art128- :golly: Thanks friend! I haven't seen you posting in a while, so let me say welcome back

Thank you! Yeah I was like... little annoyed by a feature in the CJs, and after that I went on a trip to Oslo... But now i'm back and I decided to invest myself a bit more here as well. :P

Hope you can get your model to work on 3dsmax ( and not AutoCAD. :D :D )

I'll take a quiet life... A handshake of carbon monoxide.

Wow, man - you've sure been busy while I was away! I expected to see some updates, but I was not prepared for all the goodness I saw - and that was before I browsed to the page where you showed the first picture of WTC. So many BATs, and they look so good. :golly:

Don't be fooled into thinking that nobody likes your stuff, because everybody does like it - or love it even. I know I do. :]

I'll read more thoroughly through your thread and get back to you via PM soon - got a lot of catching up to do after my vacation...

I think that you CAN do better than the 2005 WTC, and it's looking better already. The plaza was a bit barren in the original, maybe you could add store logos to the entranceways at the bottom? There are plans out there that show the placement of stores 11 years ago...on the morning of a Tuesday, just like this one.

~ COMING SOON! Exciting new projects! ~

Very nice roof and building as a whole.

It kinda reminds me of the old world trade towers in NY :D

Maybe making a second version of this tower, that is abit taller with a big antenna on it would make it one :D

Well guys, after a little while of thinking, calming myself, regaining some sanity after some hectic days, coupled with silently working on my version of the World Trade Center, I have some updates to show you.

I'm done with the Twin Towers-

    twintowers1_zps22e71954.png

    twintowers2_zpsb887716a.png

    twintowers3_zpsa1f0ef32.png

    twintowers4_zpsa602afc4.png

    twintowers5_zpsddbce84b.png

    twintowers6_zps6ded9f8d.png

I also started on an awning as a separate prop for the North Tower, but I couldn't figure out having it overhang in the lot editor...So it's just sitting here in my plugins folder without a use yet-

    northtowerawning1_zps2d28fc8a.png

    northtowerawning2_zpsfd729e7b.png

Don't mind that its on the road... I just put it here to show.

I also started on my own version of 4 World Trade Center-

    4worldtradecenterpreview_zps36b03066.png

The roof texture isn't final. :P Is there anyone here that thinks its too dark? It's pretty clear and bright enough on my computer. This one is intended to be smaller in proportions by the way. It snugly fits a 4x5 or 5x4 lot but for the complex version it'll be 5x5.

I also have my own version of a fountain for a plaza I'm doing-

    newfountainday_zps95b324db.png

I have to thank Gn_leugim again for tips on this one. :)

Well, all buildings I'm making for this complex will be separate lots for different use, or plopping them all together for the Complex. There will be 6 Office Buildings, the 3 plaza buildings, the Twin Towers, and Tower 7. There will be a hotel as well, so a CS$$$ building as well. Then there's the plaza, parks menu, park effects and all that. :D

Oh and IL- There's a reason why it reminds you of the Old World Trade Center in NYC...if you hadn't caught on just yet. ;)

I can release the Twin Towers soon, I would just like them modded as landmarks, and landmarks with jobs...which I unfortunately am so lost in the modding world so I'd like some help with that, if anyone can or would like too.

the thread is alive again eheh ^^

about the awning I know how to make it overlay outside the lot I forgot to tell you. is all about offseting it on gmax while you export it. by definition, your model is (or should be) centred on the scene, having it's centre at X=0 and Y=0. now, let's imagine that awning is 20m wide. if you have it centred, you have 10m to the left and 10m to the right, in relation to the X,Y= 0,0. if you move it (and the LOD's! don't forget them!) 10m to the right, the model would be overhanging on the right side, and, if all goes well, if you set the prop to the edge of the lot, your model will be hanging ;)

I don't know what's your point, but after adding the antenna as I suggested (wich apparently you was going to do it anyway), made it look like the old world trade center, since it was a twin tower, and one of them had an antenna?

Also the fountain & the plaza.

Not to mention that it look like it?

I really don't know what do you mean but your comment.

    Jasoncw- ;)

Gn_leugim- Thank you! I think I figured it out now. You'll see in the pic below. :)

IL- I'm not sure if I'm following what your telling me. :| I didn't add the antenna at your suggestion I added the Antenna because it's supposed to be the North Tower of the World Trade Center. I was just showing the South Tower only first before... These Towers are basically recreations of the Twin Towers in New York but not precise or exact so to say. The Fountain isn't the same either. Look up a picture and you'll see.

