(Farms) Should this be allowed?

ExploitAB.jpg

A. Larger farm built around a smaller one. The game is calculating the area between the outer roads and completely ignores the already occupied land in the center. You can therefore build a farm half as big as the 'minimum size' using this method.

B. Placing roads beyond fertile ground (red zone) before building a farm allows you to build beyond, as shown above.

Please note I don't do this, but to demonstrate that it is possible if people try. Are they exploits and should the be fixed, or is there no cause for concern?

well i like the first idea, thanks for the second one, I think where you can build farms on a map will become redundant with CXL2011 e.g you Will be able to build them anywhere

Especially when using the sandbox-mode where every ressource is available everywhere in every map.

The first is caled farm stacking, and is considered an exploit in the PO(for what that's worth now).  The second is normal behavior.

You'll see that the farm buildings are inside the fertile area, that's where it counts.

Whether it's rocky or swampy, a farm should be able to be placed anywhere like in real life. Topography and climate dictate what type of farm one can have.

Voting exploit on the stacking - it's clearly cheating. The second example, though, just seems clever. I'll have to try it out, especially in those pesky areas around the edges where I end up juuuust short of the minimum necessary.

The second example relies on the building being in the green area -- the rest can be anywhere.quote>

This actually correlates well to an observation of mine about a particularly annoying aspect of farming: silo / fertilizer proximity. It seems that in order for a farm to get the benefit of silos (which have a practical radius MUCH smaller than it appears) is to have the actual building within the greenest zone of silo coverage. This is frustratingly tedious to zone for; mayble they'll fix this in CXL 2011.
