I need help. I use to play this game for hours at a time with no problems and now the game crashes my pc, not to desktop but restarts it. I have patched it from the maxis site, still does it.

Here is my computer, it is not anything new and like I said it use to play no problem:

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Computer
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
1.79 GHz, 512 MB of Ram

Video Card:
RADEON 9200

XP is a fresh install as of yesterday, have taken all the updates from the microsoft site.

Running SC4 Deluxe Edition w/Rush Hour.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

No, it's a desktop pc. My vid card is even on the SC4 guarentees list, if that's what you call it.

Sometimes it crashes while playing. I noticed it always restarts pc when I shut down the game from the region view but if I shut down the game from within a city it shuts down properly.

This is really peeing me off!

Your computer may be overheating. A very common thing with AMDs and ATI. Be sure that your PC has good ventilation. If the PC is already old, you might want to take a look at its heatsink. You should also see if it "crashes" when you use other heavy applications.

What is wrong with using a laptop? I'm using one and it keeps crashing. I have a centrino 2 processor and 4GB RAM. It's a top of the range laptop. It crashes when I use certain plugins. Is it the plugins, the laptop or both?

The plugins are almost 100% the issue.. there is a very small possibility that you may have a driver issue on the video chips..

Do you have a lot of mods for SC4? I had the same problem, and now SC4 never crashes. This is what I did, and you should try it.

1-Clear out every mod and BAT that you don't or rarely use, if your like me, you should have cleaned out about halve of your mods and BATs

2-Organize your mods, textures, and BATs. Put them all in separate folders with only mods, textures, or BATs. Name your folders EXACTLY like this in your plugins folder (including the numbers).

    This should resolve your problems!

Laptops can overheat if demanding applications are run for a long time. Even though he doesn't have one, that's probably what's going on.

If it's overheating (not sure at all) you can test it.. be sure the vents on the bottom are clear (laptops vent usually through the bottom) .. put on something with holes.. ie a screen or even an inverted kitchen dish drain.. put a fan under it.. see it tht stops or increases the time before it craps out.. if it does then you probably know that's it.. if it doesn't it's something else

It is a lot easier to force an overheat and just see if it happens a lot sooner4.gif But a slight bit dangerous... In any case... If it as more than 5 months since the last time you cleared you ventilation fans, you should get on that asap2.gif Oh and if you do have a desktop pc, treat yourself to some water cooling2.gif
