I'm still going to get the game, as I have always valued the playability over graphics. Yes, they are about on par with the N64, but the lighting and effects are better.

Also, as for the lack of parkmaking, there is an option that isn't available in the demo(but you can see it there), but one which I'm looking forward to, and that is the Sandbox Mode: No limits, not constraints, just free park design. IMO, that will solve the monotony of the scenarios, which I still may play.

It seems a lot of people are willing to write off this game based off of the graphics, and that, to me, is a mistake. It is the lasting playability that drives a game's greatness (with a few exceptions: Halo, GTA, etc., that also excel in graphics), and there are so many games that push exceptional graphics but fail on the gameplay. Also, try this: In the demo, change the camera controls to Isometric, and then zoom to a level comparable to the closest zoom in RCT1&2. The differances aren't that great, and I'll take the variety of the peeps and the ability to get right up close to the action over the single multi-color peep and single view type any day.
Still, there are problems with the demo, and hopefully they'll fix them before the final game.

One thing that I can't pass up, and would almost purchase the game just for this, is that I've found on the offical site that we'll be able to IMPORT coasters from RCT2 into the game, and there are some I've made that I've been dying to ride.

The biggest problem I've seen? I want the different cameras; Normal(best for surveying), Isometric(best for ride construction), and Flying(best for experiencing the park), to be easier to switch between, and add a 1st person camera for any individual in the park.

The last thing that I found that may help those who've been disilluisoned by the demo, is that I think the graphical settings and quality are automatically set by the game based on your system. You may want to check the settings, increasing them all the way and then comparing them.

P.S. - Yes, the water tool took some getting used to, I sunk the Inverted too. Also I found that we're no longer able to drown the peeps, which is definately a downside.

Horrible. The building tools are terrible. RCT/RCT2 gave you so much more freedom/control.

Too scenario oriented. 34.gif

“The American city should be a collection of communities where every member has a right to belong. It should be a place where every man feels safe on his streets and in the house of his friends. It should be a place where each individual's dignity and self-respect is strengthened by the respect and affection of his neighbors. It should be a place where each of us can find the satisfaction and warmth which comes from being a member of the community of man. This is what man sought at the dawn of civilization. It is what we seek today.”

Unless Gamestop lied to me, I should picking up my copy today.  Let's hope they're not a bunch of lying liars that lie. 21.gif

My brain tingles just thinking about it. 3.gif

Cool, i forgot all about that game.  I think I'm going to wait for the price to drop before I get it.  I got lots to do now and I'm also planning on getting the Nintendo DS, so that will set me back a couple hundred with a game.

I've got the game!  17.gifGame Stop where I am called and said my pre-order was ready, and now I have it nearly a week early!

Yes, there are bugs, but the reviewers at IGN (8.5!!! Yay!) have assured that Frontier knows this and will have an update soon after the official release this Tuesday.  The downside that is most apparent so far is the lack of summarized peep thoughts and certain important keyboard shortcuts.  Oh well...

Issues aside, I recommend this game with all my heart to anyone enjoys simulation building games (that should be everyone here), and to everyone who even remotely enjoys theme parks.

(I can't wait to drop VIPeep Clint Bushton off a cliff into the water, even if it won't kill him11.gif.)

So far, the game is great, even with the 3 desktop crashes, particularly when placing water.  I find it more difficult to control at the moment, but I'll get used to the controls in no time.  The peep thing isn't going to help me out.  I relied on that feature quite a bit.

The selection of rides is just astounding.  So much variety, plus you can ride them all.  The CoasterCam isn't just for coasters. 9.gif The graphics are better than expected, especially the lighting, and I really enjoy the landscape options, especially their water tool, much better than the previous versions.  Heh, you can create lakes on hills if you'd like.  Try that, SimCity! 3.gif

I haven't attempted the fireworks show, but as soon as I get the Prima guide, I'll give it a shot.

So far, I give it 4 bunnies out of 5. 35.gif35.gif35.gif35.gif

Is this game out yet? I loved the first 2 versions. I think it will be neat finally being able to ride the rollercoasters. I'm not sure about the graphics though. They look a little chessy to me. I hope they don't screw this game up because of the graphics because the first 2 were great.

