(CNN) -- Entertainer Michael Jackson was taken to a hospital on Thursday, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department official. A Los Angeles fire official told CNN that paramedics arrived at Michael Jackson's home after a 911 call.

Fire Capt. Steve Ruda told CNN a 911 call came in from a west Los Angeles residence at 12:21 p.m. and the patient was treated and transferred to the UCLA Medical Center.

Asked specifics of the patient's condition, the spokesman said he could not discuss them because of federal privacy laws.

I almost had a heart attack myself reading the story, he was such a great musician. It sucks, AP has declared him dead at 6:30pm EDT (about 15 minutes ago). I'm watching the story on the news, but it's not looking good.

He would have been 51 this August.

when i first saw that he had been hospitalized, I thought nothing of it because it sounded pretty normal. I thought it was just some smaller thing, but when one of my friends posted something on facebook about Farrah and Michael dying I was shell shocked.

People who are younger than I am just aren't supposed to die from cardiac failure.   That's just not right.

He was onstage long before Thriller.    He was about 10 or 11 when he was front and center singing as part of the Jackson 5.

 

I grew up on Motown.  That was back when people actually sang.
