I live in colorado springs and there is only 3 10 story buildings out of 360,000 people!

However a city like vancouver (500,000 people) has more than 400 Skyskrapers!
More than chicago and almost as many as newyork[/quoteMESSAGE][/bEGINQUOTE]

Vancouver metro area is 2 million plus. Calgary is a city of 1,000,000 and has 200+ skyscrapers.

/offtopic[/quoteMESSAGE][/bEGINQUOTE]

i am talking about the city limits, colorado springs has 500,000 if you include the burbs, but 2,000,000 isn't alot when you compare it to cities like new york which hacve 10 million with the same amount of skyskrapers.

how about this, myrtle beach (22,000) has more skyskrapers than denver (2 million) with 61, denver has 60. most of those are roller coasters of course. and canada has over 3600 skyskrapers out of 25 million people !

Colorado Springs according the the US census for 2000 has  499,995 for the metro area. 2 million is more like the population of colorado itself. New York Metro area is 20,156,000. Just thought I'd mention that. Anyway this is a bit too off topic lol.

Actually whiteshark, colorado has 4 million people and denver alone has 2 million, NYC has 14 million (not 20 million) 19 million people live in NY State. and colorado springs is not as big as you say it is. Wherever you got that information it is probably not a credible source, i'll double check, but i am pretty sure that is what it is

I live in the L.A. metro area, which is just over 11 million people (The city alone is nearly 4 million). Los Angeles is very prone to earthquakes which makes us not very skyscraper friendly. In addition, I do belive that we have height limits here as well (The tallest building in L.A. is the Library Tower, topping at out at 1017, which also happens to be the tallest building west of Chicago and east of Hong Kong. Built in 1989 at a cost of 350 million it would make a good BAT project). Anyway, I don't suggest that you build way too many skyscrapers in Crystal Junction due to the fact that it is located in an extremly hot and somewahat undesriable desert location. Besides, have you ever seen a desert city with 50-60 skyscrapers? I sure haven't, though Vegas has a quite a few skyscraper hotels. Good luck!

Answers to questions and update status.

As far as constructing any skyscrappers, it will probably be a while, I want this city to grow realisticly, so it might not be until 150 to 200k before any smal sky scrappers are constructed.

There are probably going to be some more towns developed along the freeways as the region develops.

As far as my source for the populations, the one about 2 million for co was more of a rough guess then something I looked up, so it probably is wrong. As far as where I got the information about the population for the metro areas of new york and colorado springs, I got them directly off of the US CENSUS 2000 web site.

Update. I've been busy with freinds over the weekend so it might not be until either tomorrow or monday before I post another update.

WhiteShark, make sure you download the new Food Lion supermarket for your cities. It may help you make them even more realistic, considering that itis the first BAT supermarket. and in response to an earlier post, if I were young and still fresh, I might be able to live for awhile in Crystal Junction, but if I was say, 85 years old, I would probably want to move somewhere cool. At my school in Southern California, we run the mile every Wedensday (Even in the heat that we get sometimes) and kids are always getting hurt or sick one way or another. Can you imagine the poor kids in Crystal Junction runing the mile? Wow! It scares me just to think about it.

City Update 13 (On The Verge of a City):

Crystal Junction continues to undergo extensive expansion all across the region. The town has been expanding in all directions outward, even in the south and southwest. The overall population is almost 90,000 for Crystal Junction, and already a new town was founded to the south. Maplewood Village has started to undergo industrial and residential expansion, as well as the newly founded town of Madrid. Both of the small towns have a population of about 600. With the completion of Freeway 348, southward development increased by a factor of nearly 5, with almost 8,000 residents living south of the Crystal River now. Downtown hasnt changed by much, with only some medium density consutrction, mainly because the commercial sector has expanded by nearly 2 miles to the west, providing a relief to new jobs, rather then requiring larger buildings to be built. The south industrial sector has also expanded as well, along with the mass transit systems across the town.

There are plans for a small interregional airport to be constructed out west, but so far they are only in the conception stage, other plans include expanding medium density residental zoing to the north and east of downtown, but those are also just on the conception stage.

Hey WhiteShark, I was wondering if you use any mods for job demand? Do the Sims complain about their commute at all? BTW-I love the new residential areas to the south of your industry.

jcab, there is more to a city than a downtown. nothing personal, but there is really no point in coming into every city and asking for a downtown. they will release the downtown when they are ready to.

i love your cities, and your downtowns are awesome, but still....

I use the deseriablity mod to control the growth of businesses, industries, and homes. It reduces the rate of building abandonment and creates a more realistic growth for the town.

Whiteshark, the mines are a brillant touch!!! I was going to ask you about the rock textures you have in your region. What modpack gave you those unique realistic textures? I know PEG has a mod out but I wasn't sure if it was that one or another.

    Thanks,
