So, what are those points for?

As the mouseover text states, "Points are based on your contributions to Simtropolis". How exactly they are calculated is secret, but there is both speculation and discussion of the matter in this thread. As for what they're good for... nothing, just bragging rights. And there is no way for other people to know how many points you have unless you tell them.

Original post is below the line...

Those of you who are observant may have noticed a slight change in your dashboard:

It would appear that the previous idea of a textual statement indicating what kind of standing a member is in has been replaced with an actual point based warning system. It's nothing unusual, a lot of fora do it.

What is unusual, however, is that there is no explanation given as to how the point system works (at least that I've seen). A rundown of what range of points an offense may earn you, and at what threshold certain penalties may be incurred.

Is anything like that forthcoming or is it just another Simtropolis mystery? 38.gif

Disregard that. Points are a score of good things, not bad things, it turns out.

Okay, that's confusing. It's right next to the  "member in good standing" smiley face. Looks like it wants to be associated with it.

So then I suppose no explanation of how it works is forthcoming, huh.

Do the points even mean anything, though? Do you earn things for having points or something?

i think its something to do with the commenting the buildings you people make, and others that like your comment give you more points.

     Groan....45.gif

I wouldn't be opposed to this, but a few months ago another website I visited installed a thumbs up/thumbs down per post. And because the members are somewhat bitter and/or my ideas are unpopular and/or someone's out to spite me, my rep plummeted to -14 in the first week (I now stand at the site's lowest, at -170) 30.gif

So, can we raise/lower karma in the future?

I am positive that Ernie's skin was grey, and rubber ducky was not yellow... at least when I watched Seseme Street in '72...

Ah sweet nostalgia, when Cookie Monster could eat all the cookies he wanted without them being considered a 'sometimes' food...
