All Buildings Ploppable MOD

Hey, long time browser, first time poster!

I have the mod that makes all buildings ploppable. The commercial buildings generate jobs and work well.

If I plop a residential building, the population of my city increases BUT if I do a 'query' on the building, it says it has

zero workers.

So do these ploppable residential buildings actually supply 'workers' for the commerical/industrial areas?

Thanks

Well like I said, if there is enough work & water and commuting times aren't excessive, the res won't abandon and do add to the population of the city.

I just did a quick test on a new city and plopped some $RES and some $COMM and let it run for 5 mins. Population was about 270 (all plopped) and $COMM

    wasn't abandoning either...

BUT when i click on the building, it may say 14/15 for residents but if I do the query tool, it says there are no workers. ..

As Xyloxadoria mentioned, plopped residentials do not supply workers because Sims can't "get out" of the building. Chances are, the buildings will eventually dilapidate and abandon due to long commute times (may take longer than five minutes).

I know I have some French W2W building that are ploppable, and they work just fine. I have been using these buildings for months now, maybe even a year. I believe the buildings were created by xxanexpen, or someone with a similar name.

When I plop my W2W blocks, I make sure to have an almost even mix of commercial and residential, though with a bit more commercial. This system, if you will, has worked quite well for some time. I have never experienced abandonment problems with these buildings.

    thanks for the replies.

@CaptCity: i realize the 5min 'test' is not the best indication - but - i've plopped $RES & $$RES into my bigger cities and have seen the population indicator increase. I don't have actual time frames but some of these buildings have been plopped and haven't abandoned in 100s of years...

@Jim T: yeah, it seems if I plop $RES or $$RES with a decent mix of commercial, the buildings don't abandon (either the comm or res) SO while some say they don't supply workers when doing a 'query', I do think they are functional when placed properly.

Perhaps you have placed the ploppable residentials on lots that had all ready developed? I know some have claimed success using that method - yet others haven't had success...

Here is some information from some testing from RippleJet...

    Ploppable Residentials

Regarding ploppable residentials, I would ask you to consider this:

The residential capacity reported is depending on desirability factors.

If desirability goes down, and the actual capacity drops below 50%, the building will dilapidate or become abandoned.

The biggest residential desirability factor is the employment. If people can't get employed they usually leave as soon as possible.

Desirability can be increased through other factors, e.g. education, health, land value, park effect, lack of crime, etc.

If you're able to compensate the negative effect of unemployment by these factors, you obviously are able to plop residentials.

Likewise, freight time is a desirability factor for industrials, but not as severe as the unemployment for residentials.

Thus, plopped industrials have a lot better chance of surviving.

For a plopped residential not to abandon right away, the desirability factors must be right when plopping.

That is the reason you have to plop them on top of an existing residential building with a good existing employment. quote>

You can check out the discussion here and here... I guess the question is still open as to whether ploppables are "truly" functional...

    For what it's worth.
