Yeah, I really love this type of City Journal. I can always look at page 1 and see what it used to be like.

Here are a few graphics I made for the city. After seeing multiple people put maps and highway signs so I decided to give a try at them myself. I do most all my designing in AutoCAD Map 5.

Here is an updated map showing all the Freeways and Regional Routes.
    /idealbb/files/City
Here is my first try at a Freeway Sign. Its for Freeway 48/11 heading East right after First Rd before Freeway 11 splits off South.

I'll be trying to post some more graphics updates like these in the future.

You can get autocad lt, which does the same thing from most comp stores, but it costs a bit of money, or you could try using kazza.

I'll also be posting some more downtown signs from off of Freeway 48 11 and the combo of the two tomorrow evening probably. Even tho tomorrow is a busy day for me.

I have been following this journal from the start, and I must say you are doing a very nice job! I love the way it is all developping. It's because I'm too unpatient, or else I would have built my cities the same way you do!

Great job with the signs! They look pretty nice. I can't wait for the next newspaper!

EDIT: Is it OK if I do this type of thing for my CJ, giving you all due credit?

The highway signs and city maps arent my idea, i got the ideas from other journal posters. The two ideas I think would make most city journals seem more realistic. Feel free to go ahead and use them.

This Cj is really cool, where did you get the highway sign idea from?
One reason I think this CJ is the best is that theres always an update when I log on

I'll be posting another update sometime later on today. I have a general question for people as well. I know I've already posted this on the bugs fourm, but figured I'd also post it here. Doesnt anyone know how to reset the date of a city back to 01/01/00. I am wondering this because I want to see if the date being reset will eliminate a transportation commute bug.

City Update 11: (Ever Expanding Town)

Crystal Junction has continued to increase in both size and town spread. In recent years the rate of town growth has peaked to almost a thousand new residents each year. The town has been expanding primarily in the north and west. Most of the land up until the Outer Belt has been zonning, extensive avenue systems as well as bus systems have been constructed. A northern rail system with the Crystal Line opening a whole new series of stations on the north side of town has been constructed.

Overall the town has reached a population of 50,000. Growth in the size of the towns industrial and commercial sectors is almost as large with almost 19,000 commercial jobs and 12,000 industrial jobs being provided to the town, not to mention nearly 2,000 civic service jobs in addition to that. The town at its current rate of growth is expected to reach 75,000 within fifteen years.

I was wondering the same thing. Where did it go or is it outside the photo? (After reviewing the map I think it is)

The small town of sandy right to the northwest is still there, it just isnt in the photo. I wanted to zoom in close on Crystal Junction. There were also be a couple of other small towns as well developing.

WOW! I'll say it again, this is my favorite City Journal! Do you think the Chronicles will give a report on the new train stations to the north?

I just can't get over the pictures where you can see the city sprawl on the desert bed. Absolutely stunning.

One of my favorite CJ's, keep it up.

Great city journal! I have been following this journal almost since you started it (I'm kinda quiet though). Just a tip, if you want to make a real attractive freeway sign, you should try the wonderful design tool, Sign Maker, available on this website: http://www.kurumi.com/roads/signmaker/signmaker.html which uses Java to create a very realistic looking freeway sign. I hope that helps you! Have a nice weekend! 1.gif
