Wow, this is by far the coolest city journal and has got me thinking I might start a whole new region and follow. If I do though it'll be hard to walk away from my only region, Rockport which is probably 60% filled out now and has 3.5 million residents.

    City Update 8:

Crystal Junction has in recent years started to expand outward at an ever increasing pace. The reconstruction of downtown which resulted in a small drop in the towns population has now produced a sudden rise. Local businesses are providing over 11,500 jobs and local industries over 8,400 jobs. The town has breached the 30,000 mark, and is expected to hit 50,000 within less then 25 years. The regional population combined with the slowly growing town of Sandy Ridge to the Northwest is arround 33,000.

Man if you continue this urban sprawl thing it will look totally awsome. I was wondering if you should only have 1 downtown then expand around the city in burbs untill you get to at least 1,000,000. That would be awsome!

Unlike my previous region of Ridge Point which was really a dual city with two distinct downtowns, this city is only going to have one primary downtown. Other downtown areas will not include many if any skyscrappers at all. I am planning on a total population of 1.9 million for the region. The downtown is going to be very compact and dense. As far as my plans for when I am going to build skyscrappers, it may be a while. The population at least needs to be for Crystal Junction itself arround 125,000 before I do any high density zoning.

    EDIT:

I'll try and post regular updates at least once or twice a day, seeing that I now have a lot more time on my hands. Tomorrow will be the next one.

Till then thank you everyone for your compliments.

Sandy Ridge won't have it's own city journal, but it will have it's own news paper within this city journal.

Right now there isnt an airport to Sandy Ridge, the only way to get there is to take the highway or route 511 from Crystal Junction. As Sandy Ridge grows it might have an airport arround 4,000 or so residents.

    Update 9: Large Town Expansion

Crystal Junction has expanded considerably in recent yeats, both in residential population and in commercial growth. The town has reached a population of roughly 35,000 with two distinct downtown districts within its city limits. The oldest and origional downtown is located at the junction of Freeways 48 and 11, and the newer downtown is located along W. Seventh St and Freeway 48/11 intersection. The two downtowns are seperated only by the erroded Flat Spire. The town itself has generated roughly 14,300 commercial jobs. Industrial growth however has peaked off arround 8,300 jobs. Industrial growth is at a point where no additional jobs are being created, but dirty and manufacturing industry is slowing being converted into high tech industry. The annexxed land to the west is where the new growth is occuring in both residential and commercial areas. The town is expected to hit 40,000 within 10 years.

As you can see from the transportation view, the town is constructing an extensive system of avenues, primarily in the downtown areas, but outer areas are starting to see avenue projects cropping up.

As always I'd appreciate any comments, positive or negative.

All of the city updates will be done in color. The newspaper ones however are in black in white, unless it is something like a graph view which doesnt show up well in black and white. I try and post city updates every other day or so, or after something signifficant occurrs such as a rapid jump in population. The black and white photos are such because a lot of older newspapers, and small town papers generally have photos done without color. Once the city starts getting a massive population, like say above half a million or so, I might start doing the newspapers with some color.

    City Update 10:

Crystal Junction has been growing at a steady pace in late years. The town has already breached the 40,000 mark. Growth has been concentrated to the northeast and west. These areas have had massive housing and commerical/ industrial growth in them. Industrial growth has started to pick up lately from the earily leveling off. There are near 10,600 industrial jobs being provided to the town and a massive 16,000 commerical jobs being offered. The downtown area continues to densify and expand westward as commercial demand increases. Locally there are city plans calling for an extended avenue project to occur in the north and east areas of town, but that will be discusses in greater detail in he chronicles.

Thats so completley excellent. Its really awsome how you actually showed the birth and growth of your city, rather than the finished product. Best showcasing of talent I have come by in a long time, walk tall.22.gif16.gif

Thanks for the comment. I am trying with this town to show almost every aspect of its growth as it develops from a small desert town to a massive city. My first city journal was the final product first and the other two didnt really do much beyond several posts about population updates. This one i wanted to be much more interactive and more creative. Not to mention I am naming every aspect of the town.
