I was reading the Chicago Sun Times (they're still in business??) today and an article stated Facebook has around 300 million active users for the US. That's almost the entire population... Is almost every American really on FB? 41.gif I guess that's ture as the fastest growing demographic for the site is users 35 and older.

So, are you on Facebook?

BTW, I'm on FB but deleted my account after all the privacy issues and I recently re-registered again. I would show you my page but there's nothing much there (for now) Feel free to send me a freind request if you want.

I'm pretty sure there might already be a thread pertaining to Facebook. However, yea a lot of people not just in America but worldwide are using Facebook. Facebook has surpassed Myspace I believe as the most widely used social networking site.

I use facebook daily. It helps me keep in touch with my friends and organize stuff  like jam sessions and parties. Quite the convenient tool for a young adult. 19.gif

That is incorrect.  Facebook has 300 million active users worldwide.  Think about it for a second; 300 million Americans with a Facebook account would require that everyone over the age of 1 year old be registered with Facebook.  There is no way that is true.

It was like an avalanche of old friends finding me on facebook. I had the page for almost a year with only a handful of friends, then someone found me and, like I said, avalanche.

Except I'm even worse. I leave unannounced, I don't turn my cellphone on, I don't provide any indication of when to expect me home beforehand, and I spontaneously decide to stay out later than I originally planned without calling home to inform anyone. It drives my mother nuts. 21.gif

And when I get calls from people saying "I'll be home late", or "I'm on my way", I get annoyed that I was interrupted in the middle of what I was doing and made to get up off my ass and answer the phone just so they could tell me that. People seem to consider it a sort of courtesy, for reasons which are beyond me. So far as I'm concerned, the courteous thing to do is not bother me with your idle chatter. You'll get home when you get home. I don't need to know in advance when to expact you. It's not really my business what you're doing, you're not my responsibility, and I'm not specifically waiting for you for anything. So stop wasting my time with pointless unncessary phone calls.

I'm the same way.19.gif  I don't like being bothered with trivial chit-chat nonsense when I'm at home [i don't have a cell, don't see the need to pay for two phone services] and there are times when I want to be alone that I won't even answer the phone [i have caller ID so I know who's calling].  It's funny how many times the phone will ring when you don't answer it.

Why sure, I am on Facebook. And, Twitter, Fubar, My Yearbook, My Space, BlogSpot, Mixposure, LastFM, Jango, Imeem, ILike and.......I can keep going here. Heheee.

If you like finding new music, The CrybKeeper is on top of that. Our bands are successfully in rotation at over 100 radio stations in the USA. That makes social sites such as Facebook a valuable tool and a necessity.

Still living in the basement, eh?    Just kidding!

I don't use Facebook or MySpace.  I guess I just don't understand the need.  I have a phone, I have email, and I have physical interaction.  Why would I actually want to LOSE TIME updating crap that does not matter to me?

Totally. It was very pleasant for me to locate and speak with old friends after so many years apart, but I have no need to speak with them everyday. I'm not one of those people who visits and updates facebook daily. Once a month is good for me. It is very handy for keeping in touch with my cousins, of which I have many, and they are all in either New York or southern California. I hardly ever see them so facebook is the answer. As far as my friends go... my closest friends I see in real life. Everyone else... well, I may want to invite these people to my wedding some day (some of them), or maybe give them a visit if I'm ever in their neck of the woods, so keeping in touch is good.

I use facebook but all my friends are people I know in person.

I try to keep my forum identity kind of separate, I say "kind" of because I have friends who visit this site and they know who I am. But I'm not going to make my identity obvious even though it practically is if you were clever 2.gif

I've never used Myspace or other social networking sites, Facebook seems to be the most universal one these days except for bands and other stuff that's on Myspace.

There isn't 300,000,000 users in the USA alone, that is the figure for the entire world, though its near 400,000,000 now and will probably reach 500m by 2010. It is now 4 times as popular as MySpace and a billion dollar company.

I don't really understand the militant opposition to facebook... i mean, its not like its a mandatory service that you must sign up for. I don't get angry over voluntary stuff... just seems pretty silly. Personally, I like using facebook and it makes organizing group gatherings a hell of a lot easier than calling or emailing, especially if you don't want everyone to have your email (although I have mine public so thats a moot point). I like communicating via facebook because it only takes a couple seconds and I don't need or anticipate an immediate response. Plus, with a good chunk of my friends being overseas, I don't have to spend money calling them and email can sometimes be a bit slow... (isn't that sad.... email being slow?).

Regarding phone calls... if you don't want texts or phonecalls at any given time of the waking day... then why did you get a cell phone? Again... voluntary. Personally, I like when people tell me that they are heading over or will be coming home late. Thats COMMON COURTESY, something I feel this world has lost quite a bit of. I hate when my friends are late and they don't tell me, its very frustrating. I'm guessing Duke that you never have to cook a meal for someone. When you do, timing is quite important if you wanna serve something thats half way decent and not microwaveable. Of course, I'm guessing you're the person probably running late so you don't find it a big inconvenience. Look at it this way... why am I not important enough to be informed if you're gonna be late? I have my own life too and I'd rather not be sitting by idly if I can find something to do for the given time.

Agreed. People who haven't really gave Facebook or My Space a chance, may not see what they are missing.

Seriously, if it wasn't for social nets, I would not have made so many contacts in the music biz.

And, if you are picked to host a class reunion for example, these type sites will save you so much time finding and inviting alumni. You could use a site like Classmates.com, but honestly, you will find ten times more classmates at social nets.

Currently, we are having a ball, at music communities such as LastFM and Jango.

I'm there, somewhere. I'm really not that hard to find either, but it doesn't hold that much apeal to me.

I still think myspace was better, and more versatile. The pervs and little kids ruined it. Facebook will soon be forgotten in favor of the next fad site.

Myspace was ruined because of idiots who thought it would be a good idea to abuse the hell out of CSS and create the most horrible, unholy webpages that made Geocities websites look professional.

I was tempted to make a profile page on Myspace that was entirely black, including the text. That'll show em.

I have Facebook, myself. My profile is locked down so only friends can view it. Done for privacy reasons.

I'm on FB, but I hate it. My friends (friends?) use it to subscribe to strange groups (and I don't like to see all those mad groups) or post political-realted videos. Stupid site, stupid friends!

I'm on it only because it was the only way to contact a person that haven't got a true e-mail account (he never see his mails), the last time I opened that page was two or three months ago!

I don't have one, and will never get one. I've seen what its done to people...they do nothing but update their status and wait for someone to comment...not unlike me on the Forum Games, but its in a different light. When a girl in an AP class risks having a midterm thrown out by checking her Facebook page in the middle of the test, thats obsessive.