Well I got the Awning to overhang, I edited the frames of the glass a bit on the awning. Does it look fine right now? Just wanted to post this real quick.

    Thanks guys. :)

Well I was wondering if anyone could help me with modding these. So far they're stale landmarks with the Big Ben sound...

well as far I know, you want a landmark version and a job version, both with custom query and a new sound, other than bigben. I could do the landmark only version, but then the files would have to go to someone else to take care of the query and job version. for a consistency matter, that is not the best thing to do, the best is to someone do the mods altogether, so all files will be consistent in its properties and/or the last don't have to spend time checking and fixing all properties.

Well, I can't make custom queries, but it's no problem to assign the NYBT query to these. The rest (proper landmark sound and jobs) isn't a problem, either.

Growables may be a bad idea because even a single tower is probably too big. This way it would either hold a ridiculously low number of jobs compared to its size, or the job number would be well above the game limitations if it was chosen to reflect the building size.

Someone on SC4D might be interested in publishing a growable lot for CAM, though - who knows? :)

There doesn't have to be a Custom Query actually. I just thought it'd be a neat idea but it's no biggie. :) The NYBT Query with the Twin Towers on it could suffice if we'd want to do that.

T Wrecks, if you can find the time for me to mod the landmark and ploppable with jobs versions of the towers I'd be very grateful. :)

Twin Towers look splendid to me Sqt Pepper, you did wonderful job. :)

Well, currently I have discovered a computer game that I maybe shouldn't have discovered because it has developed the nasty habit of eating up my spare time. I should be able to mod it, though. There's only one more building in the queue right now, and other RL stuff is slowly getting better, too.

I don't think that these should be growable. besides what T Wrecks said, buildings that are iconic like the twin towers were, and are even more now that they are no more, should be plop able only. Or they lose their speciality. imagine a region with 10 WTC's or even a city, the name twin tower would mean it's meaning and the towers themselves would be vulgar, and not "Those" towers.

    Thanks again guys. :)

Well the Twin Towers themselves are on the STEX now, and they're just ploppable landmarks. Hope you all will like them!

Gotta get back to work on my other stuff, and the other buildings of the WTC. I got 4, 5, 6, a hotel or building 3, and WTC 7 to do as well as finish up the plaza.

Yesterday I downloaded rubik's old WTC complex from 2004, and plopped it next to your Twin Towers. I must say that rubik's BAT - a truly impressive feat for the time it was released! - still has its merits: The composition of the entire complex is very attractive, and the towers themselves look just like the bright, tall boxes in real life. However, viewed from up close, the textures are rather dull and monotonous, especially the windows. The height (less tall than the ESB) seems to be too short as well. Rubik probably didn't apply a scaling modifier and built the towers to 100% real-life height.

However, despite all this and the 8 years that have passed, his WTC is still a landmark of the BATting world.

Your towers look darker due to the glass, but they appear to be more correctly scaled, and the textures look far more vivid and varied. I wonder what would happen if you made the lattice a bit brighter and increased the contrast between regular floors and tech floors (the dark horizontal strips around the building) a bit. In any case, they look much more attractive to my eyes than rubik's old version, so I'd definitely say you are not making something that has already been made and is no longer needed.

Add to this that you chose a different approach. Rubik went for a full recreation, you are focusing more on a "recognisable enough, but well playable and modular" creation.

In short, the STEX will benefit from having two WTC alternatives to choose from, and the side buildings, fountains and plazas could even find use as individual items for people who are no recreation nuts, but appreciate a nice fountain when they see one, no matter what its background is.

That being said, the side buildings in rubik's complex are a bit lacking in the texture department as far as I am concerned, so there's a good chance for you to add even more good arguments for your version.

Keep it up, you're doing a tremendous job so far. :)

T Wrecks- Thanks for the review on my rendition of the Towers. :) I really appreciate the sentiments and your opinion on them.

    Gn_luegim- I hope it was a nice surprise. :D

    IL- Thank you!

Well I did some more work on 4 WTC-

    ezev79.png

Those green doors aren't textured yet so don't mind them. :P

This is where I'm at. Even though this version is smaller in proportions, width and length mainly, I've been trying to find a good photo for the real roof for ideas. The roofs of these plaza buildings are quite barren.
