STOP...Please Read !!!  ... Please reconsider shutting down planet mode! /

To The Folks in Charge at CITIES XL, You can save this game from being a complete failure

don't shut down planet mode ....you can breath new life in to it,  Just do these three things and

you'll see a flood of old and new subscribers!! ....don't let the game you worked so hard on die.

1. Give us trains and monorails plus planes that we can actually see flying around!.

2. Give us more futuristic skyscrapers of different sizes and develop some pollution scrubbers!.

3. ...And last you get $50 a-pop for this games, most important just charge $30 a year for planet mode!.

The people at Cities XL will not read this. They have made a decision and it is final. There have been other people that are doing what you did, and no amount of saying things will get them to change their mind. We dont need another topic of requests. One is enough and this one is unneeded. There is alreday one here, please post there.

$30 a month for more things that should be in a buy once expansion or in the game to begin with (trains)?

How rich are you?

The failure of planet offer is far too complex to be fixed by a few more gimmicks anyway.

Edit: Upon further thought the planet offer could actually still survive and be used. However, MC would have to simplify things considerably and not host more than the equivalent of .txt files on their servers that hold on to trade information or other such things. It would essentially be a single player game then, which I doubt will satisfy anyone at this point. They'd pretty much have to turn the multiplayer aspect into a very small online game similar to cyber nations. http://www.cybernations.net/

If they do that though, they would most certainly have to do it free...Something I doubt will ever happen.

Considering that was the last line and I did read the thread (posts included!), you should be complaining about how terribly world ending it is that I misread something.

I will spare you the horrific tales of past misreadings on my part, for I do not wish to scar thee for an eternity. I shall attempt more careful readings of further posts for the sake of all mankind.

Also, if MC was struggling with their old financial model on paying for their servers, I seriously doubt $30 a year will fix the situation. His point is still flawed, I just pointed out the wrong flaw initially.

Cities XL will fail, that is a fact. And nothing will stop it. Because simply, they ruined it for them selves. So this topic is actually useless, because nobody really cares anymore.

Do we really know that MC was strugglig to pay for their servers? Isn't it more likely that they were struggling to pay their employees to constantly come up with new content each and every month like they said that they would? And as such since subscriptions was a failure they couldn't continue to pay the employees to continue to work on a project that few wanted to subscribe to.

It's really not so holy expensive to pay for servers, one needs only to hook up with the right provider, however experienced programmers are outrageously expensive to pay for.

Yeah. no deep simulation = fail imo. The entire game would need a complete rewrite in order for me to buy it which wont happen.

Nice idea, but sadly to say it's not going to happen, PO needs more then just some fancy new building to fix it. PO had a bit of a image problem as well, I guess the "mob" has spoken. You don't have to look too far to see just how bad the image problem is, "PO'd over I was never going to buy it anyway", "PO over I don't like paying for thing" and so on.

/agree.  Well said.

The PO had significant/deep design issues to start.  Now it has a bad rap/PR disaster on its hands.  There are not quick fixes for either.  I'm afraid its done, unfortunately.

I'm holding out hope that the recent Sim City World news is a sign that the dream of a persistent (mmo) city builder is not dead.

They ARE saving CitiesXL... MC has even implied as much. Planet offer was killing the game.

So the 40 dollars I spent on the game shouldn't count? I should not get a complete game for FORTY dollars? Most complete games cost..... wait for it... 40 dollars!

SO I am perfectly fine with paying my way, thank YOU very much!

Post combined, please do not double post, please use the "Edit" button found on lower right if you have another thought.

Monte Cristo tried to create a new king of city simulators. Heres where they dropped the crown:

Big mistake = Lack of freedom for modders
Serious mistake = Lacking the simulation depth and content found in earlier rivals
Fatal mistake = Attempting to create a niche market by transforming a traditionally "offline" genre into an MMO.

Tips for next time Monte Cristo:

  • Learn from your rivals
  • Modders are your friends, not your enemies
  • When it comes to fans, the majority opinion is the right opinion
  • Biggest tip of all... Build a decent product  before you go revolutionizing a genre..
