months we'll be able to get better fog to work, and maybe even fix a bug or two if we're lucky 1.gif

That being said, once again excellent work guys. Really looking forward to downloading the mod and trying it out.

Yayo, what you showed in the pic you posted is a cloud, not ground fog. That is the precise look of clouds. You can't make more dense fog, and you can't change how it looks. I didn't create fog, I just turned on what Maxis had created, and tweaked a few settings so it would appear. We don't have much control over exactly how it looks.

About the Mod.  When I added the ground fog mod, I noticed that at certain elevations in god mode I couldn't add trees.  And also when the mod was in place, I still didn't see fog.

That looks really cool! If there is ever a winter mod try this:
    <ahttp://www.tbsource.com/SuperNova/Content/Images/962068725.jpg.jpg width=600>

It is ice fog, and will freeze to your skin if you touch it! It was -45 when this picture was taken! The sun hit the lake, and that fog all popped up! I happenes a lot in the winter her, and  only lasts a little while.
