Well I just recently found this post.  I normally just don't put myself out there.  However, since many of you have, I think I might offer up some part of who I am.

I am Gay.  I am 21 and am currently Single!

I know, but have you seen the gaps in between the posts?? (Apart from ours I mean 3.gif). Once everyone's come out, there really isn't much left to do. That was the initial purpose of the thread after all.

Agreed.

Furthermore, I believe that this thread is also good to make some new members feel more welcome.

Just shows that we have built a diverse, accepting community here. After all, that's what I look for when I shop for an apartment. Why not a forum I visit regularly?

ISF

P.S. gggg, who knows how many of us LGBT are here? I'm certain only a handful have actually posted here.

Gay news update3.gif

Well, it's related..

The title was Teachers get Diversity training (it didn't copy, for some reason)

Teachers in the Lakehead Public School Board will soon be given special training on how to handle 'homophobic' behaviour among students. The move is one of the conditions of a settlement reached today between the school board and a former student who filed a complaint with the Ontario Human Rights Commission.

The complaint was filed last year by former Hillcrest High School student Gabriel Picard. In a news conference at the time, Picard said he was the target of homophobic slurs. The students involved were disciplined. But Picard filed a human rights complaint when the school board took no action to try and prevent future incidents. In addition to the new training for teachers, the Lakehead School Board has agreed to implement a new homophobic harassment prevention policy. That was Picard's stated goal all along.

The effectiveness of the new policies and training will be monitored and reviewed by the school board's Diversity Committee.

I kinda know the guy it mentions. I figure he's bisexual. He's not gay but not straight either. It's a step forward, considering they're actually acknowledging the fact now.

We can have a thread about gay people - a virtual gay community, if you will - without having any major disputes over the morality ofit.

Simtropolis is like a large metropolitain city. It has many districts mainly populated by minorities. Thereareso many of us here, we have to get along. In a smaller community, for example, Thunder Bay, if a part of the communitywas established as the gay district, we'd probably break down into civil war. When this thread was made, no one reallycame in and started threatening to kill us, so it shows that ST is a civilised metropolis, as opposed to a dumpy northern town44.gif

I think that was kind of the point. ST is civilised in that it (death threats) might hold true in real life, but not on ST. 3.gif

But then, you make a good point.... ST is real life. 47.gif

It's good that we have this thread. I'll bet that 5 years ago, it wouldn't have been sustainable.

    Indeed you have.

It was true then, and it's true now.

Some forums are downright virulent; using the topic as nothing more of denoting another person's weaknesses, or as a simple form of cruelty and insult.

At least it's not like that here. 1.gif

Sometimes it seems like the moderators use a somewhat heavy hand in enforcing the rules, but it's that vigilance that makes a thread like this possible. On lots of other boards there would be a really nasty flame war going on if anyone tried to start a thread like this.

So kudos to the mods for creating a really great community and thanks to all the folks who have contributed to this discussion. This is one of the threads that I regularly come back to 44.gif

Someone (sorry, I don't remember who) was talking about bumping this thread regularly because it's so welcoming for LGBT members - maybe we can get a mod to make this thing sticky?

That was M6Ash. I think the moderators are interested in making sure this thread stays open so that we don't start clogging up the Post your picture here thread again. 17.gif

I know it's been a while since anyone posted in here, but... Yay!

There are only two gay people in my entire school (that are open, anyway), and one of them just got elected into Student Government!

I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but to me it is, especially after hearing all of the horrible things everyone would say about him during the class. Faggot, and whatnot. 21.gif

Anyway, just wanted to say that despite most of the male population hating his guts, he still got elected! Yay for him.

Oh, and I also got an award for writing the best essays and reports and whatnot in my class. w00t for me. Haha, people were even boo'ing me as I went up to get my award. Once again, faggot, homo and the like were uttered in my general direction.

Okay, that's my little update! Hope you're all having a good one out there in RL.

    ~Jamie~

    P.S. *Bump!*

The earlier you come out the easier. People just accept it as part of you and by the time your 20 you can easily say to strangers He's my boyfriend or I don't have a girlfriend Im gay
