  1. Still ok to Buy Cities XL??

To answer the post, I waited before buying (I HAVE played it, however) and my decision seems to be a very wise one that I am very happy with. I do intend to purchase the new game, unless they shoot themselves in the foot again. Hopefully they have learned....
  2. Cities XL 2011 - Out in "a few weeks"

I'm very happy I chose to wait before I bought and tried a friend's copy!

It wasn't too productive before and I see it being even less productive now that the PO is gone. It's too bad it didn't work out but I think MC should move on.quote> For once....we are in full accord on something!

And if they don't deliver it, then they OWE me an explaination. I want a game every bit as complete as any other 40 dollar game out there. And, now, with the new changes, I just might get what I and the rest of you paid for! Originally posted by: dirtyword I would not buy this game. Their support of the game is heinous. There's no way that they people who worked at the company just found out about this this week - they had to have known prior. Yet they continued to sell planet offer subscriptions, and not only that, they locked off key features of a 40 dollar game until you committed to a monthly fee. I would love to play this game, and I thought the trial was interesting, but I will not give this company my hard earned money. They have failed to meet several promises and treated their customers poorly.quote> Well hopefully they will change, I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt but your facts are correct and you make some very good points here. Originally posted by: mentarman Well, my friend, I still have to reply "Huh?" Not really sure what you mean by the last part, but I think MC is past "creating intrigue." I mean "We're cancelling PO because it is a financial failure" isn't really something that's going to set the gaming world abuzz in a positive way. Neither is "We're going to try to retool things and focus on doing what we can with the solo mode." They have basically said their main business model has failed and they are going back to the drawing board to try to salvage what they can. I guess you can read some conspiracy into that , but it seems likely to me their business model failed and that they are now trying to salvage what they can. You think they are hedging because they have some nefarious plot afoot I guess, I'm guessing they just have no idea how they are going to put it all together and they are trying to figure that all out without necessarily telling us every idea and detail along the way. I really don't see what's wrong with that. I mean, what's the worst case here? What could they be hiding? What are the "two parts lie" when all they've really said is things didn't work out (that's gotta be the one part truth, right?) and they are going to try to salvage things a bit for solo players? So you think they aren't trying to salvage things for solo players? Then why bother lie? You think it might not work out? I agree, it might not, but shouldn't we know that already? You want the company to say it might not work out? What do you want them to say? quote> Do me a favor - read the original Cities Unlimited forums, then get back at me. I believe a few outsanding individual are posting them on here. Originally posted by: Asheroo And these details aren't ready to be released, why? Because it is WORK-IN-PROGRESS. quote> Shouldn't that have been over with Sept. 2009 when the game was released? 5. Saving Cities XL !!

They ARE saving CitiesXL... MC has even implied as much. Planet offer was killing the game. Originally posted by: mrdazza_460 , "PO'd over I was never going to buy it anyway", "PO over I don't like paying for thing" and so on.quote> So the 40 dollars I spent on the game shouldn't count? I should not get a complete game for FORTY dollars? Most complete games cost..... wait for it... 40 dollars! SO I am perfectly fine with paying my way, thank YOU very much! Post combined, please do not double post, please use the "Edit" button found on lower right if you have another thought. --Liv
  6. Future plan of CITIESXL2011

MC already has our wishlist.... the now defunct Cities Unlimited forums. No one could ask for any more than what was written in there! And I am happy they are being posted here. I agree with the mods...wishlist threads are really not necessary.

They've said their business model failed and they are scrapping a large part of it and told us what they are hoping to do instead. I don't see how they are keeping much from us, why you would think this is part of some effort to drum up "intrigue," nor why you think they are hiding really bad news. quote> Whenever asked for details, they hedge big time. Just because they admitted failure does not mean they have told you everything. Recipe For Belief: 1. One part truth 2. Two parts lie Stir and combine....

  11. The end of planet offer

The people voted with their wallets, pretty much the only way to create change in the business world. I strongly agree putting the city builder on servers is a good idea, but too far ahead of it's time to be entertaining. Certainly the "we'll fix it/ add it/ release it/ remove it later attitude certainly didn't help them - at all. I disagree 100% with those that say that a city builder surpassing SC4 is impossible. I'm not sure where this pessimistic and groundless idea originated, but I can promise you many city builders in the future - and they will get it right eventually. In closing, I feel that the current direction is the correct one, and I am happy they made it before things got really ugly financially for them. Thanks MC for listening, and as long as you continue to do so, I can promise you will not regret it!
  12. The end of planet offer

My prediction- CXL 2011 will be a kludge of whatever stuff MC has sitting around on the shelf today. Not a single new development dollar (or Euro, I guess) will be spent. A year from now, CXL will have the same size following as SimCity: Societies, and all the rest of us will be enjoying all the new stuff that's been developed in the meantime for SC4. In defense of MC, they have some pretty awesome stuff on their "shelf".... Think back to cities unlimited and the groundbreaking things they were working on, items that never made it to CXL.
  13. The end of planet offer

I hope now that all the features promised on the old CXL forums will be put back into the game! As with many others, I didn't see this working out either. I applaud MC or their pioneering spirit, but city building is an art and not many are willing to put their unfinished masterpieces in a stranger's keeping....
