City too big???

I have finally been able to grow a large city, with about 90,000 sims in it. Unfortunately for me, whenever I play that city, the game crashes, and I have to start my development over again. And it started when I had over 80,000 sims. Any tips to make it stop? I have 494 MB in my plugin folder, so I think I don't have too much.

I've got 4gb of ram but it still runs slow but I am running it on a mac so there may be a difference. And the lag usually happens at about 250k.

I doubt it, again... I was running sc4 with XP on a 11 gig hard drive with 200mb left on it.. same deal. Maybe it is a conflict with one of your plugins.. What kind of stuff do you have in there?

here's the list: x2 radius for schools and hospitals, an airport pack that i don't use, some things from BSC, Buddybud, CSX, Jeronij, MUROS PIEDRA, SFBT, Simgoober, and WalkingSnake, some airplanes, Soundwalls, diagonal fix, sunken highway walls, a simoleon mod, crosswalk reduction, different skin for powerlines, a plaza set, parking lots and garages, opera house fix (i don't have one in my city), no palms, NAM, RHW, SAM, Minor League Stadiums, Hidden arrows, hole diggers, flag river stadium, Italia terrain with trees, some new cars, and the bridge height mod. I think that covers all of it.

From the looks of it none of those would seem to cause problems, but you never know! What you can try first, is to split your plugins in half, and test each half so you don't have to sort through as many

A lot of CTD are cased by faulty, or conflicting custom content, I would start there. Use a new region to do the testing, add the custom content a little at a time.

When I had a bad pc, with only 512 MB ram (vid card = 64MB) I even could play the game with 250,000 people so.

yuo probably don't have enough ram. you should get at least one more gb. I've seen 1 gb ddr2 memory for like $15 at tigerdirect.com.

I've got a gig of RAM, and a processor that's nowhere near as powerful as yours. I have no problem with cities over a million inhabitants. It slows down. But it loads nonetheless. I'd assume there is a problem with one of your mods. Try reinstalling the game and checking through each mod. But you don't have to if you don't want to...

I believe I have found the problem. If you look near the edge, you will see a gap with the wall:

    bug

well, whenever I try to put a wall there, the game crashes. I assume there is some bug there, but I'm not worrying about it, I'll just avoid it. Thank you all for your help, and if I have anymore problems, I know who to ask!!!

P.S. I'm not gonna buy extra ram. I won't play if I need to, so I'm good about not spending money right now!

Curious ... I lost a city that I'd been working hard on and looking at the crash logs, I had 2 GB+ of free RAM. I have 4 GB of RAM in my PC. Running this on a q6600 overclocked to 3.6 GHz (from 2,4 GHz). Passed the overclock stability test so it isn't that for sure. Thinking about getting a new video card.

Could cities be lost due to corruption of data?

I think you need more RAM. Right now i have a new PC, but before when i was having 512 Mb RAM it was pain in the a**. The was running very slow and laggy.

10GB of RAM? That's unusual, for as far as I know the available memory is 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and so-forth. If you have a set-up like 8GB - 2GB or 4GB - 4GB - 2GB you might want to change it. Your memory should always be equally divided, otherwise you get a unstable system. It's better to have less than more in this case.
