Go get a job you lazy morons...

I was hoping someone pretty savvy in this could help me out. My Sims aren't getting jobs which are clearly available... Everywhere. This results in cities that have huge amounts of industry and commercial, but hardly any residential buildings. Mods may be responsible (see below). Also, I may just be stupid.

So I got this group of lazy [expletive deleted]-hats...

Problem is, this isn't an isolated problem. All of my cities have a really off-kilter residential to other crap ratio. Tons of commercial, industrial, so-on, but only a handful of residential buildings. Nobody can hold a job, and it isn't the distance, 'cause there are certain buildings who drive across town and have no problems. The only things that employs people are select businesses, and mainly public buildings (entirely public buildings in this screen).

I have some mods (guilty) for lots of demand, and, of course, NAM (5x capacity). Some others that may or may not be related like No Dilapidation, Industry Jobs Quad, Farm Jobs Multiplier, Radical Ordinances are all active in this screenshot. I like sculpting the city more than I like playing the actual game. So what?

Why do they have no job when all the buildings downtown have 0 workers?

Deleted image. Please post a more appropriate one. And resized above image (800 X 600 pixels max)

NAM (5x capacity): You might want to use another one, as the standard Maxis simulator, of which this one is based, is faulty. Instead, I suggest using Simulator Z High. Saving you the details: Unlike the default traffic simulator, simulator Z finds a job if there is one, and thus should fix the problem. And if that doesn't work: First un-install your demand mods, and try again, as in that case it might be demand related. And last but not least, zone some Industry, as perhaps your sims favour industrial jobs over commercial ones.

Regards,

Korot

to kind of adjust to your language: sims are spoiled brats!

got get yourself the nam, especially the traffic simulator Z plugin (comes with the nam, but theres also some upgraded version available over at sc4d)

this wont solve your problem, but at least significantly ease up your commute problems (in standard settings, traffic simulation iso commuting is simulated on a far more unrealistic level than the nam traffic simulator plugins allow)

Someone had a similar problem a while back. The problem, i think, is that your Sims can't get to the other side of the avenue where jobs are. You need to add some more streets that join the two sides of the avenues so Sims can make u-turns and reach the commercial buildings. I'd also download plugins like they said above.

Also, it seems that the jobs don't quite match up with the type of jobs the sims are looking for. Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but if that is true, then it wouldn't matter if you had a whole city tile full of commercial. A seventh grade droupout isn't going to get a job at the office highrise down the street (well, not easily).

Thanks guys, this is great advice. I've reinstalled NAM with the Simulator Z, and I'm looking more into the jobs thing. We'll see how it goes.

    Try in the following order:

    1) Install Simulator Z of NAM

    2) Improve your city's education system.. at least give every residential area access to an elementary school and high school education. You should start seeing some Manufacturing and small office jobs arrive at this point.

    3) Add bus stops once your roads are too congested.. add subway system when your sims can't get to the other end of town fast enough.
