Hello everyone,

I will fill in for today as our Mathew is sick in his bed. 15.gif

We have great news: we have just published a detailed outline of the first content pack. 39.gif

As you know most of it will include the medieval pack buildings (12 varied buildings, plus a ploppable plazza, and a matching cobblestone road) but it will also include new blueprints and new maps (and a couple other things we will announce shortly).

You can read the whole article, complete with screenshots here: http://www.citiesxl.com/content/view/1887/127/

The pack should be available sometime next week. 4.gif

Cool news, Thanks Gregory_C!

one question though (I don't have the game yet and was concerned about this so I thought I would ask), how can a player control what kinds of architecture pop up when doing the random zoning. most people are not going to want to see old English buildings mixed in with modern day stuff in a random fashion, and, I am sure that most people who like to randomly zone will not want to switch to pick-n-plop for the rest of their gaming experience. how are the new architectures kept separate from the standard types? this question also goes for the new stuff that is planned like "China Town" etc.

(edit)

I went the link and I guess there is going to be a new button for all the different types?  that could work I guess.  so are there any far future plans to add castles, or castle pieces for people to build their own medival cities?  12 is a decent start and they are all well done, but, you know people will want lots more 4.gif

(edit)

From the citiesxl.com post, that he linked: http://www.citiesxl.com/content/view/1887/127/?lang=en

"these residences will be accessible via a specific button"

Because this is the first pack we have kept it separate from the other buildings. It will appear under a separate category in the construction menu, and the buildings are not part of the selection when zoning. We will see if we keep this system or not with upcoming packs.

    Another question:

Since I don't have the game yet, will I be able to download this pack at a later time when I do have the game and PO? or are these content packs only for people that are subscribed at the time of its initial release?

These are only for people who payed for the Plant Offer. Anyways, it does LOOK good nevertheless.

Please keep the senseless arguments out of threads they aren't designated for.

    Looks nice.B)

But come on MC, please, sell it to us single players. We would be more than happy to pay more money for the extra content in single player. We really would. I would certainly pay for it. It would attract more customers, get you more money, and further advertise the PO. You can't simply reject this deal to sell the content packs to single players just like with the GEMs.2.gif

On this subject, I think that a really good idea would be to allow PO subscribers to use PO content packs in single player, as long as their subscription is active.

not sure if there is an answer to this.

Will acquired content packs be lost if you unsubscribe to PO?

To some of the above questions:

-If you sign up for the PO at a later date, you get access to ALL content packs previously released.

-If you cancel or let your PO account lapse, you will not be able to use content packs as they are only available while playing on the planet offer.

And Gregory, it all looks fantastic. I've been waiting for this update all week and it's just so damn awesome. <3

Question though!  About the new maps; will any of them be added onto the PO planets for use by new mayors?

How do you cancel the PO subscription.   I'd like to get my money back for the next two months.   MC has already refused my refund request?

Cancelling does not mean getting a refund.  You've already bought the time and had it allocated.

Cancelling means stopping the recurring payment mechanic.  Allowing it to lapse applies only if you don't use recurring payments.

Seriously?! This PO thing has really gotten annoying! The content pack was looking so good. And then, just like every other promise, they stuff it in the PO. Why am I not suprised.

Figures, oh well they can have my money this time because they won't be seeing it again.   Lesson learned!

For starters, Rush Hour cost you money to buy. And then all the 'additional content' that was fan made and therefore free. MC put time and effort into making the additional content for this game, and unlike fans of SC4, they own all of it and have a right to charge if they so please.

MC doesn't seem to want free custom content.  Also, keep in mind that while Rush Hour cost $20 (actually for many it was $10 after rebate) that once you bought it, you owned it.  Capping your total purchase at $50-70 bucks and you own the game, free and clear.

However with CXL you'll be past the $70 mark after buying the game and subscribing for half a year (at the lower price).  However, at that point you only own the crippled single player game and the moment you stop paying the CXL Planet "Offer" ransom you lose your additional content, your cities, and everything that you've paid for, including updates and the yet to be made mass transit.

Sounds like a raw deal to me.

So getting 12 buildings is costing you $6.25 a month or you can get a plethora of free content by allowing the fanbase to make more buildings.

Just as RSS334 said, their pricing scheme is going to be their downfall.

I see that mc has left out the poor no po players again and theyrefuse to answer my email about when they will put paypal on for where people who have use prepaid credit cards , to me I think they just do not care about the players who paid for their game who do not have a credit card.

I think that they should indeed allow content packs to be used in Solo Mode, for a small price for non subscribers and 35% less for Planet Offer subscribers.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

It would be great if MC compiled like 5 addon packs and just sold it as an expansion pack a little like what EA is doing with Sims.

I do play planet offer, but why can't content packs be in SP??? Why? It's unfair and taunting to people who can't afford PO. Imagine something that you really want... it's being advertised but you will never be able to have it, but you really want it. Basic example of what MC is doing to SP's. PLEASE LISTEN MC! PLEASE!!

Look, it may not seem like much to you but for other people, it is. Don't get mad at them. Besides, I know that everybody can afford it but some people don't want to avail of it because of some reason. Not for anything, but it's not you business if they don't want to avail of the service. That's their opinion and not yours. If you think its so cheap why don't you pay for everybody's PO offer.

I think the pack looks fantastic & I'm glad it's coming out soon (looking forward to using it in game).

I am not even remotely well off but I can afford the sub.

While I have no problem with PO now the additional content is turning up as promised, I do like to play offline sometimes & wish it could be made possible to use the new content for offline single player mode.

Seriously, if you arent looking for a city game that can be played in single  mode then CXL isnt for you. Thats so simple. Nothing to complain about. For the same reason you dont complain that BMW makes cars that are expensive to drive and maintain.

And I respect that you and others dont want to play online, but this IS a MMO, therefore I cant understand why people are so negative about the subscription and how much the subcription costs.

I can also understand that people feel tricked when they bought the game that they thought that they will be able to play the full in single mode since MC told us so before the release, but on the other hand you have 7 days refund, even if the game is bought and downloaded digitaly. At least if you are living in europe.

In worst case, people can just put it up on ebay and wait untill Maxis makes their move.
