What about making a boulevard? or would that be to hard...  im thinking of making it 3 lanes instead of the 2 laned Ave. So all together there will be 6 lanes! what do you think?

Three lanes need exactly the space of one tile. On avenues, there is space for something else in the middle (parks, banks, trees etc.)

Three-laned avenues may just look like (black) ground highways then.

The entire driving area isn't 3 lanes, but once you apply the most recent NAM and use the turning lane MOD, you get a 3rd lane in each direction for turn lanes at intersections.

6 lane avenues would add a more useful element to cities, instead of a largely inflexible highway.

You probably have the NAM installed with one too many files.  Read the README.TXT file that came with the latest version of the NAM...it will show you which file it is.  The NAM comes with a UK Right-to-Left Hand Driving Switch file...makes the roads into the UK version.

Making a network tile with three lanes in one direction would be easy. However, incorperating it into the game would require replacing an existing network type, since no new network types can be added. Alternativelly, the tiles could count as avenue (so you could have both 4-lane and 6-lane avenues), but both types would have exactly the same speeds and capacites. I believe that defeats the purpose, no?

There are no technical features to make roads broader than one tile easy to realize. It is only possible to create them by adding lots of paths to be used to change the lanes over the tile-end.

That needs much performance and won't be very usable for slower computers.

Here's what I think the game should have involving boulevards and other related stuff:

-Two AND three lane boulevards and avenues with an option of a median or the two yellow lines, and options for the pavement type/color (gray, black, etc.)
-Boulevards that are divided by a median, with one or two lanes on either side but none of those white lines, in my city, thats what some of the nicer neighborhoods have

Yeah, most of the big roads in Miami are 6 lane avenues and not 4.

lol, my town has bigger then 4 lanes in avenues.

I remember seeing like extra highway lanes in some CJ, and somone asked and he said it was a mod, Is there anyway you could do that with extra lanes?

I think this would be interesting, but not practical. I mean, who would want to see a six lane boulevard in there city? It would take up way too much space. Nice idea though.

If it was functional, then i would love to have it, most my avenues are jammed, an extra lane would on ea side would help

I've been thinking about this for a long time now! Finally I see someone made a thread for it. I thought it isn't a bad idea at all, and is actually realistic. Many cities in the US have 6 lane boulevards, and not just a straight highway with exit ramps. It would be great if someone was to make it for the people that like the idea...

I love the 6 lane avenue idea and is on the top of my list for things to add SimCity 4. I have posted in one of the NAM threads my drawings of 6 lane avenue puzzle pieces. (look under my posts in my profile to find it) It would definitely have to be 3 tiles width with footpath on each side, and a big median. Just take examples such as Maroondah Highway, Springvale Road and Burwood Highway in Melbourne, Australia. (You should be able to find something about those roads on google with an aussie search) Melbourne loves its 6 lane avenues (or highways as we call them. We call american highways freeways)

Depends. Here in Sydney, we call them Freeways, Motorways, Expressways. And this is in spite of the fact that we have less of them than you do!

3 Tiles width is a no-no. It makes doing intersections a nightmare (which is why even Maxis didn't venture there).

Aside from that, 6-lane avenues would be a good idea. Personally I like the idea of 3 lane one-ways more, but that's more because we have a few of those in Sydney's CBD than anything (and if they had narrow lanes I wouldn't complain, they're quite narrow here..

This would certainly be nice, but to do cool things with access roads might require an inordinate amount of work.

A small section of Whitehorse Rd (aka Maroondah Hwy), through Mitcham . . .

That was exact thing I was trying to explain with. Thanks for the pic. I can tell it was taken from the footbridge. Did u take it? You can tell with the pic that Maroondah Highway (well the part that goes thru whitehorse council anyway) is all decorated with no ugly powerlines, fancy street lights and all street signs and traffic lights painted green which all looks really nice. I thought I would show exactly what should happen with the 3 tiles (@cammo: 3x1 puzzle pieces shouldn't be that hard to place if they were made. There would be special median break pieces) Burwood Highway:
Melbourne5.jpg
The lanes at the very front are for the traffic lights where 4 straight ahead lanes are at the intersection and it gets reduced back to 3 just after the intersection. There is a huge median in the middle. People that know this area well will have realised that this looks totally different now with the #75 Tram line being extended from Kmart to Vermont South.

Here's probably the best and most beautiful boulevard in the world. Avenida 9 De Julio (Avenue 9th July) In Buenos Aires Argentina, sometimes called The Paris of South America.

Uhh, Yea...

How hard would this mod be to do for a exp modder? Is it unrealistic for them?

Another question if it was ever done would you have to add one by one like GLR?

im totally up for this. 6 lanes avenues and/or boulevards are VERY common here in Florida, so when i play the game, the 2 lane ones seem kinda... blah.