I really want to get this game. I'm not too happy about changing the interface from those panels to the little thing at the bottom of the screen, but I do like being able to ride the coasters and have varied peeps who travel in groups. I think there's enough new content to justify buying this new game. Anyone who has it, how does the ride/theming/stalls selection compare to RCT without any of the expansions?

I think I'll treat myself to this game after my test and essay are done with. I don't need the temptation of having it here :)

The theming is pretty scarce, only 4 plus the standard, but within those themes the selection of objects is fairly extensive.  Coasters, rides, and stalls are very thorough, surpassing even the fully expanded RCT2, I think.  I've spent the past week learning and experimenting with the game, but there are a large number of bugs that need to be fixed before I attempt to play the scenarios.

The update should be, maybe, hopefully will be out Wednesday.  I hope it takes care of some the major issues.

Right now, I'm only experimenting with the new coasters and rides, and trying to get the hang of pathbuilding and the new ride physics.

Troggle, I recommend buying the game.  Like LightWarrior said, there's only a few themes, but the ride selection is larger than the previous RCT.  There are 80 rides, not including roller coasters (a few rides are duplicates, since a few rides go with the different theme styles).  You have more control of the food and drink stalls, as well as the shops.  You can control the amount of ice in a drink, or lemon, or which drinks to serve.

I've pretty much regressed to building coasters and fireworks displays until some of the bugs have been fixed, and there's a lot of them.  You know a game has been released too early when the patch has a beta test! 21.gif  Trust me, this game is fantastic, and I can't go back to playing the old ones, there's just things that need fixing first.

On the bright side, the rumor is that Frontier is going to set up a Gmax plugin at some point so that users can create their own props and prop families!  If they include the animatronic abilities in this, maybe that'll open the door for some of our SC4 modders to figure out how to incorporate this?

It's pretty hillarious, though, setting up a coaster to derail and slide down a footpath wiping out all the peeps on it, even if they don't die.11.gif

....*sigh* I do miss slaughtering the peeps....

When they fix the bugs then the game will be awsome, but for now the game is kinda unplayable 7.gif

The peeps wont even visit free rides that has good stats and they're walking next to the entrence 23.gif

And with the patch (currently in beta) they added the feature for staff to become too bored so they quit their job, which happens often AFAIK 14.gif26.gif42.gif

I have the game now and I like it so far!!  It's running great and I have not encountered much bugs so far... No crashes either. It's great to ride your own coasters, the game offers a lot of chances to build your own great park from scratch and this will not bore me for a while... I think I'll wait a bit before I start to play a scenario. I made a cool landscape with hills... and some water.

I think the small problems I've found can be solved in a patch... One time I build a wooden rollercoaster, and just before the track reached the station my train was driving through bars and supports from the track above 6.gif Normally you have to see an open space... One other complaint is the difficulty to build paths on hilly terrain...

I agree with your first issue...ride paths can't intersect each other, but rides with heavy supports (such as the Wooden) don't seem to have a problem with getting in the way.  There's a patch coming out Friday, supposedly, but with the number of reported major bugs so far I don't think this will be fixed yet.

The problem of path creation is a tricky one, and took me some time to get used to.  Basically, you use the Level Terrain to Building Increment tool where you want to start the path, and then use the Terrian Editor by Building Increment tool in order to deform the landscape for a path.  The easier way is to use path supports and hug the terrain as best you can; terrain editing gets expensive!  Use the first tool stated to finish it off.  (The tool names are an approximation, I'm not at my home 'puter)  I hope this helps!

I haven't been playing that much the past few days, but I do know the official update is available.  Have they fixed all the major bugs or are there still issues with the game?

There are still some bugs, most notably with group AI.  There's simply too much of peeps standing around doing NOTHING, or, as one forumer has coined, WAEVing (Waiting At Extreme Velocity) which is wating for group while sprinting arcoss the park and leaving them behind.  The official forums are keeping pretty good track of what's been fixed and what still needs working on, both with bugs and suggestions. http://www.ataricommunity.com/forums/showthread.php?s=bae31fa8ab5eb71089ef0aa1181f0e3b&threadid=425522
