I want MOD and plugins for single-player mode

If no mod or plugin is allowed in single-player, it will not be successful as SC4 and this game will fall very soon.

A good city-builder game should be allowe mod and you shouldn't make any restriction on it.

Allow mod and plugins in single-player mode! Actually I thought that single-player mode will be forcused to be develped than planet offer. But MC give up single-player mode as planet offer can earn you more money. EA earn lots of money through single-player game. Please develop action game into MMO instead of city-building game. How greedy MC is.

If you want mods and plugins for Sim City 4 you will have to wait. People havent made anything for it yet, becsue there are no tools to make the content with. To make plugins you will need a building model, that will have to be modled, then renderd using a script.  That script has not been made yet for cities XL.

Lets look at it this way:

Sim City 4 Was released In February of 2003.

The BAT Plugin that allowed people to make their own buildings was not relased until a year later in February of 2004.

That same gap will likley happen with Cities XL. THere is only so much the people at Monte Cristo can do, and this game hasnt been around for long.  It was released on October 9th, whcih means that it hasnt even been out for a month yet. There will be custom content you just have to WAIT for it.

MC banned the mods because too many players used them to cheat on the Planet Offer. So, to solve it, what they are doing is in the meantime, as Kevin Ar18 said, is they are creating a separate folder for single player mods so people can make mods for single player. It may take them a bit of time though as they will have to change certain things within the system, but give them time then we'll be able to have all our mods back. As for sandbox mode, MC are also making a sandbox mode for the game at the moment which should come around the same time as the new folder for single player mods.2.gif

I'm not sure how Monte Cristo is approaching custom content, but even though people have made buildings, I don't think there's a way to put them in the game yet. As Xylo said, it took SC4 a solid year to allow custom buildings in the game, so we can only wait until MC gives us the tools to add them to our games.

Monte Cristo is working on finding a way for Solo Mode custom content but it is the third or fourth thing down on their list of priorities. First and foremost is to fix bugs, errors, and memory leaks. Second is to finish the bus system.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Hey guys,

we from CitiesXL.de (especially Okeanos, Nashville nelson, iamthemuffinman and pharmacist) developed some smaller mods which can be used in the singleplayer. They do not effect the multiplayer and can´t be misused.

Here a  "table of content" of our mods:

"Bulldozer Mod" - Provides three different sized bulldozers (not pubished yet)

" Ressource Count Dialog Mod" - Provides additional information about consumption/production amounts within the tooltip of the ressources

"Single Player Trade Mod" - More balanced prices for the single player trade with OmniCorp

""Snapping Streets Mod"" - Decreases the percentage of automatic snapping of streets when trying to build differents streets right next to each other

""Enlarging Terraforming-Tool Mod" - Allows to work on the terrain with a higher radius (not published yet)

If there is anybody hwo is able and willing tu support us via creating mods or design buildings (custom content beta started and some people got an "instrucion") - join us please! 4.gif

@Monte Cristo: Please make modding easier and distribute more instructions to competent people. Let´s get it started!

I forgot to say in my last post that MC will also be releasing tools to help with 3DS Max custom buildings. They will also release the coding for the tools so modders can create other tools to import/export other types of files from other programs (such as SketchUp, Rhino etc.). MC will also give you the option to submit your work for them so you can get official and professional help, though you don't have to, only if you really want to, otherwise you can just freely release it, just as long as it's not a cheat for the PO.

One of our designers in our internal modding-area got some instructions from MC how to create buildings for CXL. At the moment it is absolutely necessary to use 3DSmax. Moreover created buildings should not have more than 9.000 polygons.

In conclusion there are some restrictions designers need to be aware of...

We are going to check all those hints, tips and restrictions in the coming weeks. We might see some first tests with custom content pretty early - but this is pure speculation as our main designer is studying art and design at the moment so that he actually has not too much time left for CXL.

Indeed, we have provided a few users with some instructions on creating buildings. We are waiting for their feedback and we'll be collaborating with them to see how it all works out, what additional information or tools they might need and so on. Think of it as some alpha test on custom content.

As mentioned earlier too, we are in the process of updating how data is used by the game so the game can have a "MOD" folder where users can put their mods in without it interfering with the patching process or online play. I know it's "only words" for now, but it's going along well 4.gif
