Zoning

Is there a way to position zones the way I want them, sometimes the game won't let me.

For example if the zone would face the smaller street it always puts itself towards the larger street.

Even if that meant that some of the properties of the zone don't have road accsess.

Is there a buton I can press besides Ctrl or shift, or a mod that changes it?

Right now I always have to knock down parts of roads, lay the zone, and rebuild them.

Keep going, you are almost there!

Give up? Its Alt

It will change the direction of the zone to face another perpendicular street, but it wont rotate the whole lot like home and end do for plopable buildings.

That's great! I wish I had known earlier.

    Thank you so much!

Edit: I wander what else I don't know.

Is there a collection of gameplay tipps somewhere?

Another thing that annoys me about zones is that I don't know how deep to lay them.

Residential seems to only go 3 deep, while commercial can go 4 deep if at least medium density.

Somehow the lot size that the game wants to put out seems to change, in the beginning it's 1x3, later it's 3x3.

desirability I think plays a role in the size of zone that the simulator decides is appropriate. you can make a zone as big as you want if you hit ctrl while laying it though.

Yes, that desirability plays into it seems reasonable.

So is there a way to find out what size the buildings in the game are?

I think they go as far as 6x6.

The size of the zone depends on when your city is ready for bigger buildings. For example, a city of, say, 10,000 would have smaller zone sizes than a city of 100,000. The biggest skyscrapers usually are 4x3 or 4x4. The biggest in terms of ground area are 5x5 or 6x6. I think the only 6x6 building in the game is "Andrew's Fashion Center", but i'd have to check on that. Some BATs are bigger, though, such as Library Tower, which is 6x7.

I still can't turn that zone so it will face the street like the other ones, it only faces the avenue, even pressing Alt.

I have to knock down and rebuild the avenue to make my zoning.

Yes, avenues have a higher 'priority' (if you want to call it that) than streets. And even 'alt' won't rotate zones 90°. So you will have to demolish the section of the avenue that is touching the zone section you want to place.

Which is super annoying if what I'd have to demolish is a 60.000 bridge or some highway piece.

    Any other way?

Try using a combo of alt, shift, and ctrl, or use all three. That sometimes works for me, and it is espeacialy useful when zoning on diagonal streets.

yeah... I don't like that either.

if possible, you may be able to make the road your zoning off of an avenue, then zone. but that wont be too useful most of the time. I hate that 15.gif

its probably best to plan your areas, that way, you can make the neighborhoods ahead of time, but that "Unnatural."

I hope that this helps. 4.gif
