Massive amounts of water pollution [SOLVED]

Hi all,

I have a pair of fresh cities, one with 70,000 people on the water with no ports (yet) and one with 20,000 people on a different body of water with both a seaport and a ferry terminal. The smaller one also has a wave of medium density industrial up the coast, which generates a large amount of water pollution. So much, in fact, that one of the inlets is black sludge.

How do I remove the effects of water pollution yet still keeping the industries and the population that's formed becuase of them?

Thanks,

--Troy

Water Treatment Plant found in the water utilities menu (standard Maxis item). Also there's a one-tile thingy on the STEX that wipes out water pollution at farms, I use it but I forget what it's called. Try searching the STEX for "pollution".

Thanks, I've been planting those in like crazy. They do seem to work a bit, but I guess I'll have to progress another year or so to see how it goes.

    Cheers,

If you are really desperate i would try the reverse osmosis plant in the STEX works wonders but if you want to create a legit city in which you can say that you paid for everything then i would look elsewhere.

I try to zone industry away from the coast so I don't get the black look in region view

Just an annotation - make sure to connect the water treatment facility to your pipelines, not just place it. The farm-specific utility mentioned by zurrabaer is called NEXIS Farm Water Purifier.

There are plenty of water and air purification downloads on the STEX. Just search for "purification". Alternativly, you could make your own with the Lot Editor and Plugin Manager.

Thanks for the info, folks. I've just been using the usual water treatment plants (they're expensive when you get a whole whack of them, but it's completely worth it!) and the "sludge" is gone! Woohoo!

I find, if you remove air pollution, you remove water pollution. Sooo try to reduce air pollution by either:-

    1. have high tech industry

    2. use an air purifier

Choice is yours, i personally would have both :-P

Finds some ploppable trees and plop them around the pollution source (Landfill, airport, industry).

Happy to be of service.  I have noted that those farm anti-pollutant devices wear out a LOT quicker than, say, the average water pump.  So you might want to re-check water pollution on the map periodically.
